Davide Astori will be a new player of Southampton. The 26 year old defender of Cagliari, which in recent weeks had been approached to Naples, leaving the Serie A and the Premier chooses a surprise as the next football adventure. In reporting the news is the drafting of Sportmediaset, which emphasizes that the agreement between the England team and Cagliari has been reached on the basis of 10 million. With the shirt of Southampton, Astori rediscover an old acquaintance of Italian football, the former Bologna Gaston Ramirez who went to St. last summer.

If thus one turns out to be true, it will be one of the best signings we've seen at the club. The guy has class beyond what we really see in the Prem (in relation to on the ball ability).

How often have you seen him play? Like most others on here I've never really heard of him so be interesting to hear from people who have seen him regularly.

From a Serie A analyst on Twitter:

@jackrathborn: Southampton in for Cagliari's Davide Astori, some smart scouts at that club, big upgrade on what they have #Saints

@jackrathborn: @KristianSFCoake he's excellent, former Milan youth product, and should've returned to them last summer. Would walk into their XI now.

@jackrathborn: I've watched every minute he's played since start of last season. Quality centre back, has ability on the ball, very classy.

I saw him ore last season than this admittedly, but then looking at Cagliari's defence this season it seems his form is still very good. Ball playing CB but tough in the tackle, think of the old style Italian CB's (the sweepers). Very excited IF this happens.

So the Italian press are talking like it's already a done deal?

Didn't they get ahead of themselves with Ramirez as well, or was that only held up because of the whole third party payments thing?

Posted

My oh my, would be a great coup. If you can get him and sign someone else in midfield then there is no chance you'll be going down. Love him or hate him, Cortese really does want the club to succeed.

Astori gives you the ability to have extra cover at both RB and LB, RB is Clyne is out then Yoshida can come in and LB if Fox and Shaw are out then Clyne can swap to the left and Yoshida on the right.

See he retweeted Albin Ekdal - wonder if he could persuade Nicola to stump up for him as well? Fantastic player, our midfield with him in it would be incredible..

Just curious, from where/what do you rate Albin Ekdal that high?

From what I remember they said about a fortnight prior it was done before the os announcement. Turned out to be true in the end there was just a few little complications.

Do we know if there has actually been a bid from us or just the Italian journos speculating?

It has for sure been a bid from us and probably just paperworks from being ready when Italian journos write it the way they have done this time.

The clubs work very close to the journos in Italy so for me it sounds like a done deal.

Further down the page it does say he's suspended from 22.12.2012 until 06.01.2013. One game suspension for two yellows against Juventus in their last match.

Bang goes our chances in the fair play league if he signs

foxtrot oscar... think ,about it. Alpha,Bravo,Charlie etc.

Got ya, i thought you were implying something about a footballer called oscar eg: the at Chelsea... Admittedly in nappies at the time but still!

Holy sh!! t!!! :o

I know what you mean Col. A lazy f*ker who loses concentration easily and will be no good in a penalty shoot out. No better than Martin and older by the looks of it.

Is that good?!

That is! Its all out of 20. He would on that basis be good enough for most clubs in the world, just the absolute elite would be beyond him.

Was just about to post this, we all know FM stats are gospel

How does that compare with our CBs and decent established prem ones?

Posted

it's most likely that Yoshida's place that is in jeopardy, as Adkins has often stated he likes one right footed and one left footed centre backs.. Astori is completely left footed

hopefully this spells the end of Guly?

true, they are fighting for the same position in the team.....

too bad as I rate Guly.

1st sentence not so serious

2nd sentence, actually very serious.

Well on the basis of the last couple of games Yoshida is undroppable.

If he signs, he will be our best player on Football Manager 2013. Above Ramirez, Lallana and Lambert.

Ah but is his PA above 175? That is the question we should all be asking. Maybe would could have a song about it against chelsea. I'm in Japan at the moment so won't make the game. Can Turkish or Glasgow stand in on my behalf and start this one off?

Ramirez still has a higher PA. So no need for a song.

Can you change this so that Green = best, red=middle and yellow =worst.

Thanks.

Seen him play for Bologna on the net a few times, Sweden too. He's part-owned by Juve, odd he's not getting more of a look in there tbh.

I never want to see Yoshida play full back again thanks. I have my reservations about Cork there, that Arsenal performance was about 1000% better than every other time he's played there.
