jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Not going to be pretty to watch this one as Stoke are a horrible team. We need to stand firm and put our foot in. Shawcross being suspended is a bonus and their fullbacks could be susceptible to pace and trickery. If we gonna play Ramirez then needs to be in the hole otherwise he is wasted however without lallana we have to change our system to accommodate him. 4-3-1-2 Davis Clyne Fonte Yoshida Shaw Morgan Cork Davis Ramirez Lambert Rodriquez
70's Mike Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Stoke like to bully you, so game will be like alot of those last season away from SMS.Need to win second ball because they will win lots of first ball. Team above looks ok but Clyne could be suspect against crosses
dubai_phil Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Really think this is a Guly game. While not our most gifted he has a great engine, has seemed one level more fired up than many other players in his cameo roles last couple of weeks and has the advantage of being helpful in the air. Perhaps starting him wide right with Puncheon left may balance the side again and let Ramirez play in the hole. Davies on the bench. Not sure about KD for this one either. Downside at the moment is that I'm struggling to find anyone else to come down the pub to watch. REALLY not the game you want to be sitting alone for as I think we will get bullied, but with Shawcross being out that is a huge boost. Most of our Dubai massive are away for Xmas & NYE (we were down to 4 yesterday boo).

Ewell Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Ryan Shawcross is suspended and it cannot be understated how important he is to Stoke City. Also rumours their right back Cameron could be suspended as well. We are capable of getting at least a point here if we play and defend well. http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Potters&action=display&thread=204920

corky morris Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 We are wearing Yellow. My youngest 2 lads are the mascots too! Middle lad is at the Stoke development centre so should be fun. They have a couple of weaknesses. Vulnerable to pace & width. It's a pity Lallana is injured. Getting a point would be a real bonus.

Saint Charlie Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 IMO in terms of formation just match their 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 with ours. Ramirez just off Lambert and then fill the left midfield role with either Guly or Rodriguez.

Sour Mash Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 U can't leave Lambeth out vs stoke ffs? Just think Huth alone will mark him out of the game. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be "disappointed" to see Lambert playing, just would like to see how Rodriguez greater mobility would get on playing infront of Ramirez. Yes, Lambert is a great help defensively in the air, but that can't be the basis for choosing a striker.
skintsaint Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 U can't leave Lambeth out vs stoke ffs? tbh I would, Lamberts the type of player their centrebacks would easily cope with.. need a bit more pace and movement for their meaty centrebacks. Sour Mash Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Well the fact he is pretty much our only goal threat is enough for me. But that's the problem, he's becoming less and less of a goal threat. Partly because we've changed the way we play a bit and partly opposition defences have got wise to the best way to play him, but Lambert is looking less and less likely to score from open play. What is disappointing is that neither Mayuka or Rodriguez particularly look like grasping their opportunity and forcing Lambert out of the side. JackFrost Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Mayuka practically changed the game himself when he came on vs spurs, although when ever he has started he's been poor. As for Lambert being marked out by Huth, it wasn't that long ago that Lambert was giving Vidic and Ferdinand a torrid time. RL does seem to be half a yard short at the moment but I'd still play him against Stoke. That isn't just because of my status. Honest.

jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 27 December, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 December, 2012 What? Puncheon was very good yesterday. Steven Davis for puncheon wtf? this is the problem we have when with out lallana. we need mobility upfront especially when playing away hence me putting Jrod in but we also need ramirez in his most effective position to provide the creative outlet. my take is that stoke dont have much possession partly because they play hoof ball but because there midfielders are not very good on the ball so it is important we get hold of the ball, frustrate them and cause them problems with pace and vision. so 3 midfielders across the middle will keep it solid and then we have ramirez and lambert as the creative outlets with JRod hopefully using his decent pace to get away from there juggernaut defenders. jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 27 December, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Vs Stoke you need to cut the supply out wide. Need a midfield 4 IMO a lot of there goals come from corners or just knock downs from lumps upfield by midfielders or defenders. even when we play 4-4-2 we still tuck in far to much and let the oppo get crosses in far too easily. it is going to be tough for sure but we have slightly greater chance with shawcross being suspended. no point going like v like lets bring some pace upfront and try to get behind them.
