Depends, good for clubs with packed schedules, probably good for players, not so good for fans.

Anyway everybody knows how Wenger hates the Christmas and New Year schedules, just needs a butterfly to sneeze in Amazonia for him to be wanting to postpone matches.

I cannot wait til the greedy, opportunistic b@stard drives are made obsolete and replaced by machines.

At every chance they attempt to leverage their position by striking on days they know are going to affect people most.

Frankly, their jobs are already pretty cushy - especially compared to many others out there.

Scum, the lot of them.

Bring back Maggie.

I reckon Boxing Day is probably the quietest day on the tube network, so it is more a case of them just wanting a day off, same as when they strike and it coincides with a major football match, or a really hot Summers day.

The second highlighted bit I 100% agree with.

Half of London's retails outlets (not an official figure) have been pleading with the union to not do this as they are all planning on starting sales on this day.

Shops were predicting a huge rush, and hoping to make up for a bad year.

Then the unions struck.

I read the articles and when I read this :-

It will be the third successive Christmas walkout by Tube drivers.

The move was announced after Aslef members voted by 9-1 in favour of strikes. A spokesman said: 'The ballot result shows the strength of feeling that remains on this issue.'

I though, yep they want a day off.

Sort of like turkies voting for Christmas IYKWIM

So do we postpone the New Years day game at home as I am sure there will be no buses etc. running.

Would be best if Boxing day and New Years day games were canceled every year with poor transport available.

Let all the people providing transport and the footballers have a day off.

Waiting for all the what about the nurses etc. etc. posts to follow :)

The members voted 9 to 1 in favour of action in a democratic ballot. Unions aren't allowed to hold strikes without them.

Everyone gets paid more for working a BH why not them ??

Because they agreed to a deal that gave them a huge pay rise, extra benefits and bank holidays remained ordinary days (Something like that -Trying to remember from last year) Now they want to go back on that deal, kso every year they just pull this stunt for an extra holiday.

Without wanting to get involved in the rights and wrongs of the situation (don't know the detail) it's hardly surprising they would strike on a day that would cause maximum publicity.... they'd be pretty stupid not to really.

We get 53 days leave, which is already nearly twice what most people get in a year. there'z no excuse for trying to get anything extra for Boxing Day.

Give us more money!

IT's ASLEF not RMT. (I know it was a joke!) We're not striking, it's just a minority of train operators. It annoys me because I'll be in on Boxing Day, and them striking makes the rest of LUL staff's day that much more difficult. FWIW my manager told me today that the Piccadilly Line hasn't got many ASLEF drivers, and from previous years, them striking hasn't made tooooooo much difference. They're obviously doing it so that they can get a day off, it's pretty obvious, and they'll do it every year until LUL gives in to their demands. Which they won't. So it will continue to happen. As long as RMT and TSSA don't start following suit there should be a pretty good service.

South West Trains are running a Sunday service on New Years Day, so trains should be OK. BlueStar aren't running any buses, though.

So the 'Posers' of the Prem are not greedy opportunistic b@stards then? Compare the average National Wage with some of these so-called Stars and Nurses,Binmen,Sewer Workers,Bus and Train Drivers have every right to endeavour to get an increase. If you want Maggie back go up North to the closed coalfields and say it. Bet you don't get back to the 'Soft South'!!!!!

Usually when there is a strike there is very little noticeable difference to the service, can't see Boxing day being too much of a problem.

I'm originally from Yorkshire, and lived in Leeds for four years up until last summer. So I'm fairly sure I know the deal there.

What have Premiership players got to do with the tube striking?? You've kind of missed the point entirely haven't you?

These are the same group of people that demand extra money for doing their job at every given opportunity, and then threaten to strike at times when they can affect as many people as possible. Remember all that crap about the Olympics? How many other people working in London got paid bonuses for doing their job when that was on? I certainly didn't. And I don't know anyone else, including other TFL workers that did.

Do a little bit more research bub, for public sector workers, train drivers have got in cushty. Get paid WAY more than many other public sector workers, especially those with comparative skills, education or training - for example nurses. They are not even comparable in terms of pay to nurses, bin men or sewer workers.

So really, you have offered nothing to this. But yeah, top marks for trying.

So wheel your neck in, and enough of the indirect threats. I'm from Yorkshire, and have no problem telling fellow Yorkshiremen that Maggie could sort out the unions again.

Well, those of you who work in London would no doubt prefer a strike on a working day, rather than Boxing Day when most travel is non-essential.

You don't get paid if you go on strike so it would make sense to pay decent overtime for a day like Boxing Day which no one with family wants to work, since then you'd be losing more money, plus all those short of money would even volunteer..

So you're blithely unaware that the share of national wealth taken by workers as opposed to capital has greatly reduced over the last 30/40 years. Unless you are a land-owning, moneyed Tory your well-being will have been affected by this, but perhaps you like being shat upon by the elites..

I'm 100% aware that during 13 years of labour govt this gap rose every single year. It ent just them damn nasty nasty Tories. They are all just as bad as each other.

Funny what happens with a clearly bombastic, tongue in cheek comment. Anyway, isn't this a football board?

What do you define as decent overtime. I seem to recall them asking for triple time AND a day in lieu. When you consider they already get 53 days off a year and over £50k, people cannot be blamed for lacking sympathy.

A scab who ooks after himself, a thatcherite love child, this bell sounds like he wants a race to the bottom, up the workers they have the balls to go for it, they are in a strong Union, fair play to them, since when has there been a comphrehensive rail service on Boxing day anyway? The railways should be shut as they always used to be, and shops as well.
