LVSaint Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 (edited) Dj Shadow and da Cut Chemist Renegades of Rhythm Tour put on a splendid old skool hip hop turntablist show last night showcasing Afrika Baambaataa's record collection. I want a new Shadow album right now! Edited 30 September, 2014 by LVSaint
The Cat Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Caught alt-J in Brighton last night and they were excellent. The new CD will see them become a major band this year. I saw them a couple of years ago in a rammed festival tent before they won the Mercury. Had heard the hype but walked out after 2 songs because I thought they were terrible. Their new album has been panned by Pitchfork which means they'll probably now disappear into the obscurity they deserve.

Said they were really great at Ally Pally last week. Saw Honeyblood at Sebright Arms last week, they were very enjoyable. They've got a good sound for just the two of them. had a brief chat with them after, v nice girls. Got v last minute tickets to The Libs on Sat. Have to say they were really good. Taking the gf to see Jessie Ware on thursday (to be fair I do quite like her too), then Karen O on Saturday. I can't afford all these gigs. Also had to turn down a Kate Bush ticket (for free) last week. I'm still not over this.
Lets B Avenue Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Also had to turn down a Kate Bush ticket (for free) last week. I'm still not over this. WTF??????!!!!!!!! :mcinnes:
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 30 September, 2014 Author Posted 30 September, 2014 WTF??????!!!!!!!! :mcinnes: Yeah I know. Had commitments I couldn't get out of. Still pretty gutted about this. It will be used as leverage for the rest of ever.
The Cat Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Yeah I know. Had commitments I couldn't get out of. Still pretty gutted about this. It will be used as my reason to get anal for the rest of ever. That's better.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 30 September, 2014 Author Posted 30 September, 2014 That's better. Fair play, that made me lol.
Maggie May Posted 1 October, 2014 Posted 1 October, 2014 Their new album has been panned by Pitchfork which means they'll probably now disappear into the obscurity they deserve. Their debut was panned too, so I doubt it'll do too much harm in this country considering they are on Radio 1 every ten minutes. Saw Syd Arthur last night - decent.
Jonnyboy Posted 1 October, 2014 Posted 1 October, 2014 Fair play, that made me lol. Most women find it painful.
Miffy Posted 2 October, 2014 Posted 2 October, 2014 Kate Bush last week. Fish at The Brook last night. Completely different experiences but both excellent in their own ways.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 6 October, 2014 Author Posted 6 October, 2014 So, Jessie Ware at Hackney Church. She's just really good. Cracking voice, good performer and a really likeable character. Confirmed by a colleague that went to school with her and still keeps in contact with her and lives on the same street - a bit irrelevant but hey nice to know. Karen-O at Bush Hall on Saturday. It was an odd one. Gigs are always a bit odd here, it's a really cool little venue. But it's dance hall past with carpet, chandeliers and coving on the walls give it an odd feel. As it was, it suited the show perfectly. The show was to go alongside the release of Karen's 'Crush Songs' album, which is quite different from the YYY's stuff. It's quiet, acoustic and pretty slow. I really enjoyed it, her voice is amazing and even without all her usual antics she was really captivating. I came out the gig feeling really relaxed and at peace. Which is a strange experience for me, but an enjoyable one none the less.
The Cat Posted 7 October, 2014 Posted 7 October, 2014 I like Bush Hall. Went to see The Aliens there 5 years or so ago, they finished the set by lobbing hundreds of glow sticks into the crowd which were then thrown about through the encore. Childhood at the Joiners tonight. First time I've been down there in a long while. Heads up for anyone that likes Sleaford Mods, they've just been booked to play there in March.
The Cat Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 The Wytches were ear splitting at the Joiners last night. Excellent gig slightly marred by someone jumping up to turn on an air con unit that probably hadn't been used in 5 years which promptly spluttered out water droplets everywhere. Give it a few days and people will be queuing up at A&E with the symptoms of Legionnaires disease.
miserableoldgit Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 It won't interest all you young hipsters on here but saw the great James Taylor at the sold out B.I.C. a couple of weeks ago. Seeing the equally brilliant Jackson Browne at the Royal Albert Hall in a few weeks. Also will be seeing Show of Hands and Oysterband at Salisbury City Hall and St Agnes Fountain at Fareham Ashcroft all before Christmas. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

The Cat Posted 18 October, 2014 Posted 18 October, 2014 All are welcome here friend. Indeed. I hope I'm still going to gigs when I'm a (more) miserableold(er)git

miserableoldgit Posted 18 October, 2014 Posted 18 October, 2014 I love music. I particularly love traditional folk/acoustic music and 70's singer/songwriters (James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill etc) but there is no music that I dislike....except rap/hip hop! I will be going to gigs/festivals as long as I have breath! Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

GaleLeTissier Posted 26 October, 2014 Posted 26 October, 2014 Jamie T at guildhall on halloween! Courteeners at guildhall in few weeks! And Circa waves (gonna be big) at joiners in a few weeks :-)
trousers Posted 29 October, 2014 Posted 29 October, 2014 Went to see Holly Johnson in Camden last night. Transported me back 30 years. Stonking evening [video=youtube_share;V6ZnthpeESU]http://youtu.be/V6ZnthpeESU
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 3 November, 2014 Author Posted 3 November, 2014 Went to Nightmare Festival on Saturday in Camden. Basically bought the ticket for Blood Red Shoes (who smashed it). Also really enjoyed Howling Bells who were on before, I may now be a little in love with the front woman too. Absolute sucker for girls with guitars.
BadgerBadger Posted 11 November, 2014 Posted 11 November, 2014 Anyone get to the Band of Skulls gig Sat at the Guildhall, good band ruined by a venue with car crash acoustics but still an enjoyable evening.
Lets B Avenue Posted 11 November, 2014 Posted 11 November, 2014 Anyone get to the Band of Skulls gig Sat at the Guildhall, good band ruined by a venue with car crash acoustics but still an enjoyable evening. I was there. In my experience the sound is marginally better right at the back, so we stayed there. Thought they were in good form.
The Cat Posted 11 November, 2014 Posted 11 November, 2014 The Guildhall has awful acoustics which is why hardly any bands play there twice. Hopefully the richness of sound that War On Drugs have live will negate it when they play in Feb. I saw Jeff Tweedy at London Palladium last week. He was on top form as usual. Props to that venue for having the most expensive beer I have ever seen. £5 for a can of Stella. Wow.

Going to take the Mother as her (early) xmas pressie. I'm the best son. Seeing Damon Albarn on Saturday. Should be interesting.

The Cat Posted 11 November, 2014 Posted 11 November, 2014 Standing? Work permitting we hope to be up there a bit early so cold meet for a pint. I'll probably give the support band a swerve in favour of cheaper and better beer in the pub too.

I'll probably give the support band a swerve in favour of cheaper and better beer in the pub too. Yeah standing, can't stand seated. Especially after being told to sit down when The Mac played The Chain last year. Speaking of which... Just bagged myself 2 Fleetwood Mac tickets. Please with that. Ace, very jealous. Saw them at the o2 last year and they were great. Just a shame about the effing boring and annoying gits telling me off for not sitting still when they played The Chain (or anything else).
GaleLeTissier Posted 14 November, 2014 Posted 14 November, 2014 Courteeners and blossoms tonight at guildhall
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 19 November, 2014 Author Posted 19 November, 2014 Saw Damon Albarn at the Royal Albert Hall the other night. Wasn't too sure what to expect, but it was really good fun. Hits from the full spectrum of his catalogue and plenty of his pals (Brian Eno, De la Soul, Kano & of course Graham Coxon). Off to see Jack White tonight, pretty excited. Should be a good'un.
Cascadia Saint Posted 21 November, 2014 Posted 21 November, 2014 Carter USM playing their last ever gigs tonight and tomorrow, managed to get a ticket but had to sell it when I finally gave up hope of getting back over for it...
The Cat Posted 24 November, 2014 Posted 24 November, 2014 Jim Noir at the Joiners tomorrow. Mate had a spare ticket so said I'd go. Haven't heard any of his music for years so not entirely sure what it will be like.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 November, 2014 Author Posted 24 November, 2014 Mastodon at the guildhall tonight. Ah man, I love Mastodon. How was it?
The Cat Posted 24 November, 2014 Posted 24 November, 2014 Mastodon spent Friday night drinking in the Rockstone.
miserableoldgit Posted 26 November, 2014 Posted 26 November, 2014 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/live-music-reviews/11250098/Jackson-Browne-Royal-Albert-Hall-review-shimmering.html Brilliant, brilliant night.... Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Huffton Posted 27 November, 2014 Posted 27 November, 2014 Ah man, I love Mastodon. How was it? As good as it was going to be given the Guildhalls sound quality!
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 27 November, 2014 Author Posted 27 November, 2014 As good as it was going to be given the Guildhalls sound quality! That bad, eh? I've never been, not (and never have been) a resident of Southampton. Shame.
Saint Garrett Posted 27 November, 2014 Posted 27 November, 2014 Saw Kasabian for the fifth time on Tuesday night in Bournemouth. They're brilliant live!
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 1 December, 2014 Author Posted 1 December, 2014 Off to Cloud Nothings (again) tonight in Camden. Hopefully the trains won't be too messed up (thanks again TFL). Not keen on Monday night gigs tbh. Oh well, I'll live I'm sure.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 1 December, 2014 Posted 1 December, 2014 Went to O2 last Monday to see Linkin Park. Pretty impressed, very tight live.
The Cat Posted 2 December, 2014 Posted 2 December, 2014 Went to O2 last Monday to see Linkin Park. Pretty impressed, very tight live. Even my 9yo thinks they're **** and he's about the age group they aim for.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 2 December, 2014 Posted 2 December, 2014 Even my 9yo thinks they're **** and he's about the age group they aim for. I'd expect him to think they're ****. If you let him listen to them with all the bad language they use then I have to call your lax parenting into question. He's at junior school.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 2 December, 2014 Author Posted 2 December, 2014 There's a 13 year old in side me pretty jealous of you UJ. Christ I was an angsty little git. Edit, thinking bout it I was probably younger than that.

Edit, thinking bout it I was probably younger than that. I got the tickets free. Was never a massive fan really, although enjoyed the Collision Course album with Jay Z. Saying that, I'd still happily go see System of a Down, Iron Maiden and Rage if i got the chance...my teenage angst favourites.
