Has Adkins got anything right since the end of last season

There are strong rumours that ive heard from a couple of different sources that Adkins had a deal agreed for Robert Huth in the summer and Cortese refused to rubber stamp it. I'm not claiming this to be FACT just passing on what ive been told and no, I'm no revealing my sources and I don't give a sh*t if you beleive it or not.

I entirely accept that we might have feelers out for a number of players. Some we get, and some we don't. I don't believe that to be any different to any other club. It must be difficult to get an established PL player to move to a newly promoted club, accept a contract that includes a relegation clause etc etc.

I don't believe Adkins would agree a deal for a player. He will undoubtedly have a huge hand in identifying targets, and Huth could well have been one of many.

As I said I'm not saying it as FACT but I was told a similar version of events From two different people who dont know each other, one has connections at SFC the other doesn't. I'm not 100% sure of all the details but in essence Adkins did all the leg work on the deal with the permission of the committee and had it agreed with Player and club, passed it to Cortese who dithered and then refused to agree it for whatever reason. Just what I was told.

How can you say this thread is OTT, and then come out with that comment?

Because the OP asked if he had got anything right; of course he has, just not a lot. Many of the original points he made in the explanation have some validity; we dont have a a stable team or goalkeeper, and our substitutions often appear clueless in nature and timing.

We don't have a stable goalkeeper, none of the three have adequately stepped up to the plate. But we do have a stable team, or as stable as you could possibly expect in the PL.

More Adkins bashing! I think the guy deserves his chance, some people on here have very short memories. We were 2nd bottom in LEAGUE 1 when Nigel came to town! Now we are in the Premier League after back to back promotions. People have spoken about a lack of passion, what a load of ****. Unfortunately we are now playing in the best league in the world with some of the best players, I think our boys are not doing too bad. This wasn't going to be easy! Strengthen in January and we are going to be ok.

A bit OTT, this thread.

But, considering our mini-revival came to such an utter grinding halt in such mediocre manner against Sunderland following a break period, I do think we are floundering and he doesnt have the wherewithall to turn it around.

hardly OTT, it needs a post like "our play off hopes are hanging by a thread" before it could be described as that.

The smell of fish on this thread is unbearable.

Signed poor players, consistenly plays players out of position, team selection bewildering, times of substitutions bewildering, still experiminting after 18 games, has never installed any passion into the team why is he still employed at the club .In Nigel we do not trust

How did your team fare against Crawley yesterday? Did you help to fill the Park? Which is your favourite ground in the third division?

So are you saying that you think this is true or that you've been told it and have no idea if its true or will you later claim that you made it up for a laugh, like you did before? Nothing you say has any credibility because you're a well known liar and troll. You got the Guly thing completely wrong and then spent ages trying to convince everyone that you just made it up, as if that was any better than just spouting ******** endlessly as if it were the truth.

I'd imagine his spelling and grammar are better than yours though.

As soon as someone makes a point of writing something thats a real discussion point along comes the cardigan wearing grammar police inspectors that want to be the spelling equivilent of Carol Vorderman, these people are the real driving force of this forum........................

Why would a skate pay a fiver and come on here? I just think some of our fans are petty 50years Nigels in cardigans whos excitement comes on an internet forum correcting others spelling mistakes and thereby in some small way making themselves feel valuable, the last time these people felt a thrill was when they had a grab of Sheila from acounts at the Christmas party in 1985...................................

That'll be the same Sunderland team that beat Man City on Boxing day.

Just in case I'm one of those 50yo Nigels' in a cardigan, Barry.....let me say it's not the odd spelling mistake which leaves you open at times for a bit of a dig; more so the type of post you put up for view. The "moral compass" thread comes to mind as slightly all over the place in its content; not funny; hard to follow and more than a little pretentious. Hope this helps!

By the way, on topic, the 40 something Nigel without the cardigan is doing a fair job in a tight and ruthless competition. Yes, the GK situation is wretched and we have been lucky not to be more exposed at CB, but if he keeps his job and keeps us up then I'd rate it up there with the achievements of the previous two seasons. That would leave 2013/14 to try and consolidate like a Stoke or a West Brom.

Every manager makes mistakes every week. Ferguson has got a dreadful defence but gets away with it because his team score lots of goals. It can't be easy having to deal with transfers via a commitee and I wonder how many players that came in over the summer were on Adkins shopping list? Given time I think he will do ok at this level and if we do go down I cant think of anyone better to bring us up again.

Iwould like to refute these claims that I am a SKATE I am an SFC season ticket holder and following the SAINTS for FORTY TWO years and my Journey to watch home games is 104 miles round trip.Being a 57 year old brickie my computer skills are limited so I would not expect the abuse I have recieved following my post yesterday.Football is about opinions can I not have mine.

Of course you are a long time Saints fan, having watched them since you were knee-high to a grasshopper, used to go with your Dad as a regular in the chocolate boxes, followed them in Europe, was there when Benali and Lundekvan scored and other major milestones.

Pardon me for my scepticism when you arrive on this board with a handful of previous posts, the majority of which are critical of the manager or the club and then you expect us to believe that you are not a Skate on a wind-up.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion; we even allow skates on here too express their opinions. The abuse wasn't because of your lack of computer skills; it was because of what you said as a newcomer, starting a thread critical of the manager. Personally, I'm a fan of the previous system whereby you had to pay to become a full member before you could start a thread.

Why don't people understand that it's not an easy trick to bring a team up from the championship and keep them up? You have to recruit to get up, and then somehow magic a load of that squad away to get better quality in to stay up. This needs doing without destroying the spirit of the squad. You have a credibility problem bringing in real quality, not to mention the relative financial constraint of coming off the back of years of lower league income, (yes I know we spent £30m). The new squad needs welding together very quickly. As a young manager you have to get used to a higher level yourself, competing against other managers that have effectively been hand picked from across the globe. If we can stay up it will be the exception, not the rule. It's a real shame that AL has got injured because I think up to that point we were starting to really come good.

This +1

What I don't get on here is how some people want instant success and anything less than a win is a major crises...However it's 11 against 11 and the other team and manager are trying just as hard to get that magic formula as Nigel is.

Doesn't matter if you are Man Utd, Barcelona or Halifax the opposition never just turn up to let you roll over them?

Suppose that's the little bubble people get in and they blame everything on their own manager when sometimes it's just the other manager got it right/sussed your tactics/got lucky etc...Ask Sir Alex whether winning the title last season makes Mancini the better manager of the two?

If Nigel (or anyone) could get our lot to win every game then he would be our managers for about two minutes then he'd be in charge of Man Utd, who would sack SAF for anyone who would guarentee a win every game!

Such a superior squad who had already lost too many games and had found themselves languishing in 22nd place. Yes we had a very good side but one which was beaten often under Pardew and of course Wilkins. People will still write off Adkins achievement though, anyone could have done it apparently.

Even Branfoot would of got us out of League 1 with that team, this back to back promotions is a smokescreen for now lacklustre performances and a team that looks inconsistent and uninspired at times.

Wigan are below us so how does that come into this equation then?

Because the first year they came up they were expected to go straight back down and thye stayed up, this is our first season and we look like we are going down, our next 7/8 games are key and how many points do you see us getting honestly?

We have sleepwalked ourselves into this believing we always have a another game, we do but in the Championship I fear.

Stoke - 0 points

Arsenal - 0 points

Villa - 1 point

Everton - 1 point

United - 0 points

Wigan - 1 point

City - 0 points

Newcastle - 0 points

Is this being unrealistic/pessimistic or just having an honest opinion.

See above in bold

Look on the brighter side of life we may get about 12 points from those games then what will you say were not good enough to stay up because we haven't bought 11 more premier savy players in January. then when we do stay up moan because we never got into Europe the first year we are back in the top division.

As the old man used to say quit your moaning

A point at home to Everton??? I can't see that myself.

How will we get a point at Wigan? If they win at SMS they are bound to beat us at their place.

We will hit Villa just when they recover from their current bad patch. No points there either.

In fact I cannot see us getting any more points ever again. Shall we just withdraw from the League like some other poster recommended a few weeks ago?
