Pointless Early 2013/14 Kit Speculation Thread

At first I didn't mind the design but after seeing this, taken from a recent celebrity & ex-pros charity match, seeing the kit being worn I really hope we stay well clear if that design - it's awful

Nice spot - the fact that's a straight up template is what makes me think we'll have red panels not white on the sleeves if we have that style.

Like those a lot ... How would people feel about horizontal stripes/hoops for a season?

I love that Flamengo shirt, but would just be vaguely annoyed if Saints wore it (or a red/white version) for a home kit. Stripes please, it's not a difficult thing to do.

Would anyone with a modicum of photoshop ability adapt the above mock-up with a red bull logo please? ;)

Nope, but at least it gives us something to flap about other than just the kit probably being sh01te, we can lose the entire identity of the club - if there's anything whatsoever in the rumour, of course. :)

huqaqu9e.jpg a version of this in red?

Old template, and the advert size wouldn't be allowed by Premier League rules. But other than that... ;)

Booo.... :p

Yeah, I'm not going to start running around panicking about this one until there's something more tangible than a few random rumours, this one did the rounds about 4 years ago too.

Well ALL of the kits on this thread are 100% wrong

More controversially...can someone mock up a hybrid Saints/Red Bull crest?!

It's not difficult, just take every other Red Bulls FC badge and replace the location with "Southampton" or "Saints".

Posted
God their badges really do overwhelm the kit don't they. Would they sponsor a club without getting more involved, i.e. club name and stadium name? Would mean a lot of money and branding. It's not such a big deal for us is it? 'Southampton' becomes 'Southampton Red Bulls', still known to everyone as Southampton or Saints. Far worse if you have a more unique name like Casino Salzburg. Like someone else said, surprised Red Bull haven't entered the EPL before though, so could definitely happen, and we have an ambitious chairman with no regard for tradition.

Also, someone said we should be linking up with an MLS club or setting one up like Man City, but a Red Bull move could bring ties to an existing big MLS club.

They wouldn't be able to use the logo that size in the Prem, hence my linking of the (smaller logo) Leipzig kit.

Not even the right manufacturer ? :D

Couldn't comment on that, but from what I do know, they're incorrect.

You said "100% wrong", which would mean the manufacturer was wrong, colours/style wrong and even the Saints badge used was wrong.

Get a life. It's clear what he meant

Mm, but being "slightly out" is not the same as "100% incorrect", is it ? They're only intended to be best guesses based on the following information :

1) adidas

2) mainly red

3) aap3 sponsor

4) white "arrows"

There are a few logic jumps - but as there are only 3 adidas templates in use (two of which have "arrow" shaped pieces underarm), and that rumour seems fairly solid, it can't be far off... or can it ?

Posted
It is to everyone but you.

No, you are wrong there. To me "100% wrong" means everything about the shirt is wrong. So it's not red, or made by adidas ? I'd have to check back through, but it might have been SO16 who said it was in the first place...

Maybe that is what he means but he clearly does not mean the badge is wrong. He means from what he has seen the design is wrong.

Ok....not one of the kits in the thread are correct, as shown

Well that wasn't clear, because he used the phrase "100% wrong".

If it was "100% wrong" it would mean everything about it was different.

I think that most people could understand that is what you were saying from your original comment. MLG reminds me of Spock.

Posted (edited)

Yeah, knowing when to leave it is not in MLG's skillset. WE GET IT, point made (numerous times) !

So, I've just had a check back through and no, SO16_Saint was not the one who said anything about the design - other than it not being signed off by 15 May and that there WILL be a change in sponsor for the new kit (not next year as originally contracted)... and casually dropping a pic of the Red Bull kits into this thread.

Actually saintquin I think it was said "It will be solid red with something that looks like arrows under the arm. The away kit will be the same but black" in post 393 and Tom28 said "Looks like the cat is out the bag anyway... Adidas Solid Red home kit. Black and Gold away kit.".

Saintquin has 60 posts across years, though last summer did ask why the kit was being replaced after one season, so... hmmmm...

Which one has come closest? Cheers :)

Pretty sure from what's been said previously that the aap3 sponsor could be changing, and that's been on all (but one) of the mock-ups so far.

Could you put this into a percentage please? Makes it easier for everyone to understand.

Got the impression that its costing aap3 too much money to continue with us as they had no idea we would get back to back promotions.

Not so much as us buying them out but aap3 pulling out.

I get fed up wtih people banging on bout heritage and demanding stripes. I want us to wear a miss Southampton kit next year... THAT KIT WAS AMAZING. Even watching it now I think how stylish we looked when we played our samba league 1 football! I also think that most people who bought this years kit are selling out the clubs traditions. The last good kit we had was the championship one last year! This years is a disturbing non entity.

Would that be a bikini and a tiara?

So... you want a sash kit which is based on the club's heritage, but get fed up with people and going on about heritage and wanting stripes, but agree that this year's non-striped kit is disturbing and people who bought it are selling out the club's tradition, and the last good kit was striped.

I think I followed that quite well.

Well, I still like this one. I'd be more than happy if it was like this but it's very unlikely.

Some said it looked like a training top but if it had a little more detail, such as on the white elastic on the neck and sleeves, it could look even better.

Biggest criticism is that there's too much white in it. Chuck in a red collar and it might work. Pipe dream anyway; I'm preparing for the idea that we're going to have another cr*p all red outfit, and hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I'm in the same camp tbh.

You're not the only one. Though I think it's a tossup between plain red and that dreary white thing reposted above.

Everything's relative though, it all beats a RedBull rebrand. :shakey:

Why are they selling the current home kit at full price if we are due a new shirt in the next few weeks?

Genius marketing, obviously. Like selling off the yellow shirt cheap last summer then realising we'd need a third kit this season which in the end we wore about three times as often as the away kit and not actually making it available for anyone to buy this season.

They haven't dropped the price of the white kit either, despite it selling (apparently), remarkably few units. Though they have sold out of the white socks, which suggests low stock levels on those. :D

The clubs head of retail also just started following adidas and adidas uk on twitter. Though he has only tweeted once the boring git. That was about adidas too!

Some Argie team with adidas and red and white stripes. Looks OK to me.

See post #84. It's Estudiantes, btw.
