Sunderland Build-up Thread

Adkins is clearly getting very fed up with journos in the press conference from today, especially when one asks him a question that he just spent a few minutes answering for someone else.

That was Simon Peach asking the same thing about Sunderland being where they are now?

They all labour the same points. Who cares if Chaplow is fit again, not like he will get anywhere near the team.

Would be interesting to have heard a question on Mayuka and what NA thinks he could give the side, why he hasnt featured much.

It's weird that they insist on asking questions over and over they know they won't get an answer to when, as you say, there are far more interesting topics to bring up.

I'd like to see someone ask him about the switch from zonal to man marking at set pieces and what the "small changes in the way we play" were that Cork talks about in his interview. (Although it seems likely marking style change was one of those things he meant).

----------------Davis

Clyne-----Fonte-----Yoshida-----Shaw

------------Cork-----Morgan

---------------Ramirez

Puncheon------------------Rodriguez

---------------Lambert

Gazzaniga, Hooiveld, Reeves, Guly, Davis, Mayuka, Hoskins

Rodriguez left because we'll need to play 433 and I don't think we have a better option. Hoskins has done well for the U21s and has great drive, so I think he deserves a shot at the first team. The lad has been very patient and has earnt a crack the hard way.

Just for the record my smiley face meant **** all to do with any injury situation, some people do look for something out of nothing (drama queens)

Maybe tell people what it meant so you don't get 'drama queens' trying to work out what you meant...Call me old fashioned...

I can certainly see a case for Guly to start, but personally think it will be same team as finished Reading.

TDD, you seem to have got well on this bandwagon that Guly is the worst player to ever have had a contract and he kills children. Give him a break FFS he's done a decent job every time he's played this season.

not at all....I would rather have the team that started the 2nd half against reading....guly is no way good enough for the prem...like a few other players we have

Southampton had last weekend off because of Chelsea's trip to Japan for the Club World Cup and I imagine they will be lying in wait for Sunderland.

The Black Cats will play on the counter-attack, but they cannot afford to make the same mistake they made in their last two away games at Norwich and Manchester United, when they didn't start playing until they were a couple of goals down and it was too late.

Southampton will definitely test their defence too, even without the injured Adam Lallana.

Saints have been much better of late after a poor start - it is almost as if they have come to terms with the Premier League - but the key to them staying up will be if they can maintain their good home form, particularly in games like this one.

But both sides have got their problems and, looking at them at the moment, you can see why they are both just above the relegation zone. You would imagine they are going to stay down there scrapping too.

Prediction: 1-1

I'd have Guly over Lee anyday.

Especially out wide where he has played before.

There seems to be this bizarre logic that Lee can play well on the left because he is left footed. This is despite him not playing there and also the fact that our wide men tend to play on the opposite side to cut inside.

Very strange.

Lee has been a fish out of water on the left. As usual, certain sections of our fanbase will ignore this and demand to see him out there.

Didn't he play on the left against Leeds? I remember the 5live commentators singling him out for his performance and not for the right reasons.

He did, was terrible, and has also played a couple of tiems without success on the left for the U21s. He is a striker, like Hooiveld is a CB not a LB just because he is left footed.

Guly's best position his in the hole. Which of course is also Ramirez's if they both start one will have to play out of position.

Wide left isn't really out of position for Ramirez. He's played there plenty of times. Obviously he's better in the middle for us as can influence the game more.
