Pointless Early 2013/14 Kit Speculation Thread

The black kit looked sh!t because it was sh!t. The club had a great opportunity to make a really nice away kit with no sponsor and failed miserably.

FWIW, I think the majority of Nike kits are atrocious.

I think the majority of current Nike kits are terribly dull, with about 90% based on a plain colour with contrast sleeves and no colour contrast other than that, all using the same basic template, and their laziness in also rolling out 4 year old teamwear designs for professional clubs is completely ridiculous.

Here's the 2013/14 Basel shirt, for those of you who have been waiting on it so you can see what a halved shirt would look like - it's also the "other" arrows under armpits kit that could be a template for the home shirt, and shows the different material piece shapes nicely.

Oh and FWIW, I don't know what Steve Grant has been doing to the Southampton IFC (Fans' team) kit when he gets it washed after matches, but I reckon it's been worn about 3 times total in the past 12 months since we got it (the last striped kit), and the aap3 logos are all showing the red stripe through the sponsor's logo and "shadowing" where you can see the glue on the logo all around it. Meanwhile, my Saints kit from that season, which is about a year older, is still in perfect nick. I think someone, or someone's launderette, having been blitzing the buggers on 80 degrees.

Is it just me that thinks most of the adidas kits aren't that great, certainly miles behind the nike ones?

Nope. Can't stand them. They all look so regimented and over branded. The three stripes on shorts, shirts and socks is far too much. The newer, I'd say ugly logo, slapped in the middle of the shirt sucks. It's all subjective though. I think the current white shirt is right up there as our best ever kit behind the last striped shirt with the gold trim and I hated the sash and think the Xerox kit is actually crap and that people's nostagia gets the better of them. As I said, its all subjective.

What makes anyone think that Cortese would ever consider going back to Red & White stripes ??

Don't think so IMHO

Would be a 100% change of direction, ie from red back to stripes

(I know people argue that last seasons was "stripes", but, the white quarter inch is NOT what Saints fans call a stripe )

At a distance, it looked plain red

Looks too much like a Stoke kit to me. Still like it though.

First team I thought of when I saw that kit above was Stoke

What would Adidas have to do to a red and white striped shirt for it to be a "Southampton kit" and not "Stoke kit"? Putting a Southampton badge on it is about it.

That's lovely. Pure and simple. Good even stripes, nothing too fancy, just nice and simple r+w stripes. Would be very happy with that even though it prob won be that!

Since Cortese had come in we've had

2010 - Stripes

2011- Sash

2012 - Stripes

2013 - Red (minuscule pinstripes)

2014....Stripes...?

The fact that we've had them for the majority of his time here. I also seem to remember that the press release for this season's kit mentioned that it was a special kit to commemorate our return to the top flight, something like that. So it might yet be a one-off, we'll have to wait and see.

I don't care what anyone says, that is a lovely kit above. We won't be having it though :(

its nice... the red is a little bright. what about with a deeper red. almost blood red?!

i would like something traditional for the home kit, but quite open to something kinda 'out there' for an away kit. not horrible 80s business like liverpool's, but maybe something a bit more Risqué ??!!! maybe something like what the french teams have etc.

thoughts??

Why not flip the colours so it's mainly white with two red stripes?

We can have whatever anyone wants for the away kit. Home should be red and white stripes though.

I always think of a classic Saints kit as having black pinstripes between the red and white stripes but that's probably just me.

Then, with a nod to our history, it should be a Rank Xerox kit to represent the pinnacle of our achievement last time round, and to set the bar for this time.
