Davide Astori Southampton target?

Classic Hawaii pizza; Bacon, Pineapple, Spring Onions (eurkk) Mozarella.

Quite like those but without the Spring Onions, then again I'm not a pizza regular.

Really? Bacon and spring onions as well? Interesting, I thought it was ham and pineapple, mozarella. You learn something new every day.

Anyway, Astori...

Does he not have a Cagliari supporting mate ?! Bit disappointed...

From what I've seen he's good in the air, god a good leap on him, and can also play it out the back. Let's just hope he's a very solid acquisition (if/when he arrives)!

there is an italian ship in the dockyard...will ask and see what they say

A potential new God you say? A defensive equivalent to MLT's attacking Godliness?

We have no hope of signing anyone good if our clubs reputation and the Southampton Way hasnt travelled to Italy.

IMO Les Reed should be on that ship back to Italy spreading the word.

It's too late. They will have already heard about Chelsea fans singing "your support is ****ing ****" on Saturday.

The dream is over

@Minarzouki: Update on Astori to Southampton from Italy.Reports suggest offer to Cagliari is approx €10m. Offer to player is 2m a year net for 3 years.

@Minarzouki: @alex_gray123 He combines brilliance with madness. Technical, expert at the slide tackle but susceptible to yellow/red cards

@ADBX85: @Minarzouki he's also a target of acmilan. right now his agent, vigorelli, is having a talk with galliani at milan hq

@Minarzouki: @andy38kirby @alex_gray123 Agent conducting talks with other interested clubs. We'll know more tomorrow

Good agent then, bumping up the price for the club and the contract for the player. He'll end up in Milan I expect.

Yep, sounds like we could be being used as a leverage for a deal closer to home.

£2M net a year is an enormous wage for a club our size. Same as Gaston too. That worries me; so much for living within our means.

Standard Agent work. Agree a deal then see if anyone will beat it.

And some people wonder why these things take time!

It worries me too but it's becoming the 'norm' in this league. As someone alluded to earlier it's all relatively insignificant if it means staying in the league with the vastly increasing riches available in the Premier League next season. Hopefully the contracts are such that salaries will be chopped in the case of relegation to reflect the decrease in club revenue.

I'd hardly say its the norm. Average wages for the Premier League last year were still less than £25K per week. This is way more than double that.

Gaston's deal was £2M per week net plus a £1M signing bonus. Or, to put it another way, in his first year his contract was worth close to £100K per year. A figure that Cortese himself said he wouldn't consider paying unless we had a 50k stadium.

Gaston is on (and Astori is apparently being offered) a contract that put s a buyout on them at their purchase price if we go down. If the others on teh books don't have relegation clauses (they surely must have) then relegation could be a crippler.

In all seriousness it's a big chunk regardless. The average of £25K you quote seems low but I know you are normally on the ball with these things so I'll take it as read. I wonder how many of the regular first teamers in say, the top 8 clubs are on this? Just a handful I would imagine.

Surely not, the genius alpine said we can sort these out immediately, agents, sellers, other clubs player cannot control the timing.

Or is snow for brains wrong again? Keeping his 100% failure record. Fingers crossed for league one play offs!

Is this one already posted?

I thought this bit was interesting:

It is expected that Astori will also have a similar clause inserted to his contract as Gaston Ramirez did, allowing the Italian to leave for £6.5m (€8m) if the Premier League strugglers are relegated.

Yes, extremely interesting.

To entice players of this reputation to the club though they will need assurances that they can leave in a fair way should the worst happen. Seems a sensible way of doing it. Our investment is at minimum secure and if they impress while here they should be able to find a new club at reasonable terms.

To those penny pinchers worrying - don't. You can bet that a lump of his "weekly salary" will be made up of bonuses.

Win Bonuses

Clean Sheet Bonuses

Now I see our cunning plan to keep costs down

(Oh source for that info? I am The Secret Footballer)

No, not me, the farking book

So his wages will be about 5k per week and 45k extra for a clean sheet bonus if we keep one. Good business in my book as we never keep clean sheets!

In all seriousness, I'd agree with you and expect the actual figure he receives is 5-10k or so less than the £55k ish reported.
