Celtic fans spinning the same yarn "He will never sign for Norwich"

http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/showthread.php?t=85997&page=162

Winding up a couple of Celtic fans at work who are convinced that Liverpool, Spurs and even Arsenal would buy him "If he was availible"

Will LOL if he signs for Norwich - funnier if he signed for us as we are a club on par with "St Mirren/Motherwell" according to two Celtic fans I work with

BUT would you swop him for SRL plus £4-£5M say?

SRL can get to play in the CL - surely he deserves that and is a perfect replacement for Celtic if they lose Hooper. Everyone happy, SRL gets a champions league experience, a scottish champions medal or two no doubt and adored by millions of Celtic fans worldwide - a nice final chapter to his career, whilst we get Hooper and let him loose on the EPL! If we lost Rickie to anyone I wouldnt mind it being Celtic. He deserves some winners medals.

I can see Norwich offering Holt to Celtic in the same vein...

Funny reading that, quite up themselves based on the Champions league, the stuff about the SPL being 'underated' is funny especially with the loss of Rangers.

I particularly like the quote about him (hooper) putting in a good showing against Juventus will be better for him than playing Premier Legaue football every week. One game against quality opposition and the rest of the time against championship level at best teams or pplaying lots of games against the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, etc. Hmmmn?

Think he'd be a steady prem striker, not convinced he's at the level we're aiming to be though.

This, as I said before though I reckon he has the ability to surprise and be a v good player in the prem. It all depends who has been lined up and whether it is a better option than a Hooper risk.

FWIW with a TR in and his contract up next year he is probably available for between 5-7 mil.

I see him going to someone like Hull, Stoke or even WHU and being v good.

I wonder how often he kicks himself for not joining us when he had the chance before?!

I think he would be a solid lower-table Prem striker, but I don't think he's the sort we are aiming for. We seem to be aiming for the next level of quality above us, to improve any position we buy for. I'm not sure Hooper is good enough for that.

Has he left Celtic yet?

A part of me would love him run it down another year up there and leave on a free, Celtic need taking down a peg on the spl is any good front really... (Though sadly it does screw over scunny for 20% sell on). They should have taken the money we offered as his value is plummeting now

No evidence that SFC have any interest, just the Express re-running out-of-date information to bulk up the story of his transfer request. Looks a good player for Hull or Reading who could help them in their fight for relegation.

I don't think he fits our profile, he is not a SRL clone - more of a billy sharp type player as I see it. And he may score for fun with Celtic but i reckon if you put Mayuka in that Celtic team and made him the main man he'd score more....

Probably not kicking himself at all really. It may be the SPL but he plays in front of bigger home crowds, plays in the Champions League and wins titles.

But then again if he scored goals in the PL, he probably would've been called up by England by now.

What do you base that upon exactly?

Hi Chris, I base the assertion that Mayuka would score as many as Hooper as the main man in that Celtic team upon my opinion, exactly. Feel free to disagree with that opinion, its what the forum for.

He could do that for 10 years, and no-one would have any clue if he was good or not. Could be a Larsson, could be a Kris Boyd.

Yep, Marco Negri is a prime example, 32 in 30 games for Rangers then nothing (although he had some injuries).

They are a massive club hampered by the league they play in.

Personally I would find it funny if one of their leading men left to play for someone they felt beneath them..... which is effectively anyone outside of the european places. I'm sure I saw Hull linked with Hooper somewhere too.

Yea he loves it so much that he might move to Hull or Reading rather than stay

Can understand why he's keen to move back to England, must be pretty frustrating for the guy seeing the paucity in attack for England and still not getting a sniff.

He's a good age, has champs league experience, is hungry for international recognition and can score goals, esp if we could outdo ourselves and sign players like Ever Banega to supply the ammo.

Paired up front with J-Rod and supported by Ricky in a Teddy Sherringham type role he'd score a good haul in the prem IMO.

Plus he's British which adds to cohesion.

He'd be a good signing and I'd imagine he'd be quite interested if we were to make overtures.

He will not move to a championship club. He would move to a reasonable prem club (meaning one that does not have a very high chance of going down, so that rules out Hull). Plus, ideally, he would move to London or south, as he is from Essex originally

I was asking how you arrived at that opinion? Aside from being completely different players (Mayuka could never be considered the "main man" at Celtic purely down to his playing style alone) you can't have seen anything of Mayuka to suggest he could cut it at any level, let alone score 30+ goals a season.

I have no idea why we're still discussing Hooper now Adkins is not our manager any more, the only reason the link was there in the first place was because Adkins managed him at Glanford Park.

He were bidding fairly big money for him not too long ago. As our transfers are committee based, I'm sure our interest is/was there regardless.

Not sure there's the will to pursue that with the relevant manager no longer part of that committee, somewhat undermines the confidence in being able to develop the player as you'd hope.

I'm not so sure I agree, we signed Forren with no manager input to the committee and look how MP has worked wonders with him......

I wonder if we are still interested in him. Pretty sure we are after a striker.

FWIW I think he would be a good option at a good price (good age too).

He did well in the Champions league and his allround game is pretty strong from what I have heard. Someone is going to take a punt in the BPL.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure Hooper has been a club-wide target for ages - just as Jay Rodriguez was. Obviously he worked with Adkins etc, but he's a good player, so there's more reason to be after him. And it's pretty obvious that we don't sign players just on the managers decision, so if the manager does leave I can imagine the same targets stay in place - until the club has higher ambitions obviously.
