How reliable is Bleacher Report?

"Cagliari's Davide Astori Rumoured to Have Agreed Move to Southampton"

Think it's been generally accepted for a while that the player has agreed terms, it's the negotiation on transfer fee between the clubs that is taking it's time.

I seem to recall Tancredi Palmeri saying the same thing about Spurs contacting Bologna in the summer about Ramirez, after we were rumoured to be in talks over a deal. It's probably true but remember he's an Italian journalist and it gets attention.

However, no one would be surprised if a bigger club came in for Astori.

Compared to us, I can't see an Italian club offering more than we are. Might sound far fetched, but there's no money over there anymore. The money and opportunities are abroad, which is why many of that leagues big names are moving away. You only have to have a look at the AC Milan squad to realise how weak that league has become.

It's not the pull it once was.

His agent said he'd like to play in the premier league. Don't under estimate the allure of the PL.

Dont underestimate the allure of the PLs wages more like. I read somewhere Astori was on 10,000 euros pw at Cagliari. He'd get five times that or more here.

By the sound of it he'd be willing to come, and would get a hefty payrise, however we havent yet agreed a deal with Cagliari. Sounds quite similar to a few deals where we basically want to pay so much, and want the player to basically go to his manager and say he wants to leave, forcing them to drop their asking price. Isn't this what happened with Matty Phillips but the Blackpool chairman was being a bell end ?!

Yes, because we have met Cagliaris demands and Liverpool hasn´t....

Then given the lack of interest from elsewhere, I'd suggest we're paying too much.

As I intimated, if HE decides to go for us over Liverpool then you know it's all about the money.

It's dragged on has it? This is day eight of 31.

If it was the final week of the window, I could understand. But right now? Please.

We do have games in January though. It's not like everything stops for the window. The sooner the better for transfers because we need to get points, especially in games like Villa on Saturday which we go into without Fonte by the looks of it.

You do make a good point, but the situation has become much more urgent since Fonte's injury.

Agreed.

Don't under estimate the influence of the Southampton Way DVD which they play to potential signings. It brainwashes them into thinking we are a big club with a stadium that will be expanded soon due to our massive die hard loyal support and will soon he sampling champions league football.

How can you turn that down:)

Half of these twitter transfer feeds are rubbish, so I'd ignore anything you see from them. Only worth paying attention to journos with validated accounts tbh.

Think that one was just referencing a Metro link to the story.

Still, all of them seem to be ******** though

Tancredi Palmeri:

"Cagliari will put in stand-by both Napoli and Southampton according to Sky Italy, waiting for bid from Milan that would match the Saints one"

If true surely Milan will win the race then. I'm sure we have other options though

It seems that when Astori was sold to Cagliari from AC Milan, they included a buy-back clause - €8-10m.

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gianlucadimarzio.com%2Fcalciomercato%2Fmilan-ce-un-patto-col-cagliari-per-astori-i-dettagli%2F

Milan, there is a pact with Cagliari for Astori: details

A pact to give Davide Astori Allegri. Cagliari defender really like the coach AC Milan, the Milan now try to take it all. The president Cellino try to resist, but there is a deal between the two companies, dating back to when there was the transfer to Cagliari entire card of the player. At that time, Milan snatched an agreement to which for 8 to 10 million could resume Astori, if he wanted to. A moral pact that Milan will claim in the negotiations, looking for a defender.

Seems like it may have been a verbal agreement rather than an actual buy back clause

Seems like Cagliari are trying to start an auction, our offer obviously isn't as much as they would like but where they need the money their only option is to try and draw another club into a bidding war.

In the end it will boil down to which club will offer them the most money.

Sounds like we will offer the most but Milan will try to use this buy back clause.

When you are in for good players there is bound to be competition, its a sign they are coveted.

Im sure we have a backup incase it cant be done, just like Sharp last Jan.

Doesn't sound like the kind of thing Cortese would stand for. Either take the money or stick it
