Will Shaw leave in January?

I'm fairly confident that Roy Hodgson will select the players for the national team based on their abilities, rather than for which club they play. Besides, he is likely to get more exposure playing for our first team than he would initially playing for Arsenal's reserves, or warming their bench.

So good enough to play for England and go to Rio if he stays with the super duper Saints but nothing more than a bench warming stiff if he goes to evil Arsenal?

Pure fantasy. He's already a Premier League full back. He would get loads of game time at Arsenal. And be on loads more money. And likely to play Champions League football. And play for one of the biggest clubs in Britain.

Would be a great move for him. People need to stop pretending it isn't.

Personally I think he's staying until the summer because we've got him contracted and Don Wonga will be stubborn as hell, and I think we'll do a little deal with Luke that he helps us this season and goes in the summer.

He only needs to look at how Theo and AOC ruined their careers by going to Arsenal to realise he didn't want to make the same mistake.

At the end of the day, no matter if we're in the PL or not, if a top club really want one of our players then they will go eventually.

Everton are a pretty decent side at this level, but even they struggle to keep hold of their good young players.

I don't think he's going anywhere imminently, as he'd be a completely misguided fool to do so, but he will do in the near future if he keeps progressing as he is. There's not a lot we can do about that.

The 50% of young players in the first time is a good idea, but realistically only the top clubs will get success from that method - as they can keep hold of their young quality players.

They key is to get a fair price. The fact all those top teams want him clearly shows how highly rated he is.

With some of the ludicrous prices very average English players move for the conversation with Arsenal goes like this:

'You want Shaw? Ok, no discussion until the number is 20m.'

No pressure to sell what is clearly an England left back of the future so get every penny we can for him....in the summer.

I don't think he will go this window, but unless we finish strong and end up in a decent position in the Prem, I can see him leaving in the summer. If we do end up in a reasonable position it will be much easier to tempt him to stay, as at least we're showing signs of progress and achieving our ambition.

Didn`t really pan out like this for AOC did it. Not too much reserve action or bench warming.

It took quite a while for Walcott to get going with them though, didn't it? In fact he was playing for the national team before he got much match time for Arsenal. Bale got off to a slow start at Tottenham too. But my main point was that his chances of playing for England wouldn't be harmed if he stayed with us, or necessarily improved if he went to Arsenal. If he is deemed to be better than other available players at left back, he will be selected regardless. And I stand by my opinion that he will get more first team football with us, at least initially, because Arsenal will be better able to attract and buy top defenders as cover for that position.

I don't see anybody disputing whether a move to the Arse would be great for him and his future. All I see, is opinions as to whether the time is right at the moment and incredulity at the figure of just £5 million being mentioned. But as you've suggested, Cortese isn't going to let him go without squeezing Arsenal for mega-bucks, as we don't need or want to sell him.

At the end of the day, if he wants to go then we'll have to sell him. Personally, I don't think he'll go for a couple of years, when he's in the England team. We certainly need to keep him here for the remainder of the season - he's the main reason why the defence has improved significantly. I don't think most people realise how good he actually is - but of course Wenger does. He's a joy to watch, simply brilliant.

I honestly hadn't expected him to be this good, for a lad his age with such limited experience, he really has been class.

Wow, so in 16months Oxlade has ruined his career. Do you honestly think that.

He left saints, and in one move went from league 1 (3rd tier) to playing champions league football in around 6 months, got in the england team, and is becoming an england regular. Yup, HE HAS RUINED HIS CAREER!!!!

In comparison I offer you Kerian Dyer, Alan smith or Wayne Bridge. All made big money moves, and all went backwards and now play in lower leagues.

I'd advise all fishermen to visit Turkish's Tackle Shop. Supplier of top quality bait since 2006.

Whether you're looking to land a lurker, skim-reader or that prize Johnny come lately - Turkish bait is the stuff to use.
