Matt Le Tiss, role with Southampton

Horton Heath Saint

Recommended Posts

As Terry Paine is now life President, what role could Matt play?

Along with Terry Paine he is Southampton through and through, possibly even more so as he is always in and around all the time, unlike Terry, who comes back to Southampton once or twice a year.

If Nicola could bring Matt on board it would be a massive coup, first and foremost, the supporters would have massive respect for you, it would be a massive selling point for the Club publicity wise and would send a massive message of unity.

Fact is, we all love Matt, it won't go away, bloody well get him involved with the Club. Move on Nicola! Stop being stubborn.

He is so much passion for the club, use it!!

Get Matt and Terry in to the Directors box on a Saturday, oh, if you want, you can sit in the middle!

MLT was fat, slow, lazy and unfit. Take penalties out of his record and his goal scoring record is average at best. Let's not delude ourselves into thinking MLT is a great guy and loves the fans, he was paid to be here and earnt a very good wage out of the club. He was an employee, nothing more, nothing less. Cortese is the future, leave Matt in th past where he belongs and where he appears to still live.

You clearly never saw the great man play if you think that. I suggest to visit YouTube.com and search Matt Le Tissier, I'm sure you will change your views then!

Has Cortese ever heard of keep friends close & enemies closer

If you remove MLT pens he would have scored over 160 goals in 540 games a ratio of 1 in 3.375 (2.57 including pens)

In comparison SRL with pens removed would have scored 69 goals in 176 games a ratio of 1 in 2.55 (1.85 including pens)

Have no idea what their assist stats are

..........and I suppose, if you took away the free-kicks situations that led to goals too, their goal tally would be even lower..?

oh I'm sure they / we all did,

...and NO-ONE would doubt his unique contribution to SFC at that time, and we all still love the guy for that.

BUT I think the big beef with some people ...ATM...is that the memory of his legendary on-the-pitch performances...doesn't equate with his current on-screen persona...and inflamatory public outbursts.

There are still a core of former players who didn't benefit as much as he, and who certainly weren't treated as well by SFC .who still love and support the club through thick and thin.

While I get that MLT is acting a bit daft, the bloke has genuine concerns about a club he loves. Is it better that he speaks out than says nothing? The problem is that some people want to believe that everything is great and dismiss anything negative as an agenda or a lie.

Also, don't kid yourself that MLT was well looked after. His final contract had him earning less than fringe players.

Thanks. Some people say a psycologist would have a field day with me but Im glad my contribution to this mongboard can be condensed into less than 200 words.

You have been politely asked to refrain from using words like mong but you persist, my view is that you are spoiling this site.

Oh you are completely wrong about Le Tiss, but I somehow think you know that.

I don't disagree. But it's one thing to speak to a pubload of fans and a posse of "quote-hungry " journalists, but he really should look to choose his words a bit better.

I'm sure a well-reasoned viewpoint would get Corteses' attention, but vitriolic outbursts aren't going to be taken seriously at SMS - are they ?

I read the Liebherr bid was on the table the end of May 2009, but no-one seemed to take it seriously, and (even with the best of intentions) Pinnacle / MLT continued to verbally abuse other bidders - and that must have got NC's back up. Personally, I'd love them to be able make peace, especially as MLT is also part of the club's history....and the "Puncheon incident" proved that reasonable discussion gets results.

As for MLT's " final contract " (your quote).. I know that sadly he was out injured for a large part of the last couple of seasons, and who knows how long he would have continued?

Keeping an injury-prone player a season longer, and another season....etc is a difficult decision. I really wish that David Connolly would have been fit ehough for ....maybe ONE more season ..(ah well).

I think MLT must have been satisfied and quite well-paid with his earlier salary......at least enough to have refused offers to Spurs etc....when he was playing at his peak.

He lost all credibility a long time ago, he is a troll and has hooked good and proper. The sooner he is banned the better. His references to the m**gboard are still as offensive as ever, even though he is top m**g, yet little is done.

How DARE you say that about a club legend. I bet you don't even go to games. Why don't you go and support Pompey? Most of us have had enough of your anti-club agenda, this is a step too far even for you. Its no wonder the decent posters don't come on here any more.

Grizzle grizzle grizzle. Pretty high scores in SWF cliche-bingo though.

You could always do us both a favour and put me on ignore. Don't forget to announce it when you do though, nothing is better than an 'I've got him on ignore' post.

why should he have a "role" Isn't he the self-appointed official sh*t stirrer already ??

You beat me to it lol. Why would Cortese pay a guy money who every quote is directed at Southamptons current set up. It was only a couple of weeks ago MLT had a major twitter fit directed at Cortese. It came out of nowhere and he made himself a bigger pillock than before.

Second only to announcing you're leaving the board, posting on another website about how crap it is , only to come flouncing back.

But back on topic, I would love MLT to have a role to play in the current set up, as for me he is up there in the top bracket of Saints legends alongside Paine, Channon, Lawrie etc.

However, it's simply not going to happen unless one (or both?) offer an olive branch and put all their ill feelings behind them. Is there someone with a feet in both camps who could bring this about (maybe something for Elvis in his new role as President?).

And have to say I do also find the "mong" comments offensive and of course unnecessary. Just as I would deem it offensive calling another "downy".

I spent over 10 years watching him spin his magic all over the pitch, pull us out of the S*** over and over again and almost single handidly keep us in the top division every season. He did so despite the fact he could have left and trebled his income on so many occasions. I was priveleged to watch him!

Well when you're a fan on the board you can ban that sort of thing Steve! How's the ego? Still massive?
