Stoke build up

Given how our back four have improved greatly and Stoke are not the best going forward (only Villa & QPR have scored fewer) I think there is something there for us if whoever plays in goal can maintain his sanity for a full 90 minutes (unlikely).

1-0 loss and another hint to NA that we need a better goalkeeper ASAP in January. Since the rest of the team began sorting themselves out (after the WBA game), goalkeeping clangers have cost us 6 points and I see another costing us at least one point on Saturday

Leave the defence inc. Davis alone - last thing we need is inconsistency there. Mid 3 should be Davis Cork and Morgan. Front three should be Jrod with Ramirez and Puncheon. Lambert on at 75m to retain draw/win or attempt to keep GD respectable. We'll almost certainly lose this - Stoke are the type of team that will not give us enough time on the ball and we're so pedestrian in buildup play I strongly believe we'll not score. Home win - 3:0.

For me there is no need to play 3 CMs - they arent strong at keeping the ball and their CMs dont run the game. Their threat is in the penalty area and they like to squash teama into their own half and keep them there with balls going up to Jones/Crouch.

The best approach is to be more attacking and give them something to think about, especially with two defenders missing.

Ramirez just off Lambert (or JR) and then Puncheon right plus AN Other on the left. Need wide midfielders to help stop crosses going into the box so the central 3 in midfield wouldnt work and as NA has realised Gaston isnt good at tracking so needs to play central where he can do most damage.

Probably Guly for the left slot as we have nobody else.

A key part of the role of the two defensive midfielders is to support the full backs, having three "should" help with that. As you say the threat is out wide from Stoke. So 4 3 3 with seven defending and three mobile attackers who will also close down their defenders when they have the ball may work. No point in lumping it upfield and letting them send it back with interest.

No need to lump up field in the 4-4-1-1 but more protection for the full backs. 4-3-3 end up being 4-5-1 and thats when the ball doesnt stick up top as proven vs Fulham for the first half.

I'd be gobsmacked if we win this one, but don't forget how often Stoke's dropped points at home have come against seemingly weaker teams.

QPR took 6 points off them last season, Wigan and Bolton took 4. They do take their foot off the gas against lower teams sometimes.

The key to this game is how quickly we can counter-attack. Stoke are strong but slow, if we take half an hour to get the ball forward and allow them to get men behind the ball we'll end up with the same problem that we had against Fulham and Sunderland, which amounted in all of 0 goals from open play in 180 minutes of football. No point trying to go toe-to-toe with them in a brawl, we'll need to have an effective counterpunching strategy to hit them quickly when their guard is down.

They will hoof it, Kenwyne will score - no points for us out of this one....

Stoke actually play a lot of good football. They have developed quite a lot from the old hoofball days, but they are still a threat from corners and throws (even without Delap). But people should understand that there is a lot more to their game than the general concensus would have us believe based on the past 2 or 3 seasons.

Sorry but Stoke are all about hoofball imo. They just hit hopeful boys up to Jones or Crouch and rely on knockdowns and failing that they have set pieces. They will probably beat us but it will be down to physical factors more than anything and nothing to do with skill and vision.

"This really should be the 4-0 or 5-0 thrashing we have all been eagerly awaiting. I don't think there will be an easier game this season than this, at home to the 17th placed team who have only won once away from home all season and only managed one draw as well, while we are on fire, with a 9 game unbeaten streak. We finally scored 3 on Wednesday and I really reckon this should be the match we target to get 4 plus. Wouldn't be surprised with 6 even."

Well, let's hope we can upset this a bit...

Christ, they're not that good. The fickle short-term mind of a football fan never ceases to amaze me. Unbeaten in 8 or 9 and you're barcelona, you'll beat anyone who steps in front of you.

But...hang on...Lose 2 or 3 on the bounce and the manager has to go, the players aren't good enough, and we need a whole sale change in January...!! (That's what stoke were saying earlier in the season for christ sake!)

For a club like Stoke, they can easily endure a 9 game non-winning spell as easy as they've gone on their winning run. They're a solid side and it will be difficult for us, but they're not that good.

If there is one game I'd love us to win more then any this season, it's away at Stoke. Pulis is a complete and utter cock.

Would love it! I remember when we won up their in GB's first few months, Rasiak got both IIRC. Not sure why, but I never forget that win. Felt good!

It was only 7 years ago, and so much has changed. They were a bog average championship side back then, with Boskamp...(i think?) as their manager.

What a bunch of C**KS !

Oh I don't know, the pencil sharpener and tiles stuff was amusing. Then again I sort of could agree with them. I think NA is bland and does sometimes spout BS about our style of football. Don't listen to his build up interviews any more, heard one, heard them all.

Just turn the sound down and watch the training videos.

Granted, you do see them play a bit nowadays - but they can still get ugly when they need to. We like to play lots of nice tippy tappy stuff, and if we start to get the upper hand by doing so, they will kick ten bales of shyte out of us. We are far too lightweight to compete when it gets rough. If we get away with a 1 nil loss, no injuries, I'd be relatively happy.

3-1 to the mighty Saints. Team Depending on fitness?

Davis/Boruc

Clyne Fonte Yoshida Shaw

Davis Morgan Cork Puncheon

Ramirez

Lambert

Subs Davis/Boruc, Jos, Richardson, JWP, Jay Rod, Mayuka,Lee

Forgot....Guly? SUB or carry the kit bag

Why has no-one thought of that before? Two keepers in goal should do the trick.

Rodriguez in for Lambert.

Guly wide left.

Ramirez in the hole behind the striker.

Ramirez in the hole behind Lambert yes, but JayRod wide left. He has the speed to worry and get behind defences and Ramirez needs to work with Lambert. (He is wasted on the wing). Rickie upfront on his own is also a waste of time if he is not getting service.

Guly on the bench.
