Pointless Early 2013/14 Kit Speculation Thread

What makes anyone think that Cortese would ever consider going back to Red & White stripes ??

Don't think so IMHO

Would be a 100% change of direction, ie from red back to stripes

(I know people argue that last seasons was "stripes", but, the white quarter inch is NOT what Saints fans call a stripe )

At a distance, it looked plain red

What makes anyone think it wasn't just a one off to sell more shirts, seeing as that was the theory widely circulated at the time ?

I mean I have my suspicions that we're stuck with red with tiny white bits, but as yet there's nothing tangible to say otherwise.

Why not flip the colours so it's mainly white with two red stripes?

Because Stoke play in predominantly white, so if you're trying to make it not look like a Stoke kit, increasing the amount of white is probably a bad idea.

We don't look like Stoke when we wear stripes, we look like Sunderland (and vice versa).

FWIW, the "Xerox" style mock-up needs a couple of white stripes down the side, or it's not "stripes" - the original had them, it might have been a broad stripe on the front but there were two thinner ones at the side. Without those, it's just "a broad stripe".

Really liked the Argentina template one, needed a bit more black, but like the design.

We've not had any legit ITK leaks for a while, anyone heard anything ? We seem to have a few conflicting opinions at the moment regarding shirt releases and sign off, etc.

Did some digging over the weekend, no idea if this is new info or already known but from what I was told by someone within the club - Definitely new Sponsors. aap3 simply cannot afford it. Was all set to be Lotus but they pulled out due to some kind of disagreement. Although nothing is set in stone the aim is for the kit launch to be 1st July.

Anyway, that's all I was told. They didn't know anything certain about the design but did seem to think (in their opinion) that it would NOT be stripes and will be all red again.

Just passing this on. Hope its of some interest.

Would certainty tally with what i heard on Friday that no new sponsor was confirmed - for whatever reason - and that the shirts had therefore not started production (as I posted on Friday on here).

Also Lotus is in line with the F1 team rumour

Lotus Cars and Lotus F1 (Genii Capital) are separate entirely as far as I know?

That is a discussion for another place I feel. The ownership of the Lotus branding is a massively complex and tedious thing.

Nonetheless a confussion/association in someones mind of an 'F1' team sponsoring us if it was to be Lotus cars is understandable.

We launched last season skit on 29th june so the timing makes sense. MP also said he ideally wanted all new signings in place by 1st July. Maybe 1st July is going to be a wave of breaking news on the OS:)

I really can't wait for an end to the dodgy exploit the poor style company sponsorship. I'd be gutted if our club had one.

At least Bolton rebelled. Cash Converters are at least an old fashioned style pawn shop - The pay day loan thing they have bought in does back up your point though.

Was astonished this weekend. During a meeting with a mortgage advisor she revealed that if you have ever had a pay day loan then you will be denied a mortgage.... regardless of income level and other credit history. Some of the firms actually advertise themselves as a chance to increase your credit rating by showing you can pay off a small sum.... it's a total con!

While fans can't choose the sponsor, and protests might not always work, I'm amazed that any fans buy these Wonga-type shirts. I wouldn't be seen dead in one.

On another note, I contacted the club about retro shirts in the club store and was told they don't make them in Small. That's a bit odd isn't it? Especially when the Medium is really quite large. Are we only catering to the fat fans now?

Its known as the Alpine effect.

It appears Cisse at Newcastle is seemingly reluctant to wear the new barcodes shirt with WONGA as sponsor due to religious beliefs.

Would be great if he was successful and wore a sponsorless shirt for matches.

Put some weight on.

So there is a good chance we getting a red version of this? :(

I'd say it's unlikely, Hull's deal, like Bolton's and Hearts', is a second-tier teamwear-type thing, they usually get the kit from a local distributor not "adidas" directly, and they only get to pick from the same sort of kits that parks teams can have as a result.

I'd hope our deal was on a par with West Ham's, bespoke tweaks to a worldwide template, not just a badge stitched onto a teamwear kit.

probably been posted fifty times already

Actually this was posted months ago, then a few pages back someone posted a different Milan shirt and it got a bit confusing for a while. It's still not massively clear, as the shirt to the left of the Milan "leak" is Chelsea's away from last season and the shirt to the right is Real's home from last season, and BOTH those shirts have already been replaced. So... who knows. Neither of the Milan leaks look particularly like other adidas styles that are around.

Do we know for certain our relationship with Adidas is at a higher level than Hull? Our version of the "..are all in" ad was cheaper and nastier than some of those other clubs. Not convinced Adidas see us as some global strategic partner.

Wonga aside, I saw that grey/blue Puma Newcastle away shirt in SportsDirect the other day and it is VERY well made, it's got that soft cloth feel to it I really liked on some of the recent England kits.

As for the retro shirts, the Score Draw one of the (sponsorless) Rank Xerox style was only in XL back in the early 90s, and that XL was absolutely mahoosive as well. Even having mediums is progress.

To be honest having seen that Sunderland's away kit is the same template as Hull's I've changed my mind and am now wondering if we will be getting that as the away kit - until then I had it down as a teamwear template away or third (as it is for West Ham), but it's only Stoke's decent away (same as Chelsea home) that's stopping me thinking they're using the same template for everyone's away.

I don't think adidas see us as a global strategic partner either, but they are at least getting us a nice new shop, it seems. Plus we are signing the deal as a Prem club (like Stoke and Sunderland and West Ham), Hull started theirs a couple of seasons ago in the Championship, as did Bolton.
