Lord Duckhunter Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 Watching BBC 4 last night, there were a couple of programmes celebrating Slade. I really had forgotten just how good these guys were. It was hit after hit after hit. Maybe it's a longing back to my child hood but I really dont think these guys got the credit they deserve. Anyone else agree, or I'm a just a tipsy old fart tonight? [video=youtube;-QlsqyxUkro]

Dimond Geezer Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 You may have been a tipsy old fart, but you're right, there's a lot more to Slade than Merry Xmas Everybody, (although their spelling leaves a bit to be desired).
dubai_phil Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 Back at the end of their era they played a gig in what appeared to be a Village Hall in Andover I recall a coach going up there from Salisbury and they were great but youch it was a long time ago
TopGun Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 Noddy is a fair enough bloke IMO. I'd be interested if anyone could explain or estimate Xmas royalties on their mega supermarket hit though.

Pugwash Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 Worth listening to their albums - so much better than the commercial 'pop' stuff they're best known for.
dubai_phil Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 The Wiki entry for Merry Xmas Everybody is a cracking tale. Full of ORLY facts Like - it was used in 4 different Dr Who Episodes It's been heard by 42% of the population of the planet The chorus was recorded in a corridor The Harmonium was borrowed from John Lennon who was recording Mind Games in the studio next door The original chorus was Buy Me a Rocking Chair and contained the immortal lyrics So won’t you buy me a rocking chair to watch the world go by and a looking glass to look you in the eye http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merry_Xmas_Everybody
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 I saw them in 72/3 at the Guildhall. Supporting acts were Suzi Quattro and Thin Lizzy. Very under-rated band. Excellent live act.
swannymere Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 I hate to say it but i'm wary of supporting any 70's stars these days.
dronskisaint Posted 23 December, 2012 Share Posted 23 December, 2012 Noddy Holder's is one of the classic rock voices...much influenced by John Lennon if you read his biographic stuff. They were amongst the best of their era...saw them at West Runton Pavillion with Mud and someone trashy like Greyhound, fun days!
