St Chalet Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Would have taken a point before the game, gutted that's all we got at the end of it.
Golac's Iron Gonads Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Can anyone give a reasoned explanation why Adkins took off and attacker for a 5th defender when 3-2 up against 10 men?
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 (edited) I was shocked at the starting line up..thought we were up for a tonking but it worked...we played very very well in the 1st half and deservedly got a 3-1 lead.. they were not good and you cant throw away the chances we had in the 2nd half..biggest culprit was guly by missing an open goal..you really cant do that and they then go and get a goal back that game was there for the taking..and we really had to take it...that is why we will probably go down..more points dropped and against a team that is not a top 6 quality either I would, and many would have said that i/they would have snatched a point before the game..but at HT..we really should have won that....we really did and now back in the bottom 3 with arsenal etc coming up i have been a big Guly critic but from my laptop, he played well..but he totally screwed up his performance for me by missing an open goal...f-ing useless but put in a shift mind Edited 29 December, 2012 by Thedelldays
BotleySaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I'd have taken a point. Always going to be hard to hold onto the lead with Stoke. But we had chances to make it 4-1 which should have been taken.
Saint_clark Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Said after the Sunderland game that two points from these two games was required, but after being 3-1 up that is gutting. Shame Guly didn't put that chance away - not just because it cost us the points, but also because now we'll have a load of knobs ignoring his good performance.
RobM Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Can anyone give a reasoned explanation why Adkins took off and attacker for a 5th defender when 3-2 up against 10 men? If you watched the game it's quite clear - they were on the up, on the attack and we were defending for our lives.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 This result shows just why Stoke are very very tough to stop at home...
Micky Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Given their forced changes, our good first half, their sending off, we threw away two more points.
Dalek2003 Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Pity we did not get 3 points but Villa and Fulham in trouble. Reading get an undeserved win...watch out for QPR ?
dubai_phil Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I'd have taken a point. Always going to be hard to hold onto the lead with Stoke. But we had chances to make it 4-1 which should have been taken. This. Guly's miss arghhgghh Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Dig Dig Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 In hindsight a decent away point but always gutting to lose a lead so late on.
Ohio Saint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 A good draw in the end. Still vastly disappointed......But that is gonna happen when you had the lead. Stoke played well.
Goalie66 Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Gutted by what a strike for their equaliser
Saintandy666 Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Probably a fair result. Obviously disappointed in many ways now, but tbh I would have taken a point away to stoke and I think we have a lot of positives to take from todays game. Such great delivery from the wings by Puncheon and Guly stands out for me, and of course Lambert's few contributions as ever mattering most.
obelisk Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Before the game I'd have taken that but to miss an easy chance for 1-4 and then not hold on despite playing against 10 men for much of the time disappoints.
RobM Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Said after the Sunderland game that two points from these two games was required, but after being 3-1 up that is gutting. Shame Guly didn't put that chance away - not just because it cost us the points, but also because now we'll have a load of knobs ignoring his good performance. Quite. Guly played excellently today, both in attack and defence.
the stain Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 A point is more than I was expecting, so can't complain too much. We always seem to throw games like this away though.
DG Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Would have taken draws away to Fulham and Stoke, its those home games v Norwich/Swansea/Fulham we will be rueing at the end of the season.
B Rabbit Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Even when he has a half decent game...he still f*cks up and misses a wide open gaping hole bigger than the ****ing grand canyon....it cost us the game. We'd have been 4-1 up. 2 points crop...somehow in the bottom 3 with appalling villa above us. Still 2 points from 2 away games isn't bad...it's c*nting up at home to Sunderland that f*cked our march up the table
WealdSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I'd have taken a point before the game, but I feel gutted. To end the year on a positive, boy have we seen some games since we came back into the Prem
Saint Without a Halo Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 one point gained and two lost! we always go deep when leading and cannot play out a lead it happens time and time again!
S-Clarke Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 It was a great effort, but the 2nd half was always going to be a slog if we're honest. We need to win, obviously, but every single person on planet earth would have taken a draw before the start of play. Given the position we were in at points during that game, it's frustrating we didn't hold out - but Stoke bombarded us in the 2nd half and were back to their normal selves, and let's be honest - we can't really compete with that, but we did a damn fine job at trying. The goal to draw it level was a cracking, hold your hands up to that. No stopping those. It's another point, but we're in the bottom 3. Need to get 3 against Arsenal.
Edmonton Saint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Can anyone give a reasoned explanation why Adkins took off and attacker for a 5th defender when 3-2 up against 10 men? Exactly what I was going to post. Should have brought on either Ramirez or Mayuka to try and catch them on the break. Shutting up shop against ten men.. failed miserably.
suewhistle Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 True.. Mind you, during half time I looked at the pre-match thread and I've never seen so much doom and gloom..
Cheam Saint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Would have taken that at the beginning of the day, but you shouldn't lose when opposition are down to 10 men.
Dr. Kucho Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 2 points lost, I am gutted. Thought we played well and have to say that third Stoke goal was class.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Good game for us , but cant help thinking that poor finishing has cost us the 3 points today.
WealdSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 (edited) Funny how games turn. If Guly had put that chance away then we would have been 4-1 up. Game over. Not that I an having a go at Guly. Edited 29 December, 2012 by WealdSaint sp
JoeShmoe Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 More very odd subs today. Adkins needs to get a lot better tactically in that area
Mr X Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 three one up most teams would have won comfortably, would have took a point at the start though but feels like more points lost!
the stain Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 If only Billy Sharp was still with us.....
Ohio Saint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I don't even bother to read posts in orange text any more. Just sayin'
MOSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 A good point, but feels like a defeat. Dire second half, gave away the ball under no physical pressure too often and dropped deep. Davis was woeful second half, won practically nothing he came for.
Dig Dig Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I was shocked at the starting line up..thought we were up for a tonking but it worked...we played very very well in the 1st half and deservedly got a 3-1 lead.. they were not good and you cant throw away the chances we had in the 2nd half..biggest culprit was guly by missing an open goal..you really cant do that and they then go and get a goal back that game was there for the taking..and we really had to take it...that is why we will probably go down..more points dropped and against a team that is not a top 6 quality either I would, and many would have said that i/they would have snatched a point before the game..but at HT..we really should have won that....we really did and now back in the bottom 3 with arsenal etc coming up Not top 6 but unbeaten at home in 17 games. One of the hardest away days in the league for any team. Stop moaning and forecasting doom every 5 seconds and then maybe you might enjoy the season a little more.
redkeith Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 999999 times out of 1,000,000 Jerome puts that shot in the stands. Stoke just kept coming, and 10 men didn't effect them at all. Good set up by NA, unlucky that Guly couldn't hit tthe target and that JRod's cross was too strong for Rickie.
skintsaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Jerome...when the feck has he done anything like that before....point is better than none, but feels like a loss after being 3-1 up...
DT Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Good point all things considered. Cork absolutely magnificent. KD like an old man jumping and trying to get down. Please drop. Think we were a bit mugged over Rodriguez too, to be honest. We still can't just keep possession once up and were a bit naive. Guly should have killed game on 65 minutes. Should have taken a touch not gone first time. Oh well. Thought we'd lose this one so a bonus.
Norm Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Well done Saints! 3 goals againts the best defence in the Prem!!
the stain Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 that is why we are going down IMO What, not being able to beat stoke at their ground?
smithy Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Even when he has a half decent game...he still f*cks up and misses a wide open gaping hole bigger than the ****ing grand canyon....it cost us the game. We'd have been 4-1 up. 2 points crop...somehow in the bottom 3 with appalling villa above us. Still 2 points from 2 away games isn't bad...it's c*nting up at home to Sunderland that f*cked our march up the table This sums it up
S-Clarke Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 that is why we are going down IMO We'll be alright, we've got a lot about us and will cause more teams problem. Pretty confident to be honest.
Chez Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 we hoofed well in the first half, they hoofed better in the second.
Jonnyboy Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Very entertaining match, it had a bit of everything. Obviously wouldve loved three points but we were only 3-1 up due to dodgy Stoke defending. On another day couldve easily lost 4-0. A point gained.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 that is why we are going down IMO How many more times are you going to post this FFS.... really hard to to believe you are a Saints fan...
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Not top 6 but unbeaten at home in 17 games. One of the hardest away days in the league for any team. Stop moaning and forecasting doom every 5 seconds and then maybe you might enjoy the season a little more. dont care how unbeaten they were, their 1st choice CB pairing were out...10 men for a chunk of the game...3-1 up at HT...they were not playing well..chances and a massive open goal to put the game to bed...you cant defend that really in the context of the game.... that game was there to win...when times like that happen, you have to take them...especially away from home... it was a poor result given how the game panned out
Suhari Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Great entertainment, and can't really complain about a point there. But......dodgy substitutions when we were a goal and a man up. **** poor ball retention - we're a prem team playing against 10 men FFS! And no leadership on the pitch. Did play some good stuff at times though.
