slickmick Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 What time do they usually carry out a pitch inspection ? Got friends making a long journey for this one. Heavy rain forecast all day.

Fitzhugh Fella Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 Not sure there is one planned but have just been in Southampton and walked the dog and the rain has not been particularly heavy - yesterday's dry day would have helped. I would be surprised if there is a problem.
niceandfriendly Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 I think they only have an inspection if there's a chance the game will cannot go ahead due to extreme weather. It's only been raining... and not very hard, so no worries at all.
derry Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 It's hammering down West of Southampton. It's got to be puddleing at SMS, watch the OS.
John Boy Saint Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 The Groundsmen are good at SMS and the drainage is good, I recall a game against Leicester where the heavens opened to the point that Noah was on standby and the pitch was puddled the game kicked off 15 minutes late as the ref let them squeegy the pitch. Spurs New Years Day 2003 the game looked in doubt at lunchtime but they weaved their magic and got the game on. Only the Palace game years ago has been lost to rain and that only because it had rained all day and all the city drains were overwhelmed due to a high spring tide stopping the run off into the sea. So keep your powder dry, anyway the game won't be off until the Sunderland coaches are in town and then they can go shopping in West Quay instead!! Tractor_Saint Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 @peterwhite_1 Just to let Saints fans know at moment there are no plans for pitch inspection and game is ON! But if things change I will tweet #SaintsFC
Tractor_Saint Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 @officialsaints It's rainy out, but there's no pitch inspection planned at St Mary's so it's a case of GAME ON for the visit of @SAFCofficial! #saintsfc
S-Clarke Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 Our pitch has always been very good, it would need to have been torrential rain for 24 hours non-stop for it to be under threat. It's not really been too heavy here, just the depressing light drizzle...!
Huffton Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 Did they ever connect the sooper dooper under pitch drainage system that was fitted but never worked?
Pilchards Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 Not raining now and their is no way this match will be called off. If anything the groundsman will be watering the pitch before kick off ha ha.
Huffton Posted 22 December, 2012 Share Posted 22 December, 2012 Looking at the radar the worst has passed us now, also the tide was low at 11:30 so drainage won't be an issue.
