The Mayans and Steve De Ridder

Was De Ridder playing in the premiership part of the Mayans' new era?

No. I think that yes, when the wardrobe fell from the sky and coated the whole of the east coast of Argentina in tuna flavoured jam, that there was a President who went for a walk in the park, where she stumbled on a Christmas Pudding that was ignited using water from the fish gods of the Pacific and then, De Ridder played according to Mayan prophecy.

He did what he was told, ran at people and covered the left. Shame he's terrible but shear pace should have created more.

Fun to see him but I should have won my bet with a mate that he would have been subbed off, after about 5 mins looked so horribly out classed it was embarrassing

I think "horribly outclassed" is over stating it quite a bit. He actually did ok - but after his cocked up free kick he didn't want to touch another dead-ball situation. He didn't really want to take the corner he fluked onto Fonte's head, and he flatly refused to take the next one. Davis took it instead.

On a serious note, we've let Billy Sharp go out on loan to a Championship club and kept Steve de Ridder. For me, that's the wrong call. De Ridder should have left quite some time ago.

Hmmm at least De Ridder managed to take one brilliant corner yesterday.. The other set pieces taking by the so called better players were utterly rubbish yesterday. That's our problem at the moment, and based on that I rather have De ridder start than any other player..

That Prowsey doen't get a look in anymore and De Riddler and Steve Davis are preferred shows Adkins still hasn't learned anything. Why, why why is James Ward Prowse not playing when Shaw continues to inspire

Because they are not the same player maybe?

He puts a good stint in on Twitter, and his Dad is a nice fella. This is more than can be said for Guly.

Why, is his dad an absolute sh*t or something?

De Ridder was a one trick pony. He used to get the ball, cut inside, beat one man, then try and beat the next four to score the perfect goal. With the exception of Reading away last season, it didn't work. He can't even beat the first man now, so he's a no-trick pony.

I'm utterly sick of him. A player whose hype was generated by fans of the club on this forum due to a montage of his goals and 'skill' in Holland and Belgium.

De Ridder was introduced yesterday because we were just not getting down the wings at all, everything was going down the middle

(IIRC anyway) Clyne started brightly down the right but tailed off after getting skinned for their goal. Plus with Sessegnon on his side he had enough to do. Shaw wasn' getting forward much at all. For some reason or other NA had obviously told Cork and Schneiderlin not to maraud farther forward than about 25/30 yards out, perhaps because the defensive attributes of Lallana would be missed.

Adkins hasn't learnt anything? So, despite completely turning he defence around, he hasn't learnt anything. I'd trust the judgement of the man who has spent the past few years training with these players and getting to know exactly what they're all about over yours any day. What makes you think you know more about the players than Adkins? How much time have you spent working with the players?

Come on be fair, this lad looked no worse than most of the rest of our squad did yesterday, and he even managed to beat his man and work the ball into dangerous positions on more than one occasion. He's probably some why off being a regular starter at this level - but he's quick and still young enough to improve. Who knows, maybe he'll make some on here eat their words one fine day.

I hope he does.

For me it was Luke Shaw, Jason Puncheons form and the return of Jack Cork that turned things around. Take them out of the equation and Adkins substitutions would shoe how little he'd learned.

Saw a interview with Steve De Ridder on the Sporza.be website,

http://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza/voetbal/buitenland/Engeland/121227_Steve_De_Ridder

He says:

Has to think about his career

Happy to make his PL debut against Sunderland

Doesn't understand that he was part of the squad against Sunderland, but wasn't selected against Fulham

In training others aren't better then him

Doesn't want to be a sub, came to England to play

Teams from Holland, Belgium and Championship are interested, but Saints wont let him go, say he has a future with us

Happy to be playing in England, but has to think about his career

He's hardly going to say he's crap is he? Sell him to a Dutch or Belgian team. Try and get as much money back as possible.

I think you maybe overlooking the fact that most "young talents " who come in take time to settle and seldom become permanent straight away.

Even the very consistant Wayne Bridge played two " half-seasons " before becoming a regular. So too, with Channon, Shearer, Steve Williams to name a few from the past.

Shaw has been a revelation since coming in, and NA has been sensible enough to "sub" him in a number of games, but (history) might say that he won't be able to maintain that sort of form although I hope that Fox isn't his replacement (!) but in the recent games the opposition wingers have shown no respect for him - just because he only 17 and he'll need to toughen upto (longer term) if he's to survive.

JWP (who you name above) played a very sensible role and showed a lot of maturity in the opening matches, when some others were running around like headless chickens BUT he was there only because

Jack Cork was unavailable through injury, and despite JWP's excellent showing he doesn't have the same defensive ability (as does Cork), and our much-improved form seems to bear that out since (Cork's) return.

I hope that we will see more of them both in the near future, but right now...with three " regulars " out yesterday, we can't afford to experiment when we have experience to choose from instead.

TBF, he's a footballer, and he wants to play. He either has to accept NA ' selections, and his " bench" role ..OR...he'll ask for a move.

Either way he must make up his own mind, and you can't fault him for saying that.

Personally.... I don't see him ever becomig a regular at SFC..so maybe he should move on?. I hope (for his sake) he makes the right decision.

I'm not faulting him for anything he's said. I want him to leave though.
