Why would we give out 3,000 more tickets than we had to? Other clubs know well enough that its a bad idea to do so (even most of those who can't fill their large grounds).

3 weeks before kick off Mr Turkish.

Still home games vs Liverpool, Everton, Man City, Chelsea etc to come.

(This is the reverse of what you normally do in these threads isn't it? ;))

It hasn't sold out its pro Cortese propoganda and creative marketing.

FFS forgot to buy one.

But if anyone has any spares please come forth.

Don't worry it hasn't really sold out. There are loads of tickets left. It's just marketing spin so it appears that we are selling out for when we apply for another loan next year.

It is quite interesting (well I think it is anyway, others probably don't) how much disparity there is between the most popular games and the least popular one. This game, Man Utd and Spurs all sold out at least 2 weeks prior to kick off. Yet Fulham (28K), Norwich and Fulham (just over 29K) having significant areas unsold. Its a bit of a guess but against the top sides we could perhaps sell at least 38,000 tickets, which is 10,000 more than the least popular games. I wonder if other clubs our size and bigger experience that sort of disparity.

Genius marketing from Cortese though, wouldn't you agree Turkish?

Just look at the mad scramble for tickets this has created

Exactly. You've got to hand it to Julius Duncan the new director they've brought in, his first action has been to create this sort of demand by clever marketing. His career at SFC seems to have got off to flier this senior manager might last more than 6 months.

Villa are pretty good example, Sheff Wed when they were in the Premier League could fill Hillsboro' (40-odd thousand) for the big ones but half their games would have been under 20K. Leeds would be interesting, if they were up right now I think their gates would be up and down too. Of course they're bigger clubs than us but their lowest gates wouldn't be much different to ours and Wed's case probably considerably worse.

Villa's lowest gate this season is almost as low as ours; 28,692 against Reading. Their highest; 40,538 against Man Utd.

Leeds are in reality what a lot of our self titled intelligent posters think we are. A very big city with only one club and drawing support from large towns around them like Wakefield, Harrogate, York. There are even lots of Leeds fans in towns with clubs like Bradford and Doncaster. They also have a mix of working class support from Leeds itself and wealthier fans from outside. With a bit of investment and success they could get crowds of 50k every week.

Sheff Wed get gates in the 25k region in the champ (and in L 1), v similar to us. Did they really get sub 20k attendances in the Prem last time? Seems unlikely.

No doubt about that, and it looks like they're about to get bought out by some Middle-Eastern consortium so will probably soon be back to being a force - but don't get away from the fact that, despite their size and stature, they still capable of getting some pretty big dips in attendances.

Crowds are down at the moment due to anti Bates feeling, lack of investment and the price, season tickets are more expensive than ours FFS!! Away from home they've sold out every game for years. My in laws are in Harrogate and a lot of the blokes in the local I go in when up there say they won't go back until Bates goes.

Rather surprisingly, Sheff Wed never had an average attendance over 30,000 in any of their Prem seasons from 1992-2000. In fact their highest average was only 28,700. Other seasons saw between 25k and 27K.

Blimey. Think that they'd maintain a similar level of gates to us (plus a bit because of size) if they came up now.

Don't forget this was in an era when Chelsea got less than us in league one 2 years ago as we are often reminded. So no doubt crowds across the country were much lower than now.
