...is always talked up as being siginificant, team bottom goes down etc. Also we were told we would be relegated and adrift by Christmas unless Adkins was sacked.

Where do you see us being in the league on Christmas day?

Us on 18 points would be great. Can't see QPR breaking double figures by christmas and Reading ideally will draw with Sunderland.

Also having Fulham on Boxing day and Stoke on the 29th is a pretty good pair of fixtures, Fulham are quietly falling apart and Stoke are resilient (and HORRIBLE to watch) both of which we stand a chance to get something from.

14th/15th would be idea for the new year and quite achievable.

If you held any stock to anyone telling you we'd be relegated by Xmas then you're a touch simple, as its mathematically impossible.

I think we'll slip up a bit against Sunderland and it'll be a 1-1 draw, leaving us precariously positioned.

Can two points be the difference between precarious and ok with so many games to play?

YES. but you've omitted to mention that most of the teams you've listed above will have (weather permitting) have played 2 or 3 games in that time... to our ONE. (Sunderland) Not a fair comparison.

Surely it's more logical to compare stats. (if that's what you want to do).... after the New year (half way - games numbers 19 /20).. .and before the FA Cup games / transfer window.

(if Adkins were sacked or not .......no other manager - if appointed) would have more games to manage until then.

I think our position now is precarious, Diggers. I think anyone from 13th place downwards in the league is in a precarious position. Even with as many games as we have yet to play.

Agree, we'll be in and around the relegation places until the very end imo, we just need to always keep within a result or two of those above us.

Xmas does usually prove to be a bit of a transitional period where one team who has struggled pre-xmas starts climbing the league whilst one starts to decline and gets dragged into the relegation fight. Hopfully the former is us. The latter could be someone like Swansea or West Ham.

Agreed, I don't think you can take too much from Xmas positions, except if one or two clubs are a bit marooned. Hopefully QPR will continue to muster a minimal amount of points under Satchel Face, but anything else is up for grabs. The bottom of the Premier League is so, so tight and always has been. I remember in the very early years of the Premier League Oldham staying up by the skin of their teeth by winning their last 3 games of the season.

Like you say; it looks likme we're in this for the duration.

Also, why are those who said we were down still even posting? They didn't say we'd improve, look like staying up and then go down, they said we couldn't compete, weren't up to it and were down in September. So surely they'd have given up...unless it was childish petulant bull****?

Why would they stop posting? :?

Great to see us approaching the end of the year having played 16 games and with 15 points. Back in the relegation it took us till the 16th January and having played 24 games to reach 15 points. What a difference this past month has when one looks at the relegation and chance of survival. Long may it continue. Com'on you RED!!

One good thing from the weekend's results is that we can no longer be bottom at Christmas this season, even if every result goes against us (which I don't think it will).

I'm feeling very optimistic now, even as far as thinking top half might be a possibility by the end of the season.

No doubt I'll be fearing relegation again if we slip up when we should win...

Even at this stage I think a top half finish is way beyond us, much like earlier in the season we're highly likely to be playing catch-up on the teams currently around us, let alone anyone further up the table. Clearly anything's possible, you only have to look at what Norwich have done in the last 6-8 weeks or so, but there's already a group from Norwich upwards who have got a 7-point cushion over us just as we enter a two-month period of very difficult games.

Every game in the Barclays Permier League is a difficult game. It's the hardest league in the World but we have some very good young footballers at this football club with a great amount of togetherness and ambition about ourselves. We'll be looking forwards to winning games of football to get us to where we want to be.

It's as simple as that.

I know that in my head, it's more a case of supporter's syndrome, where a few good results and suddenly anything is possible lol.

(and like I said, a few bad results will send me right back the other way...)
