Pointless Early 2013/14 Kit Speculation Thread

If we have stripes we look like Saints. That's it.

The "isn't it awful we look like like Stoke" routine is peddled almost exclusively by DellBatBrettmandays.

Yeah, stick your head in the sand. Some of you who are hung up on the whole stripes issue do talk some tosh. I know you're passionate about it but, irrespective of the badge and sponsor, we do look like Stoke, Sunderland, Exeter and any number of other teams that wear the same or similar colours. A fact exacerbated when Flybe thought it would be great to sponsor a load of teams with red and white stripes.

If you want to save stripes go for it, but don't let your passion cloud your judgement. I'm obviously not as hung up on stripes as many on here, I'd like something more individual, it's why I liked the sash so much. However, last season we looked like Liverpool/Forest so that isn't working either is it? And no I don't have a solution off the top of my head. Another thing that's important to me is quality, unfortunately the mock-up above looks like just another generic template design.

It's very unlikely that you're going to find a kit that it so unique that's it just ours. We still play in stripes and have for almost all our history.

We wear stripes - we look like Sunderland stoke Exeter brentford Sheffield Utd etc...

Play in plain red - we look like man utd, arsenal, Liverpool, Cardiff, and whoever else.

We should just stick with tradition, our NPC promotion kit was absolutely lovely, and no reason for us not to have proper stripes.

I am surprised how many people are just seeing these red kits and accepting them. Ok some of them are alright, but just not for us. We are Southampton, we play in stripes.

The kits have been chosen. They are just waiting to sign up a new sponsor.

The home kit will be a red shirt with white ends to the sleeves, with red shorts Based on the same design as the Bristol City and Hearts home shirts.

The away kit will be black with a deep v-neck white collar. Based on the same design as the Aberdeen home shirt.

The socks will be hooped.

The badge will be gold or silver.

The Bristol City and Hearts shirts are nothing like each other - although they are both pretty naff in their own individual way.

The Arsenal-stylee mock-up above is also pretty gross, got a feeling this isn't going to end well .....

I accept that we have played in stripes for most of our history but some of our past kits could only ever have been loosely termed so. Many people on here love the Xerox/Air Florida kit. You could argue that it was stripes but at some point a stripe becomes so wide it ain't a stripe no more. I wonder if it's the period in our history that is attached with it that makes it such a favourite? If this place had existed back then for that kit's launch I can easily imagine the history brigade being up in arms at how it just isn't isn't proper stripes!

The thing is, you can at least argue that it's linked to stripes. Even last years you can say it was still clinging into the stripes.

If we go to a plain red shirt, in no way at all can you attach it to being stripes. It's just another dull boring plain shirt which isn't ours.

That's just grasping at straws. It's either striped or it ain't.

If NC and ML hadn't rescued us from going out of existence, all we would have had would have been our history, no future. Some great players and managers and some superb results, but hardly the most illustrious to look back on. If NC and ML planned to change the strip to all red, maybe to be more Swiss, I wouldn't complain. If that's the price for everything that's happened since they took over it's fine with me. It's not like a completely different colour, like Cardiff.

However, what does **** me off is the fact that it's just sprung on us. At least Cardiff's new owners had the decency to let the fans know what was coming.

What like 2? Us and Exeter. Don't let their sponsorship of Birmingham, Norwich and Inverness Cally cloud your thinking. More about airports than kit.

So Ajax can't make changes to their collars or stitching panels then?

Love your list of earth shattering changes that Liverpool have made to their kits over the years. Kinda proves my point that they've been in the same kit season in, season out.

Yeah, Ajax can, and obviously do vary things annually, but the fundamental basic design HAS to be white with a broad red stripe on the front. Not a narrow one, or one season in all red, or a couple of different types of stripe, etc. They have far less scope for change.

Liverpool is similar, but they can at least add the odd bit of white somewhere to mix it up a bit - and of course based on last season's Saints kit, some people on here would have you believe they played in red and white stripes for the first half of the 80s.

It's not even close to accurate either, as Stoke wear white shorts and socks, and Saints have never worn both of those at the same time as a home kit... except once, against Chelsea in the FA Cup last season when the shirt wasn't striped* anyway.

*see above re "pinstripes = stripes" argument.

So, just to recap, for the home shirt, from our ITKers we now have :

Two schools of thought re: sleeve colour (red or white)

Two schools of thought re: badge (traditional or gold "outline" style)

Two schools of thought re: shirt sponsor (aap3 or "someone else")

And even two schools of thought re: whether it looks like a crappy adidas teamwear shirt or not. But I'm pretty sure the latter are in the minority on the last one).

Sorry thought there were two other than us. However it is a small aspect of the point I was trying to make so no need to get all MLG on my ass.

Bloody hope not that is effin terrible

Hehe, I do actually agree.

The yellow with blue, and black with gold, 'away' versions were even worse, not worth rendering to a jpeg.

But did you like the way I used an old school instagram-ish effect on it? That was the most important bit. And the 70s disco font for the sponsor.

Oh and I'd wear it; but I am both sartorially inelegant and easily pleased.

danbsfc: Hi @adidasUK, are we any closer to a reveal of the new #SaintsFC kit? Was told there would be a date in June but still all quiet...

adidasUK: @danbsfc nothing yet Dan! Later this month we should have news, stay tuned!

Not too long to go it seems.

I was in the aap3 box for the Reading game before Christmas and chatting to the lady who holds the stakeholder relationship with Saints and asked about next season. She said they weren't renewing the shirt sponsorship but would continue to sponsor the Saints charity and other areas of the club. At that time she said they were talks ongoing with other large well known companies in the area as their Directors had been involved in early discussions.

If I had to guess I would say P&O but that is only a guess from the information she gave. They have been very active in the local promoting the area. I guess we will know in the next few weeks.

There's a major problem with stripes. However much you vary the shirt with different collars and the shape of the stripes, the fans can get away with wearing an old shirt that still looks similar to the latest version. So having stripes allows some fans to avoid having their pockets picked for another over-priced shirt every season. Teams in the Premier League are so hard-pressed for cash that they need every penny they can screw out of their fans and lets not forget that buying a new shirt every year allows fans to donate towards the miserable wages of Premier League players.

What and that's not the case for block colours?!

what about teams that play in all red and all blue, how much can they vary a shirt? We have done quite alot with the concept of 'stripes' over the years

Still absolutely love the rank xerox mock up on here, would buy that in a heartbeat

Are we allowed multiple shirt sponsors in the Prem?

Not in the sense that you can have more than one sponsor in the FL. You're allowed kit company branding, the club logo, plus one sponsor logo of an agreed maximum size on the front of the shirt.

As I mentioned above when discussing the Ajax kit, having stripes is actually the easiest way of having multiple versions of the same theme, it's the other teams that are going to have problems looking "samey" - not that it stops some people buying everything anyway.

What the **** is that?

It's my mock up runthrough instagram with a suitably lazy 3 stripe pattern slapped onto the front of it and Flares-style sponsor logo overlaid. Oh, and the cuffs changed to white. Must remember to sneakily slide my name into the shirt pattern somewhere next time. :D

Sorry The9, just grabbed the nearest red shirt to put the lines on. Didn't think you mind as it was for a joke on this forum! (I guess referencing the ****ty graphic that announced the Adidas deal on the OS, has been lost. Not that it was a good gag, but hey!)

FYI there are a couple of shirt ideas for other teams doing the rounds that are also using your original mock up!

Tbh, I don't think it's Adidas'd problem that we're not in stripes. It's clearly a demand from the club that we don't want stripes. The Adidas striped kits are fine, just the club doesn't want them

Still think the Montreal kit in Red and White would be a great kit.

Completely agree, that kit in red and white would be excellent
