Sunderland Build-up Thread

Winnable, but much depends on their performance/result against Man Utd. After a 3-0 win at Reading, a poor performance against Utd would deflate them. A good performance against them, whatever the result, and their tails will be up. Still, it's exciting times being a Saints fan at present. Lallana is a massive loss, but we have the attacking players to compensate.

5 or 6 points from the next three games would be a good return IMO, 7-9 would be the stuff dreams are made of. At a push, I'd even take 4.

If Bramble plays with Oshea i have no doubt Lambo will win the aerial battle vs these two, and if Rose is out as well there back four will be the worse we have played this season and puncheon and the LM will have a field day, shame Lallana is injured if he was fit i would say this is 3 points purley because of there injuries and are attacking performances recently, but i think were gonna get a draw Sunderland's attack is quality and should be a attack for a top 10 side and our defence needs to be on form to stop them.

CLYNE-----FONTE------MAYA------SHAW

---------------CORK------MORGAN---------

PUNCH----------RAMIREZ-----------GULY

--------------------LAMBERT------------------

Subs: Boruc, Fox, Jos, JWP, Davis, Mayuka, Jay Rod

This for me.

I like the look of this team with the current fit players we have.

2-0 Saints. ( Lambert, Puncheon )

Just read Sunderland have only won 3 out of their last 25 league games..this really needs to be a home win.

DOH!!! I hate stats like that. No doubt they've got a centre forward who hasn't scored this season etc.

At least it isn't no wins in the last 25 away, as that would have been a dead cert away win with some dodgy CF getting a hattrick!!

Obviously the AL situation means that changes will be made, but will the game plan change as well?

Certainly the type of game we should be looking to win, and a trip back to the 3-1 victory scoreline would be nice.

This is a massive pivotal game it will decide wether we can indeed push on or wether we are destined to be sucked into the mire of avoiding the bottom three and nothing else! A win Would send out a clear message to the teams around us anything less than a draw is unacceptable in the situation we are in the table is so tight and we need to beat our closet rivals ie Sunderland, Wigan etc

Having a browse through their forums, they really aren't a happy bunch.

Everyone is **** apparently. They can't defend, their midfield is championship quality, and Fletcher is injured along with Rose (who will probably be back next week).

I think, as a team, they're on the floor. Individually they have quality and can hurt if not managed correctly, but if we play our high intensity game as a TEAM, then our quality should shine through.

Well, me and a few thousand others! Actually it was tongue in cheek as I think HW is a very good, if not the best, ref around. Shame that AL is not playing, HW would be sure to give him a penalty and not book him for 'diving' as per the Swansea game....

We need some speed in the side where Lallana has left a hole, so I would put Lee out there with the option of switching him with Ramirez or putting Ramirez on the left, Lambert in the hole behind J-Rod. If we turn up and play with confidence and high intensity this will be a walk in the park home victory. 2-2 then.

* Put himself in the shop window in the U21 game last night and he's probably the only round peg/round hole we have. All the other options are square pegs.

I would not be averse to seeing Lee in the team actually. Adkins obviously liked him from all the hype he gave him last season. Reminded me of Pardew whacking off about Puncheon - and he was proved right in the end. His injured spell is over and he's started to look good in the development fixtures. Who else do we have to play Left midfield really. And if you can't try him against one of the worst teams in the league... what is the point in having him. Personally I think we will see him on the bench. I wouldn't be totally suprised if Do Prado is CAM with GRam out on the left. And punch-eon on the right. Alternatively, we could go for Mayuka right, punch left and GRam middle. Lots of options. Of course there is also JayRod left... he started to gain some confidence.

Whatever we pick, I am starting to get nervous about this one. Sunderland have picked up the last few games, and are up for this game, they are definetley not underestimating us like some of the others. And lets be honest, reading were ****, qpr were ****, and Newcastle were knackered. We have been looking better than we actually are and this one will be a real test for us. If you think otherwise then i reckon you are in for a shock this weekend!!!

You can see my all round confidence in the result from this post, and the amount I change my mind :~

one of them is a female so no luck there then.

I am outraged by this on behalf of any female contributer who may read this post.

I politely ask that everyone refrains from comments like this so we can ensure that the SFW is the most inclusive and PC forum on the net.

Think he will be touch and go.

The key vs Sunderland is to stop Johnson and McClean out wide and make sure Sessegnon has a poor game. Fletcher just finishes the chances they create.

Rose aside their defence is poor and slow.

With a bit of luck Rose will be out injured again and they'll have to use Colback at LB again, woeful he was last week.
