Viking Warrior Posted 20 December, 2012 Posted 20 December, 2012 HOw many more investigations do we need on this. Its cost millions so far Soldiers involved in Bloody Sunday are to be questioned by police as part of a murder investigation into those who died in Londonderry in 1972. A team of 15 police officers will carry out the investigation. I dont see any enquiries about warren Point, hyde park , the mountabbeten murders and other atrocities various factions of the IRA committed and still commit oh and the UFV etc. but as usual the Politicians will hang out the soldiers. yet the likes of mguiness , adams and paisley get of scott free
The Kraken Posted 20 December, 2012 Posted 20 December, 2012 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".

The reason the soliders are being hung out to dry is very simple. It's all part of the surrender terms (sorry peace procees).
Saint in Paradise Posted 20 December, 2012 Posted 20 December, 2012 Politicians always seem to go for those least able to defend themselves. The older I have got the more I distrust any of the bas**rds, don't care which effing party they are in. Oh yes and they always really try and look after each other first. :x:x

Ekelund24 Posted 21 December, 2012 Posted 21 December, 2012 It's insane applying law and political will to an era that was completely different I think this is the defence to be used in the Jimmy Saville case!!
Thedelldays Posted 21 December, 2012 Posted 21 December, 2012 I think this is the defence to be used in the Jimmy Saville case!! its not the same is it... unless you think our soldiers then are no different to the likes of jimmy saville
buctootim Posted 21 December, 2012 Posted 21 December, 2012 (edited) its not the same is it... unless you think our soldiers then are no different to the likes of jimmy saville No they are different. Savile didnt kill 14 protestors and bystanders. Oddly enough it weas the Saville equiry which said this: "The firing by soldiers of 1 PARA on Bloody Sunday caused the deaths of 13 people and injury to a similar number, none of whom was posing a threat of causing death or serious injury.....the immediate responsibility for the deaths and injuries on Bloody Sunday lies with those members of Support Company whose unjustifiable firing was the cause of those deaths and injuries" Contrary to the previously established belief, that none of the soldiers fired in response to attacks by petrol bombers or stone throwers, and that the civilians were not posing any threat. Thedelldays Posted 21 December, 2012 Posted 21 December, 2012 No they are different. Savile didnt kill 14 protestors and bystanders. Of course, the current political climate has nothing to do with the recent decision about that day
swannymere Posted 21 December, 2012 Posted 21 December, 2012 Mountbatten was killed by MI5 to cover up Saville style questions.
buctootim Posted 21 December, 2012 Posted 21 December, 2012 Of course, the current political climate has nothing to do with the recent decision about that day If it hadnt been covered up at the time and dealt with openly arguably the massive upswing in support for the IRA would nver have happened and many lives on all sides would have been saved.

buctootim Posted 21 December, 2012 Posted 21 December, 2012 (edited) indeed..but I wonder how much political will was used to get the result in order to keep the peace process on track..... There was obviously political will to get the inquiry organised in response to pressure from NI - but that doesnt mean it wasnt needed or that the findings were skewed. You've got remember that 27 people were shot that day, many of them more than once. Thats not a single mistake by nervous rookie or a soldier picking the wrong target during a firefight in Afghanistan. Thats somebody taking aim at unarmed civilians more than 50 times. The whole point of democracy and a free society is that when there is an alomighty **** up someone is held to account. Otherwise you end up with Burma or North Korea Edited 21 December, 2012 by buctootim

Otherwise you end up with Burma or North Korea The problem I have with it all was the Saville enquiry was one sided appeasement of the republican side. There were 2 sets of people bearing arms that day, the British army, and the Ira. I find it sickening that the Brits face more charges and yetthe leader of the republicans that day, a man it is alledged fired the first shot, is made Education minister.
Viking Warrior Posted 22 December, 2012 Author Posted 22 December, 2012 were you there Buctoom? Views and peoples recollections have changed since the events on the days leading upto the bloody sunday. there have been tv dramas , films that have tainted peoples minds over the years, So while the saville report etc etc have one view it does not necessary give a cast iron prove of what happened. There were many top IRA guys that were present. there were other activities taking place in derry that day. it wasnt an isolated incident. It was very difficult to determine who was innoocent civilians and who were the IRA/ PIRA footsoldiers. Like the taliban they just blended into society "No they are different. Savile didnt kill 14 protestors and bystanders. Oddly enough it weas the Saville equiry which said this: "The firing by soldiers of 1 PARA on Bloody Sunday caused the deaths of 13 people and injury to a similar number, none of whom was posing a threat of causing death or serious injury.....the immediate responsibility for the deaths and injuries on Bloody Sunday lies with those members of Support Company whose unjustifiable firing was the cause of those deaths and injuries" Contrary to the previously established belief, that none of the soldiers fired in response to attacks by petrol bombers or stone throwers, and that the civilians were not posing any threat"
derry Posted 22 December, 2012 Posted 22 December, 2012 Forty years on does anyone even think the truth will come out. Two sides, innocents stuck in the middle, politicians etc. It's over let it go. The legend will live on depending which side of the line you stand on. Leave it there.
