studentsaint Posted 14 December, 2012 Share Posted 14 December, 2012 Some people on here shouldn't waste their time posting, which for some is so regular it suggests a life on the sofa eating Doritos and watching Jeremy Kyle. The idea considers another option. I don't remember Marsden for his blistering pace, but he could cross and had good feet. Also, we played two up top last time so why not get them in the box for deliveries? I personally want Mayuka but that won't happen. People calling for j rod left wing have short memories of the constant moaning of his talents being wasted out of position. The fact is that the guy thought out of the box and its an option, maybe not the best. But the same old predators waiting for an opinion that isn't generic will not let it lie. This Charming Man Posted 14 December, 2012 Share Posted 14 December, 2012 Stick with the 4-3-3 approach - Ramirez into the Lallana role and JWP into the central attacking mid role left by Ramirez switch would be my preferred choice. I'd put Davis into the AMF role, he's done alright when coming off the bench playing there. Reckon it will be Guly on the left though with Ramirez in his usual role. Barry Sanchez Posted 14 December, 2012 Share Posted 14 December, 2012 So with the Adam injury theres been lots of discussion on who should deputise for him. I've seen no mention of Fox. From what Ive seen of him his main strengths are set pieces - crossing, free kicks etc - ideal attributes for a midfielder. He is also a defender so you would hope would track back/cover Shaw? Would rather have Ruel Fox, Sam Fox or fantastic Mr Fox on the wing rather than that tanned nightmare.

But we could all sing 'look like a wotsit' at him, then all laugh hysterically like it's never been done before, give ourselves a round of applause, then launch into a 100mph version of Red and White Barmy Army, getting faster and faster until people physically can't sing and clap any quicker. That would be hilarious. We should maybe consider signing a whole team of gingers then we could chant "come on you wotsits" at them.

That's actually a pretty decent idea, although I think I'd rather we try to get Ramirez and Rodriguez/Mayuka on the pitch at the same time with the pace to exploit Gaston's through balls than stick Fox on purely for slightly better free-kick delivery and giving the ball away more in advanced positions. That Lambert-far post routine is played out now we've somehow managed to work it against Man U, everyone's seen it.
Baldbarbarian Posted 14 December, 2012 Share Posted 14 December, 2012 I would say no to Fox @ Left Mid. Likelyhood is that J-Rod will be put there until Lallana is back.
The9 Posted 14 December, 2012 Share Posted 14 December, 2012 Its not what we would prefer it is what is more likely our manager will use,I doubt using Fox as a LW has even crossed Adkins mind Seeing as he's played Rodriguez at something resembling left back already this season, I'm sure he's considered all the options. Joesaint Posted 14 December, 2012 Share Posted 14 December, 2012 GR on the left, with JWP / RL behind the striker? With JR up front. GR can swith with JP, as well as JR and RL doind the same, the different qualities should make defending difficult. I put JWP in there too as he has shown that his through balls are very good. david in sweden Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 I don't think anyone can argue that Fox hasn't got a great left foot and is capable of putting in some terrific crosses, but he isn't the quickest and despite the fact he is a defender, he can't defend. Wouldn't be against the idea if it happens though. Still hoping that Lala is back sooner rather than later. Many players perform better.... if they have a good " partner " to play alongside... or in this case in front of the defenders ..... Shaw is clearly a better bet at LB, but when I recall the pairing of Marsden and the young Wayne Bridge brought the best out of both of them.- doesn't sound quite so crazy...worth a try - especially in away games. Neither Lallana or Punch really play to Lambert's strengths in the air as both like to drive to the penalty area before fizzing balls in. By contrast, Fox has the accuracy and ability to flight balls in from deeper positions.
Ewell Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 If this guy gets anywhere near the team then we are in big trouble. Whilst he has very good delivery from set pieces he has very little else to his game and he is nowhere near Premier League quality. The sooner we replace him from the squad and let him move on the better. The amount of mistakes he has made and points he has cost us he should be a boo boys favourite rather than the likes of Gully. Chez Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 (edited) If this guy gets anywhere near the team then we are in big trouble. I'm not sure I fully agree, and that's from someone that was slating him after about ten games last season. He does have a few other attributes to go with some nice crosses. He has a lot of quality on the ball. He has a great first touch and the little dummy and come inside thing he does is good. He gets himself out of tight spaces well so he doesn't hoof or give up possession cheaply. What he lacks is pace and because of that he doesn't defend correctly, dropping far too deep so he doesn't get exposed by pace (whilst at the same time giving the opponent all the freedom they need to cross at will). He also has a **** poor work rate, doing the absolute minimum. His choice of pass sometimes leaves a lot to be desire - the incessant use of the long diagonal ball for starters - but certainly no worse than Yoshida, Clyne or Fonte. As cover for Shaw he's OK - never a left midfielder - but he could be so much better with some proper analysis of his game and the right coaching. There are lots of fullbacks without pace that have done OK in the Prem, he needs to emulate them and change his game. Sadly you just know he'll carry on as he is, because he's made his money and he thinks he's made it. Edited 15 December, 2012 by Chez
DrunkenSaint Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 I'd get Lee in there somewhere tbh, gives us more than Rod and we're only playing Rod cause of his ridiculous transfer fee. If it was the other way around Lee would be playing week in week out with Rod playing for the under 21's. 442 also does not work and we play a lot better when we play that 4231 formation so having a left back in the left mid position wont happen, we have players who can play there, it's a whole squad league we need to start using other players other than the 14 we use week in week out. mayuka would also fit in but punch and clyne has a good understanding going on would be a pity to change it if punch was to switch to the left to fit in mayuka on the right. Gazza/Davis Clyne Fonte Yoshi Shaw Cork Morgan Punch/Mayuka Ramirez Lee/Punch Lambo
Saint Charlie Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 Lee is nowhere near the side. He has been poor for the U21s and in the Cup. Jay Rod over Lee any day of the week. Lallana will either be replaced by Gaston, JR or Guly.
