Di Marzio: "Astori-Southampton, far from it. There is interest, but difficult negotiations"

Cagliari in red, there is also the name of Davide Astori among the possible starters. Many teams have approached the defender, among them there is also a Southampton, which has already caught in Italy with Gaston Ramirez. The interest of the English club is real, Astori really like the Premier. However, there are few chances that the deal will go through, it is a difficult negotiation.

deja vu? or do Italian journalists simply follow a standard format when it comes to reporting transfers?? this sounds exactly like the Ramirez deal

according to Sky's career details for Astori, he's had 5 yellow and 1 red cards this season in 15 games.......hope that's not part of his regular behavioural pattern :scared:

7 yellows with the last 2 making a red, suspended for the next game think, don't know if that would be carried over to us if he joins before Cagliari play again. The italian branch might like to inform us of Calcio card rules. Birthday on Monday so don't forget to wish him a happy birthday.

Saints close on Astori

By Football Italia staff

Italian media claim Southampton are close to securing a deal for sought-after Cagliari defender Davide Astori, though Napoli are still in the hunt.

The Italian international is on the market after Cagliari publicly confirmed they have financial difficulties.

Astori is also wanted by the likes of Napoli, Everton and Juventus, but the Saints appear to be in the lead.

According to the Italian newspapers, Southampton have offered €10m, whereas Cagliari are holding out for €12m.

There are also suggestions that Astori has failed to agree contract terms with the English club, letting Napoli back into the race.

Southampton have already done business with Serie A over the summer, bringing in Gaston Ramirez from Bologna.

Getting bored with this already. Lesscott is available 8mill to qpr if tabloids are to be believed.

Any reason? This has been going on for, what, 4 days?

We all know what the Italian media are like and how they love a good story, and also how much ends up being lost in translation.

Bang goes our Euro league spot via the fair play league. I don't like the sound of this at all.

Hate to ruin a party, but discussed Astori with a couple of guys who knows italian football, and neither of them think he is worth € 10 mill. Says he is hyped, and makes to many errors. If we can get him for € 6-7 mill, it would be a good deal in their opinion.

Why? 13 pages in four days!! And what do we know....really know.....nothing. If these statements are accurate and this does last the time, for me (assuming I am allowed an opinion (not a direct dig at you by the way) that is) this is too long. We need to get either quality in or very decent back up by the next league game IMO. If this last the whole month ala Gaston then we too many very important games where we need to be picking up points. Don't get me wrong i would love this to come off. I just want my cake and eat it. Get the job done, get the player settled, move forward.

Grow up! With that comment I would say it is you that is below 25.

If we give up on transfers after a couple of days as you're suggesting we'd end up with no one at all. Why do you think that a deal for lescott would be quick and easy?

He's only preparing us for the invitable early Feb 'was Astrori worth the money' thread with a whole list of other players whi we could have got for similar amounts when he gets skinned once by Rooney in the Man United away game.

Blimey, what makes you think transfers are so straight forward? Do you expect it to be confirmed within a day or 2 of it being in the media??

You need to remember that it's not the clubs speaking to the media, it's usually journalists and leaks from the agents. The articles in the media aren't necessarily a decent gauge to judge the progress of the transfer on. You can see the interest, that's for sure, but you can't judge the progress by the articles that are released.

Put it this way, if we were to sign Astori on On Monday - but out of the blue with none of these articles or tweets, I imagine most people would commend the club on their quickness, but realistically even though we'd have not read about it, it would have probably been going on for weeks behind the scenes.

Why the need? I don't get it. I thought this was a forum for to discuss Saints yet you seem to more interested in trying to belittle me. I will leave it at that.

Ever tried lightening up a little and not taking yourself too seriously?

Funny that. I spoke to a mate of mine who is a Juve fan, and he thought he's be a really good signing for us. Said he was the best player on the pitch in the Juve match, and marked Pirlo out the game (something none of the English defenders could manage at the Euros). Apparently 'the bigger clubs in Italy' where also looking to buy him.

Lets see what happens.

Wierd. I spoke to a mate who is a Verona fan and he doesn't rate him at all. Said Pirlo was carrying and injury but when fully fit rang rings round him. But he did do a good job Marking Destro when they played Roma so he might be alright. Although he also reakons he's only worth €8.5m Euros and the rumoured €10m we are paying is well over priced.

He is hyped and prone to errors at €10m but a good deal at €7m. Got it.

IMO we need to sign him by Sunday night or not at all. Needs a full week training before Villa. If Fonte and Toshida play then Weimann will rip them a new one.

Transfer committee out, get a football man like Gordon Watson in to sign players. Upson would be better IMO because at least Ive heard of him and he would be cheaper because I hate it when we pay lots of money for exciting players when some bargain basement journeymen are available.

I really hope that was tongue in cheek, lol... maybe I'm just not very good at reading sarcasm any more because of all the bona-fide nutters on here :(
