Great to see we still don't yet show any indication of signing someone with PL experience. That would be terrible.

It's only a couple of inches in a paper, nothing worth getting upset over. Buckley is a talent, but we need PL experience at the back more importantly.

I know you are used to crying over just a couple of inches, but here is not the place for it.

I still find it incredible how much Brighton fans hate us. Bit pathetic tbh. Also them saying £2m + Lambert in the deal is hilarious - 3rd top English goalscorer in the Prem dropping back down to the Championship when he's been integral in 2 promotions with us? Having a laugh.

As for Buckley, I think he's a fantastic player. Would feel better about Punch possibly leaving if Buckley was to come in. Any money from a deal involving JP would offset a spend on Buckley too, which would keep Delldays happy. Apparently we spent £30m in the summer - first i've heard of it.

I suggested him in the summer, so I'm happy to see we are linked with him now. In the game at their place he tore us apart. Very strong direct and powerful runner. I don't give two hoots about his lack of premiership experience. Being a good player is all that matters.

Far too sensible, stop it.

If we were talking about a CB I would agree with you but as a forward player with pace and skill he should do just fine. Let's face it just about none of our forward line have previous PL experience and yet they haven't looked out of their depth and haven't really done badly in creating chances nor knocking the goals in.

Agree. Also, one would suggest that Mr Hammond has possibly fed back to Mr Adkins on Buckley's character and attitude now as well and how he'd fit in?

Norwich signed loads of players with prem experience.........................NOT

They actually signed a couple of players each of the last 2 summers from PL clubs; in particular this summer Bassong and Turner. Don't need a whole team with some decent top level experience, of course; but just 1 or 2 players would be quite nice. Still, probably won't happen as its not really our thing, so it matters not. And its more about the ability of the player than anything else. So we'll see.

To be fair we was crying out for someone to get to the byline and whip in a decent cross on saturday so maybe Buckley will provide that. This chipped nonsense from silly angles is pointless and the amount of over hit crosses was staggering. We have a goal machine in Lambert who thrives on quality service. The cross that Lukaku scored from for WBA is the sort of service Lambert needs. Even though Torres header was brilliant and wasnt an clear cut chance yesterday the cross was decent as it had pace and allowed him to attack the ball.

the really best players in the Championship can improve premiership teams. Seeing as many of our players - Bale, Walcott, Jones, Chamberlain - have been snapped up by Prem sides you'd think we'd be more open minded to lower league players now we have made it.

Is it being close minded to lower league players to say that you'd like to see one or two players come in who've done it before at the top level?

Very odd if that's how you see it, but fair enough if you do.

Congratulations on missing the point.

Isnt it amusing how whenever anyone mentions signing players with premier league experience there is always someone who trots out the usua ames of a number of failed or injury prone, past it players, like they are the only players in the whole country with premier league experience.

And just as easily I could have pointed out £7M for Rodriguez, £12M for Connor Wickham, £6M for David Nugent plus countless others who have been bought for big money from the lower leagues but haven't made it (in the case of JRod I'll say "yet"....)

As I said earlier in this post, the most important thing is the actual ability of the player. But unlike others I choose not to disregard the effect that an experienced player can have on galvanising an otherwise very young team (one of, if not at some times the very youngest in the PL). Yet to some of the blowhards on here that seems to equate to either only spending mega-millions on failures, or filling the team with only those who've played in the top league before and totally disregarding lower league players. Its quite bizarre reasoning really. One, maybe two decent experienced players could and would make a workd of difference to us IMO.

On the 'saints best ever signing' thread a few of us mentioned Jimmy Case, for this very reason. An experienced, season pro who was able to help the young players along and was a real leader on the pitch and in the dressing room as well as being ble to protect them on the pitch and learm from him. Exactly what we could do with now. Yet for some this seems to equate to blowing millions on Kieran Dyer.

Similar to when we blew millions on Chris Marsden.

Absolute meltdown on northstandchat! One individual even threatening not to renew his season ticket if this bloke comes to the 'scummers'! Perfectly in keeping with the most precious, deranged fans in the United Kingdom.

there not even the most precious, deranged fans on the South Coast!

For once I do agree with you. We seem to lack leaders, we lacked leaders when we last went down and we're lacking them now. There's no Jimmy Case out there and nobdy jumps out at me, but we pay lots of money for scouts, they need to start earning it.

Good player, but do we need him? Not sure, unless we're looking for a replacement of some kind. Puncheon off?

well seemingly we want so much competiton for places that the players sh@g themselves out in training every week trying to prove that their actual match performance last week wasn't just a fluke. Adkins is just too much, if you don't score 50 goals in training matches instead of preparing yourself for Saturday you're out mate. That's the impression you get listening to his latest interviews.

if someone can suggest a wide player with premiership experience that is actually good, available, within our budget (transfer fee and wages), then I'm all ears. Jermaine Pennant maybe?

The concept of experience is overrated IMO especially in flair players. Quality is all that matters.

we are not exactly inundated with players that are good enough to play left and right midfield at this level

That's a good point - I didn't know he could play both sides TBH, so yes I think he would be a good acquisition and probably in budget range. Would rather we had natural wide players to put out wide than play JRod and Guly out there.

The Buckley rumour would fit with our apparent transfer procedure of selecting two targets and seeing which one bites first. This was evident with Seaborne / Ward, Sharp / Hooper and possibly even Butland / Gazzaniga.

I would suspect our main target is Matt Phillips.

I would suspect our main target is Matt Phillips.

Phillips would be gagging to move here, dealing with Oyston is the issue there.

What's the point? We were asked to do this in the summer, as to which centre backs we should have signed. And despite naming such players that moved and have proven to be a decent acquisition, such as Bassong and Turner to Norwich etc, pretty much all ideas were dismissed out of hand.
