Carlos Sanchez

Wikipedia does not make promising reading:

Sanchez joined Valenciennes in 2007 on a five-year deal. He made 148 appearances for the club, scoring 8 goals in the league. He left the club in the summer of 2012 when his contract expired, making him a free agent. After long negotiations with Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United he failed to reach an agreement with any club with him demanding ridiculous wages. He has been through 3 agents since July (20/09) when Bolton were trying to contact him many proclaimed to represent him and it took 9 weeks to finally contact and arrange a meeting! He had agreed the wages with Bolton then turned up with his agent who demanded more than double the agreed, plus £2 Million and a free transfer at the end of the season if Bolton don't gain promotion! He rejoined his former club Valenciennes

Perhaps its been doctored, but might not be a simple deal to conclude.

Nixon knew a lot about this guy in the summer, be interesting to see if he's heard anything regarding this one! Think he was also linked to whu?!

Yeah I remember Nixon going on about this guy's move to Bolton that didn't happen in the end. His reporting made it seem like Sanchez and his agent were not easy people to deal with.

Like how they tacked on the bit about arsenal at the bottom, completely unrelated. It's as if they thought 'this article is a bit sh!t so better add any other bit of transfer news to pad it out'

Although that said, Yanga-Mbiwa is a top-notch player. Would be perfect for us.

Don't know a huge amount about Sanchez, but it sounds like he's that "enforcer" type of midfielder - an option in our squad that we're missing really.

Don't know anything about this guy.

But I'd say with Morgan, Cork and Steve D., we def don't need another defensive midfielder.

A few of us that I go with at times have said is one of the things we lack sometimes, especially away or when protecting a lead is a good solid, tough tackiling midfielder to break the play up, like Mulumba did so well for West Brom against us.

Well dealing with Cortese is going to just go swimmingly then!

Morgan averages more tackles per game than any other Premiership player.

But in some games, they can - and do, lack a certain physical presence. So it'll be nice to have a ''physical'' option in the middle, as it gives you a good platform. Mulumbu at WBA, Diame and WHU etc - over the course of the season I think you need a powerful CM to call upon, and it's an area where I feel we've lacked at times.

Chaplow has been cited in this role before. Are people ignoring him or forgetting him?

Personally I feel that if Nigel had brought on Chaplow to disturb the Man U midfield after Scholes came on, we just might have saved (ie held on to) that game.

Chaplow isn't that good. He had a spell of about 7 or 8 games last year where he was unplayable at times, but that's it. He was rubbish for the rest of the season.

Doubt we'll see much of him this year, he's not up to the grade if we're honest.

I still can't believe we missed out on Diame on a free transfer...that was criminal that it looks like we didn't even look at him.

Paul Robinson would be a firm step backwards. He really looked ready for the championship last season.

Morgan and Cork are both good footballing players but lack those crunching tackles and cynical yellows.

I thought he was very good for Blackburn last season nade some excellent saves despite their poor position, he's also on a free and at 33 isn't that old for a keeper. I would lean towards Freidel but it's looking more likely that won't happen.

No, it doesn't, Going to be an interesting meeting with NC if this is true.

Did like this bit from wiki though -

He is nicknamed "La Roca", which means "The Rock", due to his solidity in the game.

I don't really understand why he signed for another club then got loaned back to his old club?

Who knows whether we looked at him? Impossible to say.

One thing is for sure: I don't think Cortese would have been interested in signing a player who wanted a 3.5m release clause in the contract!

I think he signed on a free for a club in Chile and then was loaned straight back to Valenciennes.

Why would a club sing a pleyr and then immediately loan him out again, could understand a youngster but I'm presuming for the Chilean club he would be a key player.

Maybe after his summer contract shenanigans he might be a bit more realistic about his contract demands seeing as he clearly left the french club to earn more money and then ended up back there.

Barry Sanchez turns up on the mongboard, a few days later we are linked with Carlos Sanchez. There have been weaker conspiracy theories....

Could be set up for Ali Dia mark 2! His Wikipedia entry is clearly written by a ****ed off Bolton fan, as the most interesting thing about him during 150 appearances for his current club is that he was a pain in the *rse to deal with when his contract ended...

In three papers, may have actually come from somewhere. Not sure all the negative press around his agent situation is encouraging but the transfer fee seems reasonable and could be an effective player though I have to admit I have only read of and not actually seen him play!

I must have seen him play because he was in VA's side at St Etienne the other week, just don't remember much about him; Think he has cracked ribs or something just now because he didn't play in VA's last game. Might watch VA-PSG on TV tonight.

What's your take on the general quality of the French LEague? Watched a bit of Toulouse v Bastia the other night and even taking the terrible quality of pitch into consideration, there wasn't much class on show.
