Turkish Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Precisely why he's got the job. If he lived in Chilworth and had reputation for speaking out he wouldn't have got near it. This is a nice little number by the Loan Arranger. Well played Nicola. Quite. In many ways The perfect candidate, a club legend so will get the some fans applauding it as a great move, yet far enough out of the way not to have any influence whatsoever or even have to bother attending games. Quelle suprise! Two equally deserving candidates, one that has few good words privately or publicly and that would not fail to make an impact upon the selection? Neither would be attending full time because of work commitments but it would not take much for Paine to increase his visits for parity. Please take at least one step into the real world. eelpie Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 @officialsaints: Southampton Football Club today announces the appointment of Saints legend Terry Paine MBE as Honorary President #welcomehometerry #saintsfc I think this is a nice move by the club. The player with most appearances, World Cup winner (albeit a squad member) and very big TV personality now in South Africa. Excellent news. But btw he was more than a squad member. He played in the World Cup against Mexico at Wembley.

um pahars Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 My dad was well chuffed with this, as Paine (along with John Sydenham) was his hero. I never managed to see Paine play for Saints as my first game was October 1974, but he is up there as one of our all time legends, so he's an ideal candidate for the role. St Marco Posted 27 December, 2012 Share Posted 27 December, 2012 Can you explain what the job involves please. Pretty sure an honorary position isn't really a job. More of a reward for years of service. Think of it more as a title. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_of_honor But hey any excuse to get a bit of Cortese bashing in there hey! You guys are unreal.
