the stain Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 Thanks God that RVP is ok. When I saw the footage I genuinely feared the worst and don't mind admitting that I cried a little. I was mighty relieved when he got up and started being all aggressive. I think we will all be thanking our lucky stars tonight and telling our families how much we love them. Think Fergie was being a bit dramatic but I reckon he meant it. If RVP had stayed down then Williams would've been red carded.

The whistle went a split second before the clearance kick and he neither had time to pull out nor aimed at VP's head. So I'll agree to differ. Its a bit like debating whether a defender meant to give away a professional foul; its still a professional foul whether he meant it or not. dubai_phil Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 Not surprised that Fergie was furious. If RVP had stayed down another 0.001seconds, he'd have had an extra 8 minutes of injury time added.

Surely that can only be the case if it was intentional? If it was unavoidable it can't be described as 'disgraceful' surely.

I said I was 50/50 whether he meant it. if he didn't mean it, it was still disgraceful that he took such reckless action when so close to the player. Greenridge Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 It's not a matter of what I think. Using the term 'disgraceful' as you did in that context can only be inferred that it was an intentional and malicious act. Make your mind up. Why are you being weird and trying to challenge it? My mind is made up. I think it was disgraceful; whether he meant to strike him or not. Williams entered into a thoroughly unnecessary action, and that happened as a direct consequence. It was an idiotic thing to do.
scotty Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 I cant see that as intentional myself, Williams would be the only person who could say one way or the other. Looks to me like he was trying a last-ditch effort to clear it when the whistle blew, and sliced it into RVP's head. His foot and leg were aiming in another direction altogether from the path the ball ended up on.

Micky Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 Honestly, this is what it's come to is it.... 'lucky to be alive....'. Sheeesh, ok it was out of order, but get some perspective ffs. The game at premiership level is an absolute joke. 'Lucky to be alive'.... I dispair, I really would like to take him and some of his players out of the premier league bubble and introduce them to the big wide world. Merry Christmas everybody - it's good to be alive in normal land.
Turkish Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 I love it now some many people are having a go at Fergie for his comments when he was clearly angry at what had happened and totally ignoring the fact that a player could have been seriously injured by someone smashing a ball at a players head from 2 foot away, if that had been one of our players you'd be going nuts demanding he be banned for life. All you mugs on about no one ever dying from being stuck by a football clearly have no idea just how hard proffesional footballers can strike a ball. It's not like being struck by one hit by on our fat, fancy dress half time relay boys.

Smirking_Saint Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 To me when he strikes the ball he is looking at RVP the whole time, he has struck it with his laces and TBH had no need to smash it clear, and lets face it he isnt going to come out afterwards and say he meant it is he ? Plus he is about two foot away, he knew it potentially could hit him at the very least, IMO he obv meant it and should get a ban.

I remember going to a Harlequins match a few years back and seeing that Tom Williams having to come off the pitch. Proper bleeding he was and everything. Hopefully he was okay in the end.
