Thedelldays Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 what an amazing year...saints promoted again...so many other great sporting achievements but for me...after all the doom and gloom and the rather stupid negative predictions about it...the Olympics were utterly and truely amazing. some of my greatest days following sport were made in those few weeks..the opening ceremony really caught the imagination of being British.. I was lucky enough to go to the Olympic park and that day is something I will always remember...such an amazing place and such an amazing time..even just watching it on telly.... so proud then that we as a country...despite many difficulties, produced arguably, one of the greatest Olympics ever... I cant help but think that Blatter and co must have been scoffing at the dinners watching how we embraced the whole thing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QL_uG2GSZo any other moments that you will look back on 2012 and think yourself lucky that you were there..? pap Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 Good thread, TDD. It has been a good year for Chez pap. Didn't get to go to the Olympics; bit gutted about it but priorities. Really has been about that. Highlights for me:- Juvenile Unit #1 getting her GCSEs The missus getting a job The North Carolina trip New babies for much loved friends and family Saints promotion (Cov game closest I've come to a religious experience in years) It's an action packed end of the year though, so this list is provisional. bridge too far Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 One child getting married One daughter having a second daughter, other daughter having a second son (within 5 weeks of each other!) Selling house within 24 hours - haven't moved yet though due to the slowest solicitor in the world Saints promotion of course!
View From The Top Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 Good thread Jamie. Going to the Olympics. A truly humbling experience watching Ennis. Going to virtually every game for the New Year until promotion and having a semi religious experience when we stole the points at Millwall. Arguably the best away game I've been to as my nipper enjoyed the same experience as I did. Nipper get poached by a top local football team and a top local cricket club. Nipper winning Player of the Season for his cricket club. Nipper making the district cricket squad. Daughters being generally awesome. Daughter 1 swimming length after length and being nearly 2 whole levels above the average at school. Daughter 2's dancing. Simply melts my heart. Wife being an inspiration by doing degree and post grad' in tandem whilst also working full time as a SENCO and having and idiot like me as a husband and 3 young kids. Having a road to Damascus moment and turning down a senior management position to stay at the chalkface. Getting another Saab. Having all 3 kids crawl in bed for a cuddle every morning. LGTL Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 Doing every Championship game in our promotion season. Going to the Olympics - The stadium was superb and was also lucky enough to see Hockey and Boxing. Going to Euro 2012 - Only managed to get out to Kiev for the 1/4 final but was still a brilliant experience. Good city too. Wimbledon Semi Final - Got extremely lucky in the ballot. Needless to say I had a great summer of sport. Graduating from my PGCE and managing to get a job in a subject where jobs are virtually impossible to get. Brother getting married and being his best man. It's been a good year but always a family death or two to keep everything in perspective Here's to 2013 and Las Vegas in July, counting down to that already! Saint137 Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 Olympics like many others, made particularly special because my cousin won a medal in the rowing Also in the sporting world the crazy time in June/July when we did stuff I never thought I'd see - Wiggo winning the TdF, Murray turning out not to be Scottish, and of course Saints promotion For me though the moment of the year was going to the Paralympics - and being sat about 10 feet from Oscar Pistorious. Just built on the awesome sight on the first Saturday of the Paralympic athletics when Richard Whitehead stormed through to win the 200m. If you've not seen it, seek it out, and marvel at what the human body can do when pushed. Undoubtedly changed my world view forever with regard to disability and sport. the stain Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 Two stand out memories for me: 1. The jubilee. What a great day, seeing the queen on a boat and people stood watching her, in the rain. 2. When lots of people on SWF started saying we should sack Adkins. The idiots. skintsaint Posted 11 December, 2012 Share Posted 11 December, 2012 The Olympics and Jubilee celebrations, kinda made me quite homesick though! G'dad passed away which meant In a wierd way I got to see most of my family. Purchased my first home! (which meant no travelling this year tho ) Saints promoted to the PL England not getting knocked out in the group stages of the Euros.

John Boy Saint Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 (edited) So many people said the Olympics would be $h1t, especially after Bejing. Patriotic bias aside, they were stunning! Add into this the Gamesmakers and the Jubilee celebrations and I think a little bit more Great was put back into Britain. Personally: Built a kitchen. Daughter #1 got into Uni, which meant moving away, and suddenly she grew up. Finally went to America Won my first Golf Trophy Can't think of owt else, I don't know get on an Internet forum and you just freeze!! Oooops back to back Pronotions featuring the Siege of Elland road where one man single handedly repelled the marauding White army of the North. SNSUN Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 1) Cacking myself about the wedding, it went very smoothly in the end. 2) Cacking myself the Olympic Village wouldn't be ready, it went brilliantly in the end. 3) Cacking myself the transport infrastructure wouldn't cope, we did very well in the end. 4) Getting my rostered postion back at work, thus cementing my shifts, after a year of uncertainty. 5) Saints getting promoted straight through the Championship 6) Saints blowing our transfer record twice in the summer 7) Saints' recent form (Projected) having the weekend off before and up to Christmas. (A rarity for LUL employees) 9) Getting burgled for the first time ever. (That's a negative one) 10) Meeting Hatch.
Jack Posted 15 December, 2012 Share Posted 15 December, 2012 Strange year for me, lots of highs and lows and a year I really decided to change some things I wasn't happy with. Some amazing away days. Saints promotion. New job with big pay rise. Got fit and lost a sh*tload of weight. Ended a 9 year relationship and moved out of the house we shared - whilst in the middle of a massive project at work which meant working 70 hour weeks through the whole thing. Easily the most stressful few months of my life. Made myself ill due to the above. Ibiza 2012 - by far my best trip there to date. Last few weeks - living it up like a newly single mid 20's lad should, and loving it. Confirmed job security going into the new year. 2013 is going to be a massive year, I can't wait.
