Merson saying qpr bigger than saints

I don't know why people get their knickers in a twist over playing "my clubs bigger than your club". As for attracting players 99% of the time it'll be down to the agent to push the player to accept the "best" deal. There's absolutely no doubt which of the two clubs agents will be recommending, throw into the mix Mr Redknapp, who like it or not players want to play for, a west London location to keep the mrs happy, and its probably true they'll be more attractive than us to the vast majority of players.

You are a bit thick if you don't realise London has a bigger pull than Southampton.

It might be argued in a broad sweeping generalisation, but not everybody wants to live in a big city like that. In any event, it isn't as if it is that far away either if anybody wanted to visit there at any time. Come the weekend and half of London heads down the M3 in this direction for some reason and one wonders how they can possibly bear to leave such a paradise.

footballers who go to london do so because they can blend in...they can go shopping and get bothered by people very little

that does not happen when people are staring at you at west quay

So conversely we ought to be more attractive to those who like to be recognised by the masses of their adoring fans then? It hadn't occurred to me that footballers were such shrinking violets, playing in front of tens of thousands and on television around the World viewed by millions.

They all said we'd need a defender and Merson said the top class ones would prefer to play for harry and go to qpr. 17k gates or over 30k gates?

For me saints are a bigger club than qpr aside from the fact we have seven more points.

"top class " He obvioulsly isn't talking about quality of their Academy, Players, Creditabilty or " Credit rating" . Nor ground facilities or attendances....something about ego, maybe?

QPR are chucking more money than sense at player wages, so they'll naturally be a more attractive option for a lot of players. That they're even being mentioned in the same breath as Frank Lampard just highlights the level of their overspending.

Well I don't know. Lampard is Harry's nephew and may be looking further forward than his next paycheck. Something like succeeding Harry as manager or similiar?

Its possible I suppose, but I'd very much doubt it. Lampard is a clever man and well educated; he's also completely loaded and won't need to continue in employment in football just to make ends meet. It's unlikely he's got any coaching badges at the moment. I'd suggest a career in the media may be his first step, unless he truly has a desire to be a football manager (can't see him wanting to just be a coach or assistant to be fair). He'd have plenty of offers from Sky and the BBC, surely; and that's a much easier gig than the demands of footy.

Before 'Arry went to QPR I'd have suggested that Lampard wouldn't ever play for any other club than Chelsea. With Redknapp there its possible. And if Juinor Hoilett can reportedly attract £60K a week wages, I'd suggest there's enough flexibility to allow them to get close to Lampard's financial demands. Maybe....

Nah Lampard's been touted at Monaco as well, long before QPR. Won't go there of course but it keeps the journalists busy.

It's probably fair to say that Lampard is " at the peak of his career " ( however, we interpret that) ...and so one of the foreign clubs will pay him silly money to play for a year or two......but after that I suppose he will be a soccer millionaire like his Uncle 'arry, and it depends just how much he " loves the game " and wants to get managers' ulcers.

ok...no matter what you say.if everything was equal, they would be a bigger draw due to their west london location

much like why fulham always sign decent players

'arry gave his son one last big payday when he signed the cripple for us, I expect him to give his nephew a big payday at the expense of Mr Fernandes who obviously has more money than sense (or 'Arry wouldn't be there)

TBF - I can't fault Jamie Redknapp's efforts for us.

Danny Mills just said we're a poor side.

Shall we send him a turd in the post?

What is that based on? I think we've got more than the 3 in the bottom 3 at the mo. But I guess it's predictably all about QPR for the media now, so as they all want - everyone stand back and allow QPR and Harry to wander to safety.

I would suggest its fair to say 95% of millionaire young men in thier 20s or early thirties would much rather live in London than Southampton. Not everyone has the mindset of a pompous, narrow minded old man Les.

Was listening to talk sport this morning. Alan Brazil was asked if Saints will stay up this season. His response was something like "I hope they stay up because I like Southampton. They have a new stadium and Lawrie McMenemy used to be there didn't he? The problem for them is that they have no money so it will be difficult"

He's always been a bit silly, but it never ceases to amaze me at how ignorant people still are to our current situation. I'm not asking the media to be experts on every single aspect of the club, but for christ sake it doesn't take much research to work out that we're no longer in administration, we've broken our transfer record twice in one season, are spending £15m on a training ground, and £30m+ on players. That's open knowledge, and it's just lazy comments by people in the media.

It's not just him either, heard other pundits saying it'll be difficult for us - compared to QPR!!!! - because we don't have the finance.

Ha ha, I listened to that and turned it off, it was utterly cringeworthy! Brazil is such a p*ssed up ignorant old lush, and with the braindead Irani next to him its often car-crash listening.

Let's be realistic, most 'experts' are absolutel helmets. Most are do shi*te they make Steve Claridge look knowledgable and interesting. For every decent one there are 10 crap ones. So I don't know why anyone cares or gets worked up about what any of them say.

I don't really care, just find it amusing and a little bewildering that these people are paid to soley talk about football and the majority seem to make very little effort into any form of research or pride in their profession. The ignorance is the same for most clubs outside of the top 5 or 6.

Alan Brazil is either still drunk or massively hungover when presenting, so often makes little sense. My favourite one from him was concerning John Thaw's death:

Alan Brazil: "I was sad to hear yesterday about the death of Inspector Morse, TV's John Shaw."

Mike Parry: "John Thaw, Alan."

Alan Brazil: "Do you know, I've been doing that all morning. John, if you're listening, sorry mate."
