Gary Hooper

To be honest, I'm pretty sure Hooper has been a club-wide target for ages - just as Jay Rodriguez was. Obviously he worked with Adkins etc, but he's a good player, so there's more reason to be after him. And it's pretty obvious that we don't sign players just on the managers decision, so if the manager does leave I can imagine the same targets stay in place - until the club has higher ambitions obviously.

This is the importance of the committee, it ensures that a club is not lumbered with players that a new manager has no use for etc You only have to look at QPR to see this, three different managers and three different ideas. All three bought players that no other manager would be happy with, it is a disaster.

Ive said before, Ill be happy with Hooper so long as the fee is under 5m

Exactly, I don't think a transfer committee is a bad thing at all - as long as it's fair, i.e you don't get the chairman trampling over everyone to sign who he wants anyway. But I think ours is pretty fair and well thought out, all our targets are pretty well researched you'd have to say, and apart from a few duds (De Ridder/Dickson etc) on the whole our last few years have been pretty fruitful transfer wise (the players we've bought in have improved us anyway).

Mayuka? Tadanari Lee? It's been more good than bad, but there have been a few that haven't really worked out.

Realistically guys...i think Hooper would of been a good signing last year but we are aiming for top 10 finish and i don't think he is the right guy for us.

We need to push the boat and go for someone like Bony or Aubemang (St Etienne)...we definitely need more pace in the last third and i don't think Hooper is the right fit for us

To be honest, with the kind of money being suggested for Hooper I'd rather move for a proven striker in the prem like Darren Bent, I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but you can't argue with his scoring record in the premiership.

Hooper, despite his record in the SPL, is an unknown in the EPL and there's a marked difference in the quality of opposition. I'd of course welcome someone with such a fantastic scoring record, but I don't think it would be an "exciting" signing

Hooper over Bent any day of the week. I'd have Kevin Phillips over Bent, can't stand him. The vast majority of his goals are ones that are put on a plate and your nan could score, he probably scores 1 in 10 one on ones. Donkey. Plus he's one of them that would run to the corner giving it the big one even if one of his team mates had just skinned 5 players and laid it on a plate for him. Horrible player.

I would be underwhelmed if we did sign Hooper this season. I may get shot down in flames but I think Aruna Kone would be a good signing for us.

Agreed. I think he'd be a very good signing for us and he'd also be able to give Fonte his pants back...

I have a mate called Gary Hooper and, despite his own views to the contrary, he's no more than a pub player. Probably good enough for Scottish football though.

Interesting that the prospect of Wanyama joining was causing quite a level of excitement among many, based on nothing other than his Celtic career. But when it comes to a similar age player like Hooper, who has the advantage of being English, the standard of opposition is too rubbish to take him seriously

According to Arry, he actually misses chances that his nan could have scored

Ah, but saying Scottish football was ok actually wouldn't have worked from a humour perspective. Similarly, I haven't got a mate called Victor Wanyama.

Worry not, I spotted the humour, but its a serious point aimed at quite a few people: Scottish football is pants until they like the sound of someone in which case its totally forgotten

I would like to think that our interest in Hooper ended when Adkins left. There is a reason the other clubs interested are Hull, Reading and Forest. Considering the amount Celtic want I think it is too much of a gamble.

19 goals in the SPL and 4 in the CL last season (against crap). Not that impressive really.

I like what I've seen of Wanyama, but he is definitely overpriced.

Never go above £5 million for an SPL player would be my rule. The chance of flop is high.

...from what I've heard the transfer fee wasn't the biggest worry with Wanyama. Basic salary he wanted was obscene apparently.

When will we ever stop trying to get ****ing Celtic players? If they did **** all in Europe with Celtic what are they going to do when we get there? Cortese is losing it.

**** all in Europe by beating Barcelona.

yeah, right. One man team beats Barca, no wonder the Catalan media went nuts

Got to keep up with dismissing the SPL as a tinpot league with no good players and Celtic being good is all down to freak individual performances and nothing to do with sticking 10 men behind the ball and beating barca on the break.

Oh, oh I see, what trophy did they get for that? You also understand that game was a massive fluke? How Barcelona failed to win that game with 66% possesion and had 25 shots to Celtics 3 is amazing, but well done Celtic and its a massive justification for us buying their players.

You are also aware Celtic lost to Inverness and St Mirren?

I didn't say they won it, i responded to you saying they did **** all in Europe, they beat Barcelona and qualified for the last 16.

Oh thats justifys signing him then? They did **** all in Europe, that is what I am saying, they quialified via luck and their home crowd, not through skill.

To use they beat Barcelona to advocate a signing is ****ing simplistic and reckless.

Both did a great job at the level we signed them at. Hell they've also filled in as best as they can when they've been called upon. Not Fox's fault he's not great.

So we sign another player from the level they were playing and see if they will handle it in a higher one?

Belting policy that and one that costs an awful lot more.

Naive.

Both players failed at Celtic, therefore signing Celtic's star player will be a disaster as well..... erm

Scott Brown is their most important player, we are just overpaying for average players (not enough known on Wanyama), Hooiveld and Fox were rejects and as it turns out Celtic are well laughing at us and probably cant wait to do business with us again.

Scott Brown is the captain and talisman but is not their best or most important player by a long way. He is more like their Marden, we are buying or at least might be buying, their Bridge.

I'm currently living with a Celtic fan and can confirm that Scott Brown is far from their most important player. Wanyama is an absloute beast for them and was pretty immense against Barca and the rest of Europe apparently. He's gutted about losing him and even more gutted about losing both him and Hooper in the same season.

Sorry Hopkins housemate can confirm Scott Brown is not the most important player at Celtic, I apologize for this confusion...........................

A lot of reports here this morning that Norwich are close to signing Hooper for 4.5Million , At that he is a absolute gift. Come on NC get your act together Hooper would be a perfect foil for SRL. A similar bid plus a makewieght player such as De Ridder , Chaplow etc would surely bring hooper to St Marys.
