Don't Sing in the Northam

The atmosphere really suffers unless there is the full 3,200 away fans.

No idea why.

Such a big game it should of been rocking.

Bullsh*t. The best atmosphere I can remember in recent years at SMS was the JpT semi final and there were only about 200 away fans. Too many JCLs. Today's atmosphere was one of the worst I can remember.

Other than that?

I just think the vast majority of the games where Block 43 is open to home fans and the away fans are stuck in the corner the atmosphere suffers.

That had something to do with the fact we were on the verge of going to Wembley as well.

It was impossible to get a song going second half. A few people dotted around joining in but most standing with their hands in their pockets. Miserable.

Fact is the majority often aren't interested in getting behind the lads.

They're probably the same embarrassing types who used to sing 'your support is f*cking sh*t' to the likes of Carlisle fans who had made a 12 hour trip.

The Sunderland fans didn't make much of a noise until they scored! Then they were loud-but it's easy when your winning!

Your mate sounds like he was just trying to p*ss you off - you should just dump him! Also sounds a bit like jealous - have you see Sunderland - it's right down there with Middlesbrough.

As for the home fans - we started OK but went flat just like the team - the two things are normally very connected

he text me and said..

**** city, **** area, **** ground and **** fans

A bit rich coming from a mackem. They are famous for when being asked where they are from by people on holiday, telling them 'Newcastle'.

As for their ground, not bad apart from the pink seats.

From my geordie brother in law...

(in the tune of the whole world in your hands)

They've got 27,000 empty seats

Sunderlands a massive club.

They've got £5 for adults and the kids go free,

They've got Steve Cram, celebrity fan

The irony of a Sunderland fan accusing us of living in a **** city! As you say, Sunderland and Middlesborough must be two of the ugliest cities in the country. It must have been refreshing for them to be able to breathe relatively unpolluted air for a few hours. As for their fans, credit for travelling such a distance but I'll excuse their quiteness because they probably had to get up quite early to get here and most were probably suffering from coach lag.

the team did nothing to encourage the fans to raise the volume. the team was so flat which meant the atmosphere followed suit. yes teams can have off days and fans can be the 12th man to drive them on but when the team create **** all and never look like scoring it is likely the fans will stay quiet. to be honest even had sms been loud and rocking today still dont think the team would have raised there game sadly.

I'd imagine that met people just don't know what to do. If they sing a song there'll be someone saying "oh what an embarrassing song", if they wear their replica tops, there'll be someone telling them that they've ruined terrace fashion, if they dress up Christmassy they'll be told they're gimps. It's probably safer jus to go and stand there quietly, without moving or looking at anyone else.

what was your reply?

Im sure dell days would have agreed.

I think we're missing a bigger point here.

Why is the lack of atmosphere being directed towards The Northam? There are three other sides to the ground and it ****es me off that relatively little noise comes from anywhere other than The Northam. Granted, Kingsland North makes some noise but often they're singing a different song to The Northam and it's like they're trying to out-do The Northam which only makes the atmosphere worse. Itchen North does have a few singers but it's not large enough to create and atmosphere, only adds to it when we're winning or it's a crunch game.

I'd love to go to a game where the WHOLE stadium is singing......unfortunately we can't play Pompey and Man United at home every week.

But yes, we were shocking in The Northam yesterday.

With that sort of attitude I doubt the comeback against MK Dons would have happened.

I really do miss there being a proper atmosphere :( Tried to get chants going all game and eventually gave up because I was on my own. Utter sh*te, from team and crowd.

To be fair the sunderland fans were also ****. **** numbers and **** support..

It'll be iteresting to see how many we take to The Stadium of Sh!te then. 2000 travelling the length of the country on the last weekend before Xmas wiith all the expenses at this time of year, to watch a team who are out of form, is pretty damned good a I far as I'm concerned.

Absolutely nothing in the Northam today .Even saw a bunch of trendy ****s tell a group to stop singing today as they were getting on their nerves. What the **** has happened to this club?

They weren't telling them to stop singing, they were telling them to stop abusing others that weren't singing. Singing is never an issue... when they start calling people c*nts for not singing, repeatedly week in week out it gets a bit much. They needed knocking down a peg or two!

Where can large numbers of menfolk gather nowadays to celebrate their tribal allegiances and be hostile to another group, in order to let off steam and burn excess testosterone? This is an instinctive, basic bio-social need of males. Modern society is so emasculated, passive, risk-reduced and feminised that there are fewer and fewer opportunities for discharging collective and individual aggression safely. If that need is not met and sublimated in a relatively civilised theatre, it is certain to be forced out somewhere more damaging to society or individuals.

It certainly ain't Premier League Football.

Sounds like some kind of gay bondage club is what you're after.

The third one is a plain lie, but a Sunderland fan saying our city and area is **** is just out of order, pathetic, wrong and stupid altogether. Seriously, I thought they had mirrors up north...

He does not live in Sunderland. Born there but grew up in London

Just a life long Sunderland fan

Hand him over Thedelldays. Unless, of course, you agree with him? Is that it? In fact, does he really exist, this "friend". Or have you invented this character so you can spew your vile comments about our city and club? Something is rotten in the state of thedelldays.

It wasn't the best atmosphere but it was a dreary day and there was sod all to get that excited about! The sunderland fans only perked up when they got a goal to be fair. I think maybe this one should be chalked up as a bad day at the office and hope it doesn't cost us come the end of the season ...
