Pointless Early 2013/14 Kit Speculation Thread

Chill out mate, it's just a shirt! I won't be buying it anyway, i'm happy with my sash kit still..

Yes, it's just a shirt. That's why the colours and style don't mean anything. I bet loads of Saints would buy royal blue shirts with white shorts and red socks too.

I won't be buying it, but that doesn't change that we'll still have to watch my team wear the fcking horrible thing that fails to represent the colours of our club for another year.

Or if you like, £13.50 from pretty much any teamwear retailer, the Adidas Tiro teamwear shirt, with only one bit of underarm arrow panel different :

Which explains why they've made the adidas logo gold on the actual shirt...

It's not as drastic as that though is it? Yes, it's a red shirt with white bits, and yes it's not really a Saints kit, but it's hardly a Cardiff style rebrand is it? We've not always played in red and white stripes and i'm sure we'll return to them at some point. If you're really that concerned then I suggest some kind of eco-warrior mission to the Adidas HQ.

How is it "not some kind of Cardiff-style rebrand"? We're now wearing the same colours as them for a start.

Cardiff's owners are idiots for their rebranding and it's hilarious what's happening to them and how much crap they'll put up with, but how is it any better that Saints' ownership haven't even SAID we're no longer a team that plays in stripes ? They just stick a shirt out there without any on it and assume people won't care.

Google Bullsh1t Rodeo.

As I have now seen what I am 95% sure is the home kit, and I'm 95% sure the away kit is black with a bit V and some gold trim I'm not sure what else there is to discuss.

The home kit is horrendous and once again not Saints, and proves the Chairman either has no idea what the fans want or simply does not give a toss, and the away kit might be alright in black with it's big V and gold bits but I'm now probably not buying it on principle. It is SO easy to get this right but they just do not care about bothering to maximise their income, and it is a strange way to run a football club.

Anyone want to buy a £10 Saints Store gift voucher ? I've had it since Christmas with nothing I want to spend it on...

Hello again everyone,

Just chipping in with some more info. I linked the "leaked" photo to my person at the club and asked if that was it. They replied "pretty much". I asked if the gold was right and I got a straight out yes. Also, to follow up from my last post, (although I think its been said already), following the collapse of the Lotus deal aap3 are back in and some people have lost their jobs over the whole debacle.

Again, just sharing what I know. Hope its of some interest.

Every kit is boring really. Or hideous or uninventive. Most kits are met by this in varying degrees these days.

Some, not many but some, would say stripes are dull. I personally don't mind change at all with our colours (red and white)

I have to say that leaked kit is by far the most exciting and revolutionary item of clothing I have ever seen.

Well done Saints on not doing dull stripes.

from what I hear on the grape vine from people who have seen the shirt that looks exactly as described , very poor effort really amazing to think people are employed professionally to produce stuff like this.

no doubt they'll spin stories such as "fastest selling kit" without producing any actual sales figures.

commercially the club is more blue square than champions league , club shop had tons of the old kit left in stock but never reduced it , very odd.

Considering all the great ideas us mere mortals have come up with on here, to be stuck with such a dull unimaginitive unrepresentative-of-Saints kit is really depressing, and hints that the management dont really give a f**k what we think.

Best thing to do, perhaps only thing to do, is to boycott buying of the shirt this season, and send the club a message through the revenue figures.

I wont be buying my 3 usual kids kits and possibly my adult shirt, if that kit is really confirmed.

Don't personally have a problem with red but gotta say this looks like a cheap and nasty template design. Oh and the gold is horrendous. I guess my kids will be waiting another year before their next Saints shirt.

I'm just hoping they've done something special with the away kit. At least we know it wont be white..

I bought the yellow for me and my sons when we had the herringbone stripes with the first aap3 kits.

The away kit, based on your description and itchen_dan's mock-up, sounds f**king awful too...

Aw, thats just b*ll*cks, Battleship Boy. How can you say this jizz-fest of a kit idea is boring or hideous ?

That blurry photo really isn't representative. Makes it look like a training top when I know for a fact that template looks a lot smarter in person. Having slept on the matter, if it matches Dan's mock-up from post #1424 then I'm happy enough.

Is there any metadata attached to this image? Like, a date?

No EXIF data present, but then if you were going to be responsible for a leak you probably would take the 5 seconds required to delete it.

If the overall kit looked like the 1985 one, with black shorts etc, then I could see it working. As it stands, it looks laughable. Well done to those who were ITK.

This all-red kit makes us look like a second-rate tin-pot side like Charlton or Swindon. I'm all for a variation of stripes as we did in the 1980s; sash would be perfect for a bit of individuality, but this is ****.

What an appaling kit. I love how Jamie comes on here every so often just to call the 9 sad or to say he doesn't care. Yes the 9 is a bit sad and obsessed but coming on here from time to time to continually tell him so is infinitely worse.

Any sadder than jumping on the Jamie bandwagon? Kinda agree though.

Time for a Facebook campaign to bring back the traditional blue shorts and blue socks we wore for 59 consecutive seasons between 1891 and 1950?

I wonder if there was uproar in 1950 when we changed from the traditional blue shorts/socks to what is now the tradition and black shorts with red/white socks.

If we wear a largely red shirt for the next 59 years, that will be our traditional shirt in the eyes of many in the year 2071.

I understand what you are saying, but the vast majority of the fanbase simply were not alive back then. Therefore the associated identity of the club is red/white shirts, black shorts and white/red socks.

In a club's history there is a transition point, for Saints with blue shorts and socks to black shorts and red/white socks it was 1950, for Leeds with an all white kit it was the 1960 etc etc. For Saints with an mainly red shirt perhaps it is 2012 and that will now become our "tradition" over the coming years.

So when people say they want 'traditional' stripes, they basically mean "this kit doesn't look like the ones from when I was younger"? It does seem a little strange to be so attached to some parts of our history only to completely disregard others.

I wasn't yet born in 1985, but the Draper Tools kit introduced that year was fairly similar to what we're getting and I can't imagine there was such a fuss then. We've always played around with the usage of white on our kits.

Not saying that I wouldn't prefer a striped kit, although I would say I was becoming slightly bored with variations on the same theme. Change isn't always for the worse, nor does it have to be permanent.

Which bits of our history are people suggesting we disregard?

No it won't. Why are you so happy for the club just just erase any tradition?

It's not eve like a plain red shirt is nice. Especially not anything like that leak, it's ****ing dreadful.
