The Telegraph: Rickie Lambert’s new lease of life comes from living like a Saint

Great lad and a saints legend really.

Nice he sees coming to us as the turn in his career, turning point for the club that has worked out so well for both sides.

As ever, it will be Lambert to whom most Southampton fans turn. “That reaction I get is the best thing ever,” he says. “It drives me on. They look at me to help push the team forward to score goals and, seeing the belief in the fans’ faces, has given me the confidence to have done what I have done.”

Legend.

Agree with the above posts, SRL, one of the great and inspired signings in the clubs History.

Keegan has to be the most high profile, but I always felt Peter Shilton and the unsung hero, David Armstrong (Bald Eagle), were inspired signings.

I'm not particularly aware of an historic anti-Saints bias in the Telegraph and in any event, the article is about an individual player, although it does mention the effect that our management and sports science department has had on him.

Great interview if only it were true and not lies peddled out by lazy journalists. Plus Jeremy Wilson is a terrible jounrnalist known for his Saints bias.

Interesting comment towards the end.

"it doesn't matter who plays or who the manager is, th club has to play this way"

What are people's take on that? Seems to confirm the manager isn't fully in charge of tactics doesn't it.

Isn't it a reference to a passing philosophy?

Like barca will always play a certain way and west ham with their fans demanding free flowing football (haha)

Well someone must be deciding how we play and dictating it, it doesn't look like its the manager as by Lamberts admission it doesn't matter who the manager is......

Depends what you mean by tactics I guess. It's one thing the club having or developing a certain culture (which is what I think Lambert is getting at) and another for Adkins to get his tactical plan for each game handed to him with all the little diagrams on the whiteboard actually done by cortese or whoever

One thing that is clear is that Cortese should leave the football to those that know about it and stick to what he is good at, which is appointing communications and marketing directors.

Completely agree

That last paragraph nearly had me searching for a hanky!

Fair play to him for seizing his chance to make the changes required, and cement his name firmly into the rich history of our beloved Saints.
