Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2013 Author Posted 1 January, 2013 FULL TIME WBA 1 Fulham 2 Good result for Fulham - takes them up to 12th on 24 points
Crazy Diamond Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Fulham winning away is a sign of the apocalypse.
Legod Third Coming Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Fulham winning away is a sign of the apocalypse. More a sign that there is precious little quality in this Division. Had we only started with Shaw at left back, with a Premiership standard keeper and a couple of half decent centre backs in the squad, we might be in a European spot right now...
Crazy Diamond Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 More a sign that there is precious little quality in this Division. Not sure I agree with that. I was more focusing on Fulham's terrible away record over recent years. Even under Roy Hodgson they barely won away from home.

Had we only started with Shaw at left back, with a Premiership standard keeper and a couple of half decent centre backs in the squad, we might be in a European spot right now... Agreed.
Lighthouse Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 I'd take wins for Swansea, Spuds, Norwich and Utd. That Fulham win is a bummer.

Agree I believe this to be a pretty poor league this year
Saint Garrett Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 It's stronger this year than it has been the last few IMO
Thedelldays Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 It's stronger this year than it has been the last few IMO No way IMO Never seen the top teams drop points and goals like they have. The art of defending has gone. Struggling in Europe this year Man U have been average by their standards and clear at the top Just my opinion. I know People will say otherwise as to back up the against all odds job, Adkins is doing
Saint Garrett Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Think the bottom half is better but the top is worse
DG Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 So West Ham and Reading winning, Villa losing, meh (early days).
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 The thing about this season is there aren't really any clubs underperforming due to bad managers, a la Keen, Megson, McLeish. Except maybe Man City. Makes it tougher for us
Thedelldays Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Think the bottom half is better but the top is worse When you see QPR and reading as bad as they are. It really isn't. And they are both in touching distance of us. Villa are just horrible and Newcastle are not much better. Chelsea are my dark horses. Despite some beliefs here, rafa is a bloody good manager. I think they will put a charge in for the title as united are not good enough defensively to win 10 on the bounce. When cleverley is their new Paul scholes. You know they are not as good
Thedelldays Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 So West Ham and Reading winning, Villa losing, meh (early days). Reading have turned a corner IMO And have to play all of us down there at their place yet

Except maybe Man City. Makes it tougher for us I think you could put Hughes in that bracket and Redknapp is carrying on with his work so far. McDermott should be doing better with that Reading squad too, although it is possibly the weakest in the league.
Lighthouse Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Reading have turned a corner IMO And have to play all of us down there at their place yet Because they beat West Ham 1-0 at home? I don't buy that.

McDermott should be doing better with that Reading squad too, although it is possibly the weakest in the league. Reading have almost gone backwards from last season. They're playing exactly the same, hit and hope, with less of the quality that they showed in their good run last season. McDermott can't be that bad a manager, if perhaps letting himself down by refusing to adapt his team's style, so I'm not sure what any better a manager could do with that Reading team. It's easily the worst in the division.
Thedelldays Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Because they beat West Ham 1-0 at home? I don't buy that. They should have got a point at city. If Barry scored that Goal against us I would be utterly livid They will probably get beat today. But I think they will pick up a little
DG Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Reading's January/February fixtures are a lot kinder than ours (bar Chelsea), they will overtake us.
DG Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 (edited) Swindon 4 - 0 Skates They are currently 23rd Edited 1 January, 2013 by DG Goal glut
VectisSaint Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 I see Stoke successfully appealed Nzonzi's red card. Didn't see anything on the sports news but he was cleared to play today. Seems to be rather a lot of teams successfully appealing reds lately. Always seems a bit wrong to me for the team who had the man sent off wrongly, on the other hand Stoke were definitely better when they went down to 10 men so maybe we should be aggrieved that he was given his marching orders.
VectisSaint Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Swindon 4 - 0 Skates They are currently 23rd I was in Swindon earlier, if only I had known that the mighty Skates were in town (I would have avoided the place completely).

Crazy Diamond Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 James Collins of Swindon Town - if you see him, buy him a drink.
Thedelldays Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Pompey are going to finish bottom at this rate. Without a -10 penalty Lololololololol
DG Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 (edited) City 1 - 0 Stoke Wigan 0 - 2 Man United Swansea 1 - 1 Villa Swindon 5 - 0 Skates (puts any Arsenal cricket score into perspective) Edited 1 January, 2013 by DG

I'm sure I read he's available as there wasn't time to hear his appeal due to there not being a clear 2 working days between sats game and today. His appeal is tomorrow I think, no doubt it will get over turned though. Seemed to me that he was sent off more for the intent to stamp rather than the actual connection or lack of!

On the BBC: "Steven Nzonzi is available after Stoke appealed against his red card for a challenge on Southampton's Jack Cork."
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2013 Author Posted 1 January, 2013 Blackburn 1 Forest 0 Sack McLeish?
hypochondriac Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 I see Butland made another mistake that led to a goal today. I really really hope we don't sign him and pin our hopes on him to keep us up.
Lighthouse Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 On the BBC: "Steven Nzonzi is available after Stoke appealed against his red card for a challenge on Southampton's Jack Cork." That just means he hasn't been suspended yet, pending a hearing. Doesn't mean they have been succesful.
Red Alert Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 For me i want to see Villa, Wigan, QPR and Reading lose every single week. Every single goal scored by any team they are playing gets celebrated by me at the moment.
adrian lord Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Tend to agree the overall Premier League quality is down this year, but the flipside is there have been no end of craking games the first half of the season. That Fulham win is a bit of a ****ter.
tajjuk Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Sounds like Villa and Reading are getting battered, Spurs have put the second away so we just need Swansea to put their chances away. Losses all round for Wigan, Villa and Reading is important and might give our players a boost.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2013 Author Posted 1 January, 2013 I see Butland made another mistake that led to a goal today. I really really hope we don't sign him and pin our hopes on him to keep us up. Which mistake free GK would you like us to sign?
VectisSaint Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 That just means he hasn't been suspended yet, pending a hearing. Doesn't mean they have been succesful. Oh, true could be I suppose. I actually heard it on 5Live initially where I thought they said it had been successfully appealed, but looks like I heard it wrong. Stoke site says they have lodged appeal.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2013 Author Posted 1 January, 2013 Ipswich 0 Brighton 3 scored by Bridge
MOSaint Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Swansea are having all the possession against Villa, yet don't look threatening at all.
