It was actually one of Lambert's worst penalties in a Saints shirt, Schwarzer got a hand to it and nearly saved it.

Who cares?

It went in.

The fact he is playing against better keepers is a factor too.

My bad I didn't see the deflection off the hand, I thought it went in the roof of the net. Still, the right result!

Not sure I agree with that. Schwatzer did get a strong hand to it, by guessing the flight and direction off the ball but the pace and placement meant he was always picking it out of the back of the net.

Which bit don't you agree with? Lambert has scored every penalty he has taken for Saints, all I said this was "one of Lambert's worst in a Saints shirt". Its all relative, he scored, we all celebrated. :)

Haha I have a similar video on my phone more-or-less directly behind the goal, I have to say it was very central despite being well-struck! Better keepers would arguably have saved it and I'm not sure Schwarzer didn't get two hands to it!

I was right behind the goal and he struck it so hard that Schwarzer couldn't keep it out even although he got his hands to it !

If that was deemed a poor penalty then maybe we should bring back McGoldrick ??

I didn't say it was a "poor penalty", I said it was "one of Lambert's worst penalties in a Saints shirt" and he has a 100% penalty record for Saints with roughly 30 penalty goals since 2009. Its all relative! :p

Prehaps it was a very good penalty but also one of the best attempts by a goalkeeper to save one?

Hit hard, rising, unless Schwarzer got something on top of the ball it would probably go in somehow. These balls are light and

easily deflected, take a lot of stopping though when hit that hard from close range. With the old balls keepers used to catch them most of the time, with these new ones keepers tend to punch them sideways whenever in doubt. Saw Mignolet doing it all the time, never in front, always to the side.

Rickie seemed somewhat relieved on MotD, so I guess even he realised that it was not his best ever. Still he has scored every pen he has ever taken for Saints, and they all count the same. May be a good thing, perhaps he will not be blase in future.

I never ever sit/stand behind the goals these days because IMO you do not get a real perspective of open play, but in this case to be as close to the net with Rickie causing it to bulge was a great feeling !

Schwarzer made a great attempt to save it but with that power he really had little chance !

(Ps. MLG, I was not being personal and I did take your point !)

however, it did cross the line and so it counts - even without goal-line technology... Do you want classic penalties every time..... or ?

Rickie has penalties nailed, hit it with power as far to the corner as possible and it's pretty much a guaranteed goal. The GK may get a touch to it, and it may look a bit scruffy at times, but with the pace Rickie hits it with it's often passed him before he's got a decent hand - so GK's don't really have a chance.
