Saint Garrett Posted 9 December, 2012 Posted 9 December, 2012 Can't see anything in this to be honest, we got J-Rod instead who's done OK since he's joined and has a big future.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 9 December, 2012 Posted 9 December, 2012 Lazy journalism, doubt we're still after him and don't know why he'd come here at the moment.
Viking Warrior Posted 9 December, 2012 Posted 9 December, 2012 No chance while Celtic are in champions league
Saint J 77 Posted 9 December, 2012 Posted 9 December, 2012 I think I would rather we recalled Billy Sharp, Gary Hooper looks a little over weight in that photograph.
Restark19 Posted 9 December, 2012 Posted 9 December, 2012 That is a really awful article if ever i've seen one. Poor journalism. Would definitely rather bring Billy back tbh, especially as Celtic will want at least what we paid for JRod for Hooper
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 December, 2012 Posted 9 December, 2012 Sell Sharp for 5 mil, buy a CB, we dont really need hooper, we play ine up front, Lambert and J Rod are good enough imo. Though I do rate hooper, you cant judge too strongly due to the opposition he plays against
Saint Matty 76 Posted 9 December, 2012 Author Posted 9 December, 2012 Pretty sure Adkins bought Hooper for £175,000 and sold him to Celtic for £2.4m as well? Really poor article.
Sour Mash Posted 9 December, 2012 Posted 9 December, 2012 Sell Sharp for 5 mil, buy a CB, we dont really need hooper, we play ine up front, Lambert and J Rod are good enough imo. Though I do rate hooper, you cant judge too strongly due to the opposition he plays against No-one is going to pay £5m for Sharp.
Olallana Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 No-one is going to pay £5m for Sharp. A lot of people on this board perhaps would?
Delboy Dave Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 The bloke ain't interested in Saints so why should we be? We have got enough strikers
Smirking_Saint Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 No-one is going to pay £5m for Sharp. Long term contract, we bought him for what 2.5 ? Banging them in for forest, wouldnt surprise me
Sour Mash Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 He's not banging them in for Forest. We won't get £5m for him.
david in sweden Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 He's not banging them in for Forest. We won't get £5m for him. ....maybe not £5 million, but a goodly sum and with a contract clause for a bit more ....." in the event of promotion to Prem.".-
Dr. Kucho Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 Leave Hooper, go for Celtic's goalkeeper Fraser Forster instead.
ART Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 I think I would rather we recalled Billy Sharp, Gary Hooper looks a little over weight in that photograph. What do you expect for a guy who's 6ft 7'? Twiggy?
Micky Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 Oh no, not again. This forum got royally flucked by the Celtic fans last time, and they were right. Whats changed that he would want to be here now?
Window Cleaner Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 Just what we need, aother 6/7 million £ wasted on a theoretical replacement for Lambert. You can't drop Lambert, he'll throw a wobbly again or if he doesn't the fans will and he's very rarely injured. Our monies will be far better spent on defensive players and a top class keeper, only thing that needs fixing, the rest ain't broke. If we'd had a real keeper from day 1 we'd be top half by now, without JRod or Hooper.
sotonist Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 What do you expect for a guy who's 6ft 7'? Twiggy? where this come from? anyway he's not pulled up any trees domestically this season and Billy is on the same games per goal ratio despite a slow start. I dare say Billy would probably have scored against Barcelona where Gary didn't.
Colbury Posted 10 December, 2012 Posted 10 December, 2012 Leave Hooper, go for Celtic's goalkeeper Fraser Forster instead. This.
david in sweden Posted 11 December, 2012 Posted 11 December, 2012 can't see Celtic letting either of them go, now that they are in the last 16 of CL......even if they flop, it'll be April before they are out of the reckoning...and if they do well.... these two will be "un-buyable "
Danbert Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 Sounds like they want to flog Hooper for as much as they can get... link to Telegraph story
sammysaint Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 No thanks Hooper is not better then Sharp, i would have Billy Sharp back if Nigel wants attacking options and i would use the money to sign another winger if were going for attacking players.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 No thanks Hooper is not better then Sharp, i would have Billy Sharp back if Nigel wants attacking options and i would use the money to sign another winger if were going for attacking players. Dont think we need another striker but Hooper is miles better than Sharp, hence why we wanted him instead of Sharp last January.
Bucks Saint Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 Dont think we need another striker but Hooper is miles better than Sharp, hence why we wanted him instead of Sharp last January. this
Smirking_Saint Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 Dont think we need another striker but Hooper is miles better than Sharp, hence why we wanted him instead of Sharp last January. Exactly this, yes Sharp is a very good poacher, but that is the sum total of his game TBH he has nothing else. Not only that but he doesnt fit our system.
The9 Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 Here we go again? http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-transfer-news-celtics-gary-1482691?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Surely the laziest of lazy rumours - he won't be leaving while Celtic are still in the European Cup.
The9 Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 Exactly this, yes Sharp is a very good poacher, but that is the sum total of his game TBH he has nothing else. Not only that but he doesnt fit our system. Well, he did make hundreds of excellent off-the-ball runs to create space for Lambert, but other than that... Congrats to Billy and Jade on the birth of Leo btw, they deserve a bit of luck after what happened with Luey.
The9 Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 Whlst we're at it, can someone draw up a list of all the players under 30 who are playing above mid-table Championship level that Adkins has managed, just so we can automatically discount them whenever they appear in the press ? Actually, didn't I create a scale for rumour verification ?
trousers Posted 18 December, 2012 Posted 18 December, 2012 Graeme Bailey @GraemeBailey Sky Sports understands that Italian giants Juventus have made checks on Celtic star Gary Hooper. http://bit.ly/12mUA3l
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Apparently Hooper is after a new contract so I would put this down to agent talk...
Saint Garrett Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Apparently Hooper is after a new contract so I would put this down to agent talk... 'Doing a Rooney' no doubt... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4704566/Gary-Hooper-eyes-Premier-League-switch.html
Professor Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Lambert Rodriguez Lee Mayuka Sharp (on loan) Guly Goals For 22 (better than 9 other Prem teams) Goals against 32 (Worse than all bar the bottom team, Reading) Where do the press get these stories from?
Window Cleaner Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Lambert Rodriguez Lee Mayuka Sharp (on loan) Guly Goals For 22 (better than 9 other Prem teams) Goals against 32 (Worse than all bar the bottom team, Reading) Where do the press get these stories from? now count up how many of those 22 goals have been scored by the players you list. 7 out of 22 is it including 1 penalty which probably could have been scored by any player on our books. Therein lies the problem. Not enough at the sharp end.

Window Cleaner Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Make your mind up? I am advocating getting more out of what we have already, if we can't do that then we need to sell ineffective players before wasting more on replacements. Well I think that's what I mean anyway.
DrunkenSaint Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Got Lee coming back no need or room for Hooper.
Thedelldays Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Got Lee coming back no need or room for Hooper. you have to be joking...hooper is very very good
Appy Posted 19 December, 2012 Posted 19 December, 2012 Got Lee coming back no need or room for Hooper. Seriously?
Pilchards Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 I'm just surprised that Norwich are discussing personal terms with him this morning as he would be a cracking player for us. The sort that could play off Jay Rod next season as I can't see Lambert here after the summer.

The sort that could play off Jay Rod next season as I can't see Lambert here after the summer. How do you know that?

The sort that could play off Jay Rod next season as I can't see Lambert here after the summer. Maybe my english is too bad........ But, are we changing our playing system next year and playing with two strikers?? Yes we have done it this year but that has been for a few games and not our normal way of setting the team up....
Saint Charlie Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 We need players to create chances for the strikers we already have.
Doctoroncall Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 How do you know that? one of the Nick's stated it was on the Radio (although no station mentioned).
trousers Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 @BroadcastMoose: Norwich /Celtic fans - I said today a deal was close - not happening today - need to be a bit patient
Bakovnetski Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/130111/norwich-closing-deal-celtic-striker-189006
skintsaint Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 that will **** the sweaties off....Norwich the giants of English football taking one of their better players.
Turkish Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 you have to be joking...hooper is very very good anyone can score goals in the Scottish league. Celtic are the same standard as a L1 team great mongboard quotes from the past number 2354
