Can you think of any other alternative?

Stick Guly or Jay Rodriguez out on the left, they'd offer far more than SDR. I just don't rate the kid, never have done.

Just don't think he offers anything but a little bit of pace, with no end product. He runs around a lot, but produces the grandd total of nothing.

to be fair to SR he does tweet a lot, probably sticks cardboard boxes on his head in his spare time as well.

Square pegs and round holes, i think we need better but he is our only other fit wide player.

Guly and Rodigeuz have offered nothing in these wide areas, imo they are on the same standing as De ridder for the wide positions

De Ridder has offered nothing in the whole time he has been here.

Why do you think he has hardly featured?

I agree he has offered nothing, but i feel that he is our only option other than playing players out of position which people then complain about saying x player is not good enough etc.

This is a position we need to get sorted in January as its only Puncheon and Lallana that can play wide in these positions what happens if they are both out injured? Rodriguez and Guly on the wings?

if we play 442 or 4411 we'll lose, we need to counter their formation and play the ball around on the deck and close them down fast, if they are allowed to play their crap style we'll get battered. Hard to fix our left side problem maybe risk fox and play shaw in the more forward position, he played there in pre season for a game and done very well. Ramirez needs to play in the centre as a playmaker midfielder not as a striker or off the striker, he makes things happen.

Fúck me, they hate Nige more than the Brighton fans do! Impetus to go out and stuff them hopefully.

Are you stoned again Mikey? That is an outrageous team selection!

De Ridder is so bad that we're better off playing someone who's not a natural winger than him.

While I agree with you, I understand the club still rate him and are working on his weaknesses. We've recently employed a female 'vision coach' to assist players with all aspects of vision and trying to gain an advantage by players like SDR actually opening their eyes and others focusing sooner. Interesting, lallana's little renaissance came after a few sessions with her.

The alternative?

Personally I'd have no Lambert. JR up top, GR in the hole and Davis wide left. I'd have Reeves on the bench and give him a chance if we ain't succeeding down that side.

Perhaps I'd think about having JR and Lambert with the latter being required to augment the defence at set pieces.

To get anything at Stoke we have to take the game to them, keep the ball, don't concede any free-kicks, never put the ball out of play in our own half, be physical and (just for a change) take our chances to score. Simple really.

Beng physical probably means getting a couple of cards, not sure that we're allowed to do that nowadays. Perhaps it doesn't come into the category of "playing football the right way".

Lawro does not think we will get a result today his assessment is as follows:-

"The Saints are not too clever on the road and, although they have improved defensively, I cannot see them getting anything at the Britannia Stadium."

Would be great for Nige and the boys to make him eat those words COYR!!!!

4 games in 10 days is a big ask, so do we rest a couple of players in preparation for the Arsenal game? Wouldn't be surprised to see 2 or 3 changes for today's game. Lambert on the bench is an obvious one but if we do rest a couple more I can't see us getting anything out of the game. I'd take 0-0 if I was offered.

As far as I am concerned Lambert is our best striker. Lacks pace and needs to concentrate getting into the box all the time. Lambert crossing the ball from deep is a waste as he is the only good header of the ball unless JR is in there already. We need to get Ramirez on the ball as a priority, let him be the playmaker, just give him the ball wherever he is. As at Fulham we need Lambert on the field if we get a penalty, at the end of the season that could be the difference.

So the media have spent all week blowing smoke up Stokes arse and the fans think they might beat us 6-0. This is Saints, would be just like us to nick this one. In reality its arguably two mid table sides and not much to choose between them. If they are expecting to win by turning up and our attitude is right we have a real chance.

I understand we seem short of good options at LM but haven't we seen that JR is a fish out of water in that position?

We could put Fox there, or try out JWP, although away to Stoke isn't a great place to try a youngster out in a new position.
