Alan Nixon@reluctantnicko@Saints********Cortese has obviously got contacts and agents in Italy. Plus ambitions. But some of the names seem totally unrealistic.

 

Coutinho is his reference point i'm sure.

 

Ramirez was totally unrealistic in August, so nothing would surprise me.

To save my brain from hurting, assuming the €2m figure is right what would it be in pounds sterling per week before tax?

 

At today's exchange rate it's £62k p/w gross. The €2m per year net fee is right. He said so in an interview. He also got a €1m signing on fee.

Nothing is really unrealstic with us these days.

 

In a normal world, players like Fonte, Papa Waigo, Guly should be out of reach for a League 1 club - we had no right to sign any of those and it would have looked totally unrealistic -but it happened. Exactly the same with Ramirez, this guy was being linked with some of the best clubs in Europe and is such a coveted talent, but we did it.

 

We have ambition and we have the clout to back that up. The vision for European football looked a bit far fetched, and it does obviously at the moment, but if we're targeting players like this - and getting them, we will end up in and around that shakeup at some point.

I really cant help thinking that these exotic signings wont really help us to stay up...rather than get a huddlestone, dawson....

we really need to stay up this season....

Yep, pretty much. Said we wanted ''big signings'', and was also commenting that he wanted sexy which he was using to reason the story about NA being on his way out.

 

Could still be true...but he's doing a good job so far. (Some will disagree, but that's another argument)

To be honest, if we do get these players then NA will have to forget how to manage in the 2nd half of the season for us to go down. It would a joke if we went down with the players we could have.

 

But I'm confident that we'll have a 2nd half of the season to remember, I'll stick by that.

Newcastle, Leeds and West Ham have all probably said the same thing in the recent past.

fair enough...i remain to be convinced...a win sat would make me come round

 

for weeks we all have assumed villa are just rubbish and we are so much better..despite not being above them for most of the season...fail to beat such poor opposition, then I will think we are heading down...no doubt I will get shot down but we need wins now as we have screwed up so many times..

 

with exotic signings, no doubt there will be a period to 'gel' and 'get used to the league'...and we dont have that luxury whilst chopping between 17th and 18th....

 

we shall see

Net pay is 2m euros per year; before tax 4m euros. NI is 12%. Total gross pay is therefore probably around 4.5M euros per year, or 86,538 euros per week. Which is around £72,000 per week.

You sure mate? I ran it through the PAYE calculator on the tax office website earlier and worked it out As £62k a week.

I'll defer. My maths have been up the spout all day. I just figured 2M net at 50% tax is (very roughly) 4M gross, and before NI is around 4.5M euros per annum.

 

Christ knows if that's right. I hope not, anyway.

 

I used to be good at maths. Top set at school, passed my GCSE a year early, did it at A Level. Where did it all go wrong?

I checked it after the UI thread on it today, I'm sure £62k is the right figure. Don't forget it €2m euros so around £1.6m. I stand to be corrected though having struggled through my tax return this year!

Very interesting quote. One for the fans on here who say that they'd be happy with us relegating and then coming back stronger etc etc... there is no guarantee we'll return to the Premier League if we go down and this is one of the reasons why.

 

We need to start fighting relegation as fans again like we used to. Currently there seems to me to be a little apathy compared to the good ol' days of relegation scraps. Am I right? It's hard to know if I am given I am abroad and can't make any games at the moment.

bit early yet, some of us are just enjoying ourselves in the too flight, but give it a few weeks and we'll start fretting as well always do. No hero to bring off the bench a the moment. Perhaps if Ramirez doesn't waltz straight back in he can be our new MLT/Marian to clamour for.

Not the best of comparisons. TBH had zero resale value (and as well as being utter gash was signed as a favour to his agent) clearly the likes of Gaston would, the way he's playing we will have no problem getting an offer for the minimum amount as per his release clause. Really clever move by NC, means we can get rid of high earners quickly as well as reducing wages. Villa have no such clauses apparently, madness when you think about it!

Personally I wouldnt throw a defender into a game like that without really training with the team at all.

 

I would if he could have a couple of days of training. Any less and probably not. As he is so massively better than anything we have already, I'd be willing to give a little more leeway. Unless its done tomorrow I'd suggest (if it gets done at all) he won't be in for Villa.

Have a look where the vast majority of his work appears - national newspapers, and he also works for Sky on Soccer Saturday.

 

You don't have to be employed by a national newspaper to work for them. Most of them use and rely on trusted freelances for stories where they don't have dedicated reporters - which is most places outside of the M25 and Manchester.

 

Alan Nixon appears to be trusted on this forum, why not Alex Crook?

 

Yes, I do know Alex, and know that his contacts are good and that his stuff is pretty sound.

 

In fact knowing Alan Nixon's background, I'd trust Alex Crook's stuff more.

 

And just because his business is based in portsmouth doesn't automatically mean he is a skate supporter.
