RobM Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 We've gone for height at the back today then, which kinda makes sense in an obvious sort of way. Guly is a good addition on the left, his movement should give Stoke something to think about, plus he's a bit of an unknown to them.
RobM Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Interesting selection....obviously didn't see this as a game for Gaston or Yoshida, which I do kind of agree with. Guly will play the number 10 role, Rodriguez on the left I imagine. Thought Boruc might have been given a shot though. Yoshida is playing.
Bentley Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Going for height in the team today then... No Clyne still surprises me though
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 utterly terrible and seems too many players will play out of position.....again cant see anything but a heavy defeat...
CanadaSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Other than Lallana, that was pretty much the West Ham away line up, wasn't it? Dominant first half followed by cave-in.
RobM Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 It really does show the lack of depth we have in the squad.
S-Clarke Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Yoshida is playing. Good point, missed that. Assumed that was Clyne. Well we've obviously gone to match them up height wise. Going by the amount missing, I reckon we must have a fair few knocks.
madruss Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Clyne must be injured, but surely Richardson would be the better option than yoshida?
Rasiak-9- Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Yoshidas been brilliant of late but CANNOT play full-back.
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Clyne must be injured, but surely Richardson would be the better option than yoshida? richardson was on the bench the other day.. our manager trying to be clever again....will be amazed if we are competitive at all
CanadaSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Clyne must be injured, but surely Richardson would be the better option than yoshida? I wouldn't bet on that. The high ball slung to the far post is a Clyne weakness.
Katalinic Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 On paper it looks devoid of creativity, pace and strength so we will probably win 1-0 . I am dreading today's game to be honest.
S-Clarke Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Yoshidas been brilliant of late but CANNOT play full-back. Yeah, Yoshida is pretty horrific at full back. Etherington, should, have a field day.
Faz Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 A great opportunity to show he depth in he squad. J-rod to step up to the plate today.
MOSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I can see what NA going for here by taking the smaller and less physical players out, but we don't have the options at our disposal to do it well.
Wade Garrett Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Unless he's injured, I can't understand Gaston being dropped. Without him, we'll be far too predictable to trouble Stoke. Looks like a bit of a mish mash line-up, and Davis should have been dropped after his clanger v Fulham, and the one he nearly fumbled through his legs v Sunderland.
Convict Colony Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Hmmmm not feeling too confident with that team, whose filling in at right back, where's gaston ? How will JRod and Guly work and do you have to be over 6ft to get into todays team? Just as a random aside i will be aiming to watch this online from a nice lodge outside Vic Falls with all inclusive booze so enjoy the cold as its 34c today :-)
Hopkins Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Not suprised to see Clyne left out. Remember he was targeted by ourselves last season because of his height and also this season Bale scored by out jumping him. Ramirez might have a knock?
aintforever Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I guess Clyne must be injured. We're f*cked with that line up. Where is Ramirez?
benjii Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 ****ing weird team selection. Three at the back or Yoshida at right back? Either way, wtf?! And no Gaston. Odd.
CanadaSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Unless he's injured, I can't understand Gaston being dropped. Asset protection. When we were all excited about signing Ramirez, I'm sure the last thing we were thinking about was Stoke away.
S-Clarke Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 ****ing weird team selection. Three at the back or Yoshida at right back? Either way, wtf?! And no Gaston. Odd. Looks like Yoshida at right back, it is quite odd if I'm honest. Not seen the bench yet, but assuming we have a few knocks.
St Chalet Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Adkins, wtf? @officialsaints: Saints substitutes: Boruc (GK), S. Davis, Ramírez, Fox, Richardson, Mayuka, De Ridder. #saintsfc
RobM Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Perhaps we're saving everyone for Arsenal? Seems mad either way - we've either gone for height and strength to match Stoke, which we can't do. Or we're saving people for Arsenal, which is a mistake as Stoke is surely a better chance of gaining points. Or, and I hope this isn't it, we have a list of injury concerns.
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Asset protection. When we were all excited about signing Ramirez, I'm sure the last thing we were thinking about was Stoke away. then what the hell was adkins on about when talking about playing good football to beat stoke to me, that looks like we are going to try and play their game.......which will end one way
Wade Garrett Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Yoshida looked like a fish out of water when he played right-back against Fulham. I hope he's not playing there today. Cork would be much better there, and at least we then have the option of Ward-Prowse or Davis in CM. That line-up could easily be a 3-5-2.
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Adkins, wtf? @officialsaints: Saints substitutes: Boruc (GK), S. Davis, Ramírez, Fox, Richardson, Mayuka, De Ridder. #saintsfc our manager is an idiot
Matthew Le God Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Perhaps we're saving everyone for Arsenal? Seems mad either way - we've either gone for height and strength to match Stoke, which we can't do. Or we're saving people for Arsenal, which is a mistake as Stoke is surely a better chance of gaining points. Or, and I hope this isn't it, we have a list of injury concerns. Ramirez is on the bench so not an injury concern, Clyne not in the squad at all so clearly something wrong with him.
MOSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I guess Clyne has a knock if he isn't even on the bench.
Convict Colony Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Have to say if we can't find space for our 12mil man then we are truly ****ed, Serie A is a league of brutes so would prefer him than punch regardless of form we have to have faith in our investment otherwise which genius sanctioned the investment.
St Chalet Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Maybe we have gone 3-5-2 with Cork on the right? Looks a dogs dinner either way, especially with Richardson available.
CaneNero Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Another Adkins experiment that I fear will go wrong.
itchen_dan Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Bit worrying when the only creative options today are Guly and Puncheon. don't get me wrong. 2 IMO very good attacking players but we'll only get a couple of chances to stretch and unlock Stoke and I think Ramirez should be a necessity in today's team as he can pick out that one pass for Jay Rod or Lambert to latch on to. Gonna be tough with no central creative player. Team looks stripped of flair today and told to be more simple and physical which I think is showing Stoke too much respect. All well and good stopping their main threats but we need to offer our own ones as well. Something Ramirez in that no 10 role would've offered. would've taken a man out of their midfield or made the defence push up leaving the space in behind. Slightly disappointed but willing to see how it turns out. to be honest, who is expecting anything from today anyway?!
Wade Garrett Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Adkins, wtf? @officialsaints: Saints substitutes: Boruc (GK), S. Davis, Ramírez, Fox, Richardson, Mayuka, De Ridder. #saintsfc F*cking hell. Very puzzling.
CanadaSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Well, NA said he was going to use the squad over the busy period, but I tend to agree with RobM. Trying to match Stoke at the game they play so well is risky, to say the least. But then our tippy-tappy wouldn't work so well either against that lot. Damned if we do, damned if we don't, but damned nonetheless.
S-Clarke Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Let's all just calm down a bit.....let's see how the game pans out before throwing our toys out.

aintforever Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 Damned if we do, damned if we don't, but damned nonetheless. if he gets a result he's not damned. that's his job.
CanadaSaint Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 if he gets a result he's not damned. that's his job. Absolutely, and if he's right I'll be as pleased as anyone. It's a "ballsy" concept and I hope it works but I have my doubts going in.
student Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I dont think the team you've put out is all that bad really. Was never going to be a game for 90 minutes for Ramirez, I'd imagine he'll get the last 20 to try and get at stoke, along with Mayuka for one of the strikers as they get tired. That said Hooiveld is pretty much a cert to get booked and give away a peno today.
miserableoldgit Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 ****ing weird team selection. Three at the back or Yoshida at right back? Either way, wtf?! And no Gaston. Odd. I thought that he was crap, according to other people on this forum?
Thedelldays Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 I thought that he was crap, according to other people on this forum? who is crap?
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 29 December, 2012 Posted 29 December, 2012 W@nkers the lot of you, giving up on your team before a ball has been kicked.
