Will Shaw leave in January?

Poll needed!

And no I don't think he will, it'll all be down to first team places and expectations. Leaving for Arsenal (as mentioned in the "press") would basically mean he becomes their first choice lb and will probably destroy his career very quickly. I would guess he stays because he has the same basic opportunity here but with less pressure to succeed in his place (we chuck Fox back in or someone else and he can progress properly). He will be able to make mistakes with us without ruining his career before he can drink to get over it.

The last news I saw on that front, we were taking out a loan.

I believe it was a loan against future earnings (tv money for next year equivalent to the parachute payments) because in the UK that works as tax avoidance (which isn't illegal and saves us millions of quid). Borrow money against future earning to operate at a level of debt is (strangely) good business practice as it avoids the 35% corporation tax on profit. Oldest trick in the book and something we should not wet our selves over (only when it is against several years worth of tv money/season ticket sales is it bed wetting time).

Either way financially we currently are well within budget/means with little impetus to sell (like the dark days) to balance the books.

No because we need him badly and he won't get in the big five's first team all season, what's the point?

Perhaps someone like Man City could give us 10million upfront in January and we hand him over in May.

Everyones a winner as we then get some good players in to get us out of the relegation zone.

I don't think he will want to leave as he is getting first team football here. He is a great prospect but is still very raw. Personally I felt he was to blame for the first goal today as he chased the ball out to the wing and got left for dead meaning there was a huge gap for the player to run into in our box.

Unlikely, I would say, and if so, only for exceedingly big bucks. And thank God that nobody on this forum would be responsible for the negotiations.

Oh - and we have a declared policy of trying to get to a position where 50% of our team are academy products. Selling Shaw would be a poor indication of the seriousness of that intention.

Thanks - you've said almost exactly what I was going to say. Good post.

Nope.

If he goes it will be a Chamberlain scenario again. Became apparent that Cortese and Adkins sat the lad down and said he could go at the end of the season if we got an acceptable deal.

Agreed Saint-Armstrong.

even if he were to go (most unlikely IMO).....why do the tabloid hacks think it would be for a measly £5 million.

remembering the value of deals for Theo and Alex O-C......that would even buy his boot laces!..

but more than that ..Do they really think we need to rush and pocket that sort of money, anyway?

Yes,I think he would be an idiot not to,when money talks young talented players listen and I imagine AOC has been in his ear about how rich he's become.

I don't agree with it but that the way football is,money comes first I'm afraid.......what would you do?,stay at a club that pays peanuts and will most likely struggle and get relegated or go to a club that will be competing for honours and make you a millionaire?

He may not play as much football but that will give him plenty of time to count his money.

As has been said saints would want stupid money £10m+ up front & £5m+ in add ons just to start negotiations

If the boy wants to go yes AOC may tell him about the mega wages but he should talk to Jake Sinclair about how many seconds of 1st team football Scott has played since big money move from Swansea to city

When we had Bale AOC and Walcott we were not in the prem, if we go down i can see him going in the summer, if we stay up i can see him staying here for a while longer yet, since he has came in we are what 9th/10th in the form table just shows if we can keep him and the others add 2-3 quality players in we are a decent top 10 side and he should stay while he is this young to see where this club can take him, at 20-21 if were not where he wants to be leave then for a nice fee of 15-20mil.

Also for the club selling him could ruin our chances of staying up and if thats the case i hope the club get at 12 million at worse so we can rebuild to come back up.

My Arsenal supporting brother said to me yesterday that they are signing him. And having watched the highlights of Arsenal v Newcastle, I can see why they'd want a left back - Gibbs is ****. His positioning is almost as bad as Fox's.

They also said the same about Oxo for a long time.

We will sell him if Cortese/Adkins wants too and not the other way round.

He can't sign a pro contract until the summer anyway, as far as I know.

so its not in our hands completely at the mo....as pilchards suggests..

there is no doubt agents would be having a 'word'..but for his own good....he needs to stay for at the very least, another 18 months from now (assuming we stay up)

For his own good I think he needs to go

Much better coaching etc at Arsenal

But as a Saints Supporter I hope he stays

has he signed a contract...?

His first contract came into effect when he turned 17 in the summer. It lasts 3 years, so we have plenty of time to sort this out without tribunals. What he can sign at 18 is a full professional contract, like JWP has done, which will give him bigger wages and tie him down for longer. He won't go anywhere in January, but where we are come the end of the season willl be a big factor in what he does next. I reckon he'll stay and sign the big contract if we stay up. Otherwise we'll get lots of money for him.

He would be mad to go, he has only just broken onto the first team at Saints and is playing regularly. Arsenal are also apparently in for Leyton Baines, if they get him then Shaw will be playing second fiddle and will be back to playing reserve team football ala when Theo left!

If he was to leave for better things.... I could almost understand it.

But anyone, anyone, please anyone but F**KING ARSENAL!!!

well, they are better things....sadly

be one in the eye for those who think this team of youth team players will be a reality.....

when can he sign a pro deal and can arsenal sign him before that time..?
