Will Buckley - Brighton to Saints (link in the Mirror)

Great to see we still don't yet show any indication of signing someone with PL experience. That would be terrible.

Footballers aren't born with PL experience, you know. Until they are introduced to it, they will always be lacking PL experience.

We have a team full of player with that experience now, and it means nothing.

Bonding and playing as a team matters, and our defence is the priority at the moment I still feel.

But I'm reserving my judgement until 1st Feb, as people far more experienced and better placed than me who work for Southampton FC are given a chance to bolster the team

Thanks for pointing that out, genius. I had no idea.

At fulham today, tell me if you saw a team benefitting from an experienced old head on there. I must have missed it; well, for us anyway. But then I saw Chris Baird and thought he had an absolutely great game, so what do I know? And Berbatov was pretty superb. But apart from that...

We do not have a team of experience. We don't. But carry on shouting it if it makes you feel better.

Keep crossing those fingers to Feb thoug; that'll do it.

I was listening to the Villa v Spurs games yesterday and the commentators mentioned several times that whilst Villa have a talented squad of players they have no leader on the pitch or any experienece players their young squad can look to when things are going against them and lift them. You can draw similar parrallels with us, how many times this season when we've been struggling and things haven't been going our way have we had anyone on the pitch lift the side. Our biggest problem is whilst we have some talented players they are learning, our manager is also learning and they don't have anyone to learn from and haveto do it all whilst in a relegation battle, so unfortunately it's going to be by learning by their mistakes and as they go along. I wonder if those people telling us we didn't need premier league experience during the summer have now changed their minds? And no, I dont mean Kieran Dyer FFS

I think they hoped to get that from Steven Davis actually so as I think they identified it, the turnout hasn´t been what one could hope.

I agree, but yesterday suggests that the players are learning pretty quickly and are getting much more 'streetwise'.

Really? One point against a team woefully out of form. There have been plenty of other times recently when the game has been going against us and no one on the pitch has taken responsibility. In fact you could say 3 of our last 4 games before Fulham were like that.

I had same thought, but unless we are going to buy a type of " former super-star international " to hold it together, it's hard to see where he might fit in... and who we would drop .

Fact is we're harder to score against and harder to beat than we were earlier in the season. Better tactics and players picking up valuable experience.

I'm not saying we're a great team though.

good point. Wide left is realistically the only position we have an available slot right now. All positions can be improved upon, but that is he glaring hole

the opposition hasn't been as good. If United, City, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea were up next then it wouldn't be surprising if we started conceding goals again.

That isn't far off our next few games to be fair.

Ah the experience of giving away one of the most stupid penalties I've ever seen (thanks Chris, your loyalty to Saints shone through yesterday). Think I would pass on that (although I would actually like to have Baird back, he is usually a rock). I also think Berbatov would be a superb addition to our current team, his play would fit in brilliantly with Ramirez in my opinion. Wasted at Fulham where no-one seems to be on the same wavelength.

Hangeland is just an absolute beast. Signing someone like him would be perfect. Even Senderos had a pretty decent game.

We need captain Deano back IMO. His clapping and shouting "COME ON" when we conceded is sorely missed.

oh. This is when the Gazza mistakes against Swansea and Norwich come back to haunt us as those extra 4 points would give us that little bit of breathing space.

not to mention yesterday, as I said in the Adkins thread we should be on 22 points now and the fact that we aren't is down to just 3 absolutely avoidable keeper errors. The Premier League is a harsh mistress

If we could pair him in the midfield with David Prutton (who could cover the after match clapping)' date=' we'd pretty much have sorted our clapping for the season IMO.[/quote']

Don't forget Jos, he's a pretty solid and consistent performer in the clapping stakes.

His agent bumped up his deal at Brighton then.....

It's part of the " agent-orial tactics "...get the media to link him with other clubs, if possible at some ridicuolus fee (even if he's not, and doesn't want to leave). and force the club's hand to quit or twist !!

RESULT ; a new deal.... and an increased % for the agent, and a bigger salary... on a longer contract for the player who doesn't have to do ....anything.
