Well. First time in 4 years I'm stuck in Dubai instead of The Dolls House in Soi Cowboy with FMDP :?

2 local bars available at 40 quid entry. Everything else STARTS at 150 quid a head for "International Buffet and a glass of Bubbles" - ie cheap Aussie fizz and overcooked food.

MOST places are charging 300 quid a HEAD. That will give you the INternational Buffet, a choice of bottled Heineken or Budweiser and Montes Argentinia Cab Sav or Chardonnay all night long.

We HAD planned on staying in and walking down to watch the fireworks, but some friends who run a Tourist Business have a 35ft Catamaran that they are mooring in the Palm to watch the Atlantis Fireworks and invited us. Only second NYE in 19 years that I will spend with some friends. Normally everyone I know is out of town.

How is it in Blighty?

How much is your local charging for the night or have you found something special/local to go to?

(Oh and Bearsy? Yes they DID plan to fill the boat with Bikini clad babes but it is REALLY cold (for here) at the moment (bloody Iranians) which is why we got invited I guess....

Last year a Russkie went to the Carvalli club (no never been there) at the Armani Hotel (yes, been there "liberated" a nice set of cutlery) He spent 250k POUNDs on Crystal Champers.

I spent 15 quid on 4 bottles of Aus Fizz at Phillipine Saint's fav hole in the wall today

As it is the most over priced and over rated night of the year I'll be staying in with a bottle of wine and watching Jools Holland and other stuff. Ill leave paying to get into pubs and double priced drinks and taxis to all the helmets who want to have the compulsory crazy time.

Agree with Turkish, no effing way I'm paying to get in a pub to buy overpriced watered down crap and be surrounded by under age knobheads. Staying in with the Mrs, having a few quiet drinks, planning a few things for the coming year, and watching the fireworks on tv, and kissing goodbye to a pretty effing horrific year.

The wife and I don't do New Years Eve, Christmas Eve was always my favourite of the two nights out when younger. These days we tend to do a meal out, and then go home to cosy up on the sofa in front of the TV. Thankfully I'm usually working it, and we get paid extra to work through the night. I am off this year though, but am just doing the meal thing.

Went to London to stand on the steps of Westminster Bridge for the Millenium. Big mistake. Had the odd NYE in clubs too, they massively overcharge for entry and the night is no better than normal, and in addition it's more packed with idiots. The best solution IMO is a house party with friends.

Normally a night out in Winchester with friends, this time a house party with the same friends. Less money spent, same great company, more chance of hearing each other speak.

Most of my mates are coupled up and doing their own thing this year, so I was pleased when a mate who's just back from Dubai for a couple of weeks said he's up for doing something decent this year rather than a local pub or a house party with all the same old faces. At 25 and single, I want something more fun than that. We're after good music, plenty of drinking, and hopefully plenty of single women.

Train to London tomorrow lunchtime, few beers around town, pre-party at my mate's brother's place in Bethnal Green, then off to Cafe 1001 on Brick Lane which doesn't stop till Tuesday lunchtime. I hope to get lucky and leave well before that, if not then I'll just see how long I last before getting the train back, hopefully in time to get to SMS.

Shock horror! I find myself agreeing with Turkish *gulp*

Totally with you (and him). Way back before I came here, NYE was THE best night of the year. It was spent with real friends in our local pub. When I was much younger we used to have a Village "Do" in the Village Hall.

Since coming to bling city it has without a doubt been horrid. Imagine Turkish's nightmare scenario but then add 8 quid a pint and ALL your mates have left town or have to take their missus out to a 500 quid gala dinner.....

Hate it. This year we haven't been able to get out of Sin City due to FMDP's company having to move their showroom over these next 3 days BOO! But the best fun I (or my Kids) have had were in the Gogo bars in BKK. We could use up airmiles and book in August so the flights cost 50 quid and then 30 quid a night for a hotel. Party & shop for 4 days and STILL save money on a sh1t night out here.

Our "organised" events are Zane Lowe, Roger Sanchez & Zane Lowe with Rita Orr & Ellie Goulding - a 12 hour event 40 quid a ticket so a bargain on Brit pub price (Alternate is Snoop Dog Gorrilaz Sound System & a Faithless DJ Set for 80 quid(yuk). BUT at each event it costs 8 quid for a 330ml can of Heineken or 200 quid for a twin pack of Absolute & mixers..... plus the joy of 8,000 drunk Holidaymaker Brits on a beach with hour long queues to get away afterwards... enuff said.

Only day of the year I truly wish I was back home with the lads, listening to The Zucchinis play in some pub somewhere around the South.

Maybe tomorrow will be different some good friends and something unusual... Hope so

Newquay with the Missis and another couple who are mates

What an odd sentence. Why have you added "who are mates" at the end? Of ourselves they're mates, why else would be spending the night with them? It's almost like you've overcompensated so people don't think you're a swinger.

Are you a swinger?

Down in Lisbon's waterfront after dinner with my friends from the days in high school/6th form.

Been here since the 23rd and grabbing every possible beam of sunlight to take back for the next 3 months.

I was in Lisbon for 2001 NY. Really good night out. We were down on Alcantara Mar by the bridge. Great fireworks and nice bars along there.

Might pop south to a 'locals' casino for drinks and fireworks if I can be arsed.

Ill be at the Timeball tower down by the beach. The same Timeball tower that everyone in the world used to set their clocks. Deal Maritime Time predates gmt fact.

New years Eve is strange in the Philippines as there is more food cooked than could possibly be eaten by the whole country, which starts to be eaten at 6:00pm and goes on until midnight. At which time it appears the complete gunpowder supply for Asia goes up in the air. But there is very little alcohol drunk as flips all to busy eating so up to us Ex Pats to keep the coffers of San Miguel full.

Me and the mrs are going to be seeing the new year in with a couple who I met on the Internet, in Newquay. I'm hoping that he's not shy when it come to touching tips as its all part of the fun.

Agree! Going out with the in-laws for a curry, then back to watch TV and drink more wines!

Would have loved to have spent NYE in Dubai this year but my plans to move out there haven't materialised yet. Instead it's a quietish night at a friends house, not drinking because I'm on call for work at 5am tomorrow. :(

I'm not really massive on NYE although it is as good excuse as any to have a few cheerful drinks with friends and be optimistic for the new year. Even if it is just a sequencial number assigned to some random point on the Earths orbit of the Sun.

Finally getting on a bit then with those plans ;) Used to hate it when I was little and was forced to watch Jools Holland every year at midnight.

As for an answer to the OP. Off to a party in a little bit.

Mr TF has pleurisy / diptheria / pneumonia - oh hang on........ no he's got a sore throat.

Don't do the NYE stuff at all but it would be nice to sit here without listening to the groaning and spluttering.

I'm not a good nurse :(

This, I had a sore throat Thursday, which led to a fever and cough and now have a full blown cold.

Haven't stopped sneezing for two days now. So NYE, I shall be asleep hopefully.

Joel's Holland came into my business the other day, he was not laugh a minute but very restrained. He didn't buy anything but he was very complimentary about the stock.....I'd have preferred him being rude and bought something though. Never mind he said he would come back in again

Count me in the man plague* list. Will be toasting the new year with the smallest quantity of whisky and hope its not going to give me a stinking headache.

(* actually I have gentleman plague which is the more polite version of man plague in that I end up trying to sleep on the sofa rather than forcing the wife out of bed with the noise).

I was going to say that he is trying to pretend it's only a sore throat to stop you worrying as he really does have pleurisy / diptheria / pneumonia.

Then I remembered he is a skate so he is obviously lying and probably doesn't even have a sore throat :lol:

I'm in Southampton for the match tomorrow and finally managed to sort a ticket out this afternoon. Off out shortly to a good local boozer with a friend: the sort of pub where they don't have or need bouncers on the door... No names, no pack drill...

No, but as she is the only person in the house not unwell its not in my best interest to reduce her ability to do absolutely everything during the day when she is up by keeping her awake.

First time in ages a quiet night in, we normally go round friends (and vice versa) and getting Chinese Steves culinary delights in. Mrs JBS just changed jobs to sort out dot.com in our local evil empire so was up at work at 4am sorting out all those loverly internet orders so she will probably not make Midnight. Eldest Daughter is just off down the pub when her mate extracts a digit: great being young.

The Champagne was corked. Can Cahmpagne be corked? Tasted like it. So bring on the wine! (Cheap screw cap stuff so should be fine.)

Take it back to whence you purchased it from, if it's a Supermarket throw your toys out of the pram: they will kiss your feet.

Nah it was a wedding present. Nearly seven months afterwards, I feel it has soured the memory of the whole event. I think I'll beat the generous guests to death with the bottle.

A ideo cilp filmed inside my head this morning. Ouch

Well, actually this was pretty cool. Burj Al Arab just up the road had an awesome display as well. It wasn't Sydney Harbour.

BUT tbh
