Merson saying qpr bigger than saints

They all said we'd need a defender and Merson said the top class ones would prefer to play for harry and go to qpr. 17k gates or over 30k gates? For me saints are a bigger club than qpr aside from the fact we have seven more points.

Just seen that! They haven't got the slightest clue about Saints have they? "Lack of funds, need a top top centre back etc." Surprised how much Stelling was sticking up for us after his public rant about Saints and Cortese some time back!

Don't mention the fact we battered Stoke for 60 minutes the other day, Merse said Lambert would be lucky to get 10 this year and proudly sits on 8 after half a season - that shut him up.

"Lescott wouldn't go to Southampton..." Not saying we're bigger than Villa and QPR but why would he go to QPR who are certainties for relegation (according to Merse) and then say "I'd go to QPR, great manager, great stadium etc"

Knobhead.

No-one wins in the 'my club is bigger' bullsh1t.

But you'd think players would see more chance of staying up with saints. Then again, more far money with QPR and a more famous manager plus living in London. All that's lead them to so far is a huge squad of overpaid players that don't give 2 sh1ts about what happens to their club. Pretty much all the premier league experience are forum geniuses were desperate for too.

Not really when Harry has been constantly saying they are going to cut wage bill.

I would say we are considerably bigger than qpr.

Hilarious listening to Merson saying a player would rather go to QPR because they have a nicer stadium... They'll go to QPR only because the money would be much better.

If we were in a battle with Villa for a player's signature there is no chance we would lose out due to finances. Have they not noticed what's been going on at Villa over the last 18 months?! They're having to drastically cut the wage bill after letting O'Neill run riot.

But McInally was the best, questioning why good defenders would come to us. Well why did Gaston sign? Because the wages in England are significantly higher than the wages in Italy, with the exception of a couple of top clubs there.

That's why there could be legs in the Astori rumour

What is he on, some of these so called experts or pundits are clueless, all it would take is five minutes on the web to get the real facts, I would not call us a big club, but without doubt bigger than Q.P.R.

He didn't actually say QPR were a bigger club then ? Glad we've cleared that up.

What he should have said is you're the biggest cretin of all time.

Gosh, what a well thought out argument. So you can point to the bit where he said QPR were bigger than Saints then ? Or not, seeing as according to you he only said they'd "prefer to play for Harry" ?

He said players would rather play for QPR because of Loftus Road. One of the most ridiculous comments he has come out with, and that's saying something.

There are some legitimate reasons for preferring to play for QPR - notably wages, west london location and good old 'arry.

Loftus Road is not one of them

I agree with that, he's spouting gash if he's said anything about the stadium or size of the club - but it wasn't in the OP, which only mentioned "preferring to play for Harry".

Well, he knows that players like to get a free jacket...

They have a higher profile manager and will pay far higher wages than us. Do you think players really give a stuff how many the ground holds when they decide on a club? Half the games they play are away.

This. There are enough mercenary footballers willing to go to QPR over Saints even despite the fact they are almost certainly going down. We struggle to attract very good players, have done for yonks. If you throw cash around like QPR you don't struggle to attract top players but they might not give a damn about playing for you.

What did Stelling say ?

Stelling was just trying, over the din, the explain that potentially, any new player would be playing in front of 30,000 a week, great setup, and trying to correct them by saying they (we) do have cash to spend whereas the likes of Merson, McInally were saying they'd rather join QPR if they had the choice between the teams.

McInally was arguing that we won't ever attract anyone of significance (er, Ramirez?) because we won't be in Europe etc... Stelling was trying to explain we've only just been promoted and I think, was trying to say there is potential. One of them, not sure whether it was Merson or McInally said something sarcastically about "Jeff, I know it's your second favourite club" or something along those lines...

It was just ill-informed dross from McInally but as Jeff's got his finger on the pulse a bit more being a local, he was trying to correct them.. but they weren't really having any of it. Nae mind.

I suppose you cant argue with such luminaries as Mers and Macinally, the only one from the three wise monkeys missing is Lawro

They have a vague point though, if its down to wages QPR will chuck the kitchen sink at players, watch them get relegated and broke as Fernandes chucks his toys out of the pram.

Harry has made a big mistake going there, bet he wished he never picked up the phone

It's all right though - it'll be airbrushed from his CV and whenever it does get mentioned, he'll say how he was down to the bare bones, players poor attitude, they were already relegated practically, wasn't his fault in general etc

Can't wait to welcome Saggy down here

I've heard that our 'arry has lost a few bob recently and needed to work so took the job. He doesn't look very enamoured with it though does he?

As for them being bigger than us - never in a million years!

Any player that chooses to play for QPR over us is obviously not doing it for footballing reasons so why the hell would we want any player like that, anyway QPR have to sell before they buy as their wage bill is through the roof and Harry knows it,his biggest challenge is not getting the players he wants but getting rid of the lazy mercenaries who are just going to sit out their contracts and rake in their inflated wages......... Good luck with that arry.

Didn't think there was much said that was wrong if I'm honest.

Are QPR bigger than us? There's not a lot in it, is there?

Would Joleon Lescott come to us? Don't think so. Would he go to QPR? They do seem capable of signing players on stupid wages, Granero and Bosingwa etc. The only thing I would take exception to is the whole 'Loftus Road is a great place to play' - so what? 50% of the games they play won't even be at Loftus Road.

Are we in trouble unless we get a defender? Probably, as whilst Yoshida has improved, if he gets injured, what happens? Can we afford a really good defender? Possibly. Would a top defender want to come to a club that could be in the Championship in six months time? It's difficult.

McInally was indeed ill-informed, as Crab Lungs said. He clearly hasn't seen much of us since the early part of the season when we were in the headlines for the City and United games. We've improved a lot, and he hasn't seen it.

I don't quite understand the reaction to it all on here - Merson even said he was wrong about Lambert.

still they've got a couple that they can sell without too many problems. Granero and Taraabt are highly coveted in Italy and Spain apparently, places where work rate is not the be all and end all of football.

Bosingwa is on £65k a week

Holy Christ

Amazing work by his agent. QPR thing they've pulled off a coup by signing him, in reality he showed a long time ago at Chelsea that he's not suited to this league and isn't really all that good. Agent convinces them if they pay top dollar he'll sign for them when I bet there was next to no one queuing up for his signature.

Never really rated Mark Hughes as that good a manager - his judgement of players is a bit off too. This will be the one people remember,or maybe Jo at Man City, rather than say Roque Santa Cruz at Blackburn.

Not this "big - bigger" name calling again.

There are the top 5 or 6 clubs, then 30-40 popular clubs, then the rest are the little clubs. We are securely in the middle group, and the enitre "big" argument revolves around clubs fans, personnel and ex-personnel from this group, and is nothing more than handbags at ten paces, imo. The little clubs fans are just grateful to survive and have matches to go to and dont fixate themselves with this petty meaningless discussion

I agree, but are these the players they want to sell?.......I'm guessing there will be a long list of over paid players they would love to unload but are not coveted by other clubs

McInally was the one that annoyed me more.

Though I do think we are a fair-sized larger than QPR tbf.

Okay, so how? Neither of us have many trophies and have probably spent around about the same amount of time in the top flight. We might edge it on European competitions but it's not as if we've ever done much there.

That's if you want to measure it on those terms. As has been said, no one really wins when you try and compare club sizes.
