david in sweden Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 ....whilst Adam is out of action ? I'm sure we don't need a poll on this, but there are likely to be some varying ideas. Me ?....the (somewhat improved) Jose Fonte seem the most reasonable choice... but I'd go for Jack Cork !
Avenue Saint Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Fonte or Lambert
the stain Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Why are you going for someone who is not the most reasonable choice? Id pick Gazza as I think it could give him a confidence boost and make a premier player out of him. It's worth a go IMO.
jawillwill Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Is there a rule in football which says you must have a captain? Surely singling someone out for such special treatment only makes the rest of the team feel like they're not as good? I rekon we shouldn't have a captain at all. Or better still, make everyone captain. That's the Southampton way.

Gazza won't make the team now with Kelv back between the sticks, he had a great game back vs Reading personally I am less nervy when Kelv is playing
the stain Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 You definitely cant have everyone as captain, but I'm not sure about having no one as captain.

Are you?

SuperMikey Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Kelv lost the matchday captaincy because we needed a leader on the pitch, not in the goal. Nige said the same. It will be Fonte probably.
Thedelldays Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 I think...in england we look far too much into who is the captain.. makes no difference IMO apart from being able to moan at the ref more
jawillwill Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Alpine Saint should be made captain of SWF.

S-Clarke Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Fonte took it on against Reading, so it's safe to say it will be him. Good choice, a natural leader at the back IMO.

david in sweden Posted 16 December, 2012 Author Share Posted 16 December, 2012 You definitely cant have everyone as captain, but I'm not sure about having no one as captain. According to League rules, the captain (is supposed) to be the only person to speak with the ref. in the event of a dispute or arguement. He is the team's rep. on the field, which is why it was a bit difficult in earlier seasons when KD was honoured with the captaincy, because he couldn't run out of goal every time we needed to ask /speak to the ref. It really needs to be an outfield player.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Since Saints decided that Kelvin Davis wouldn't be the on pitch captain it has been... Hammond captain and Fonte vice captain and now... Lallana captain and Fonte vice captain
Window Cleaner Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Since Saints decided that Kelvin Davis wouldn't be the on pitch captain it has been... Hammond captain and Fonte vice captain and now... Lallana captain and Fonte vice captain perhaps we had a Barca inspired epiphany about a local boy being captain. Either that or Fonte doesn't want the responsability on a permanent basis.

sammysaint Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Davis should be if he starts if gazza is starting again then Fonte, for me we need to reward players for playing well who also show signs of leadership and Fonte and Cork certainly fit that, who ever it is needs to make sure we dont lose vs sunderland, its a game full of good attacking players and poor defenders for prem level, our defenders need to play like they have in the last 6-7 games bar the liverpool game, so giving the captain band to one of them might inspire them to give that little bit more and confidence to take a hold of the game if needed. Rasiak-9- Posted 16 December, 2012 Share Posted 16 December, 2012 Fonte has always done better without the armband. I think he feels the pressure a bit too much. Schneiderlin would be my choice. Experience beyond his years, runs around and leads by example. Confident enough to put his mouth about. Legitimately important player in the starting XI too so not just a leader without decent footballing ability.
