Gay Marriage

I don't see any contradiction between what I have said. Clearly, I have stated in this thread that some Christians are quite welcoming of homosexuality and others are not. I have made it quite clear that I disagree with the latter group, and it is those who I said should move with the times. There is no contradiction there.

As for the rest of your point(re: why would a Christian want to get married in a church?), I believe it has already been answered by many people on this thread and other threads(iirc) multiple times. I think you either need to come up with a counterargument to what people are saying in reply to your point or move on to something else.

Why should people have to compromise their faith to pander to what you believe. A tolerant society respects all opinions. You have also not explored why the Church as a rule fundementally opposes the homosexual lifestyle and are undermining people's right to think differently. Do you think that is right?

i bet you dont hear a peep from the muslim community...I bet there is not even a discussion about it

I'm looking forward to hearing what Andy would tell an Imam at a mosque what he should do if two gay Muslims want him to bless their mosque wedding. See the post about it a few up.

How long until the first legal case when a gay wants to be married in a church that doesn't approve of it. Then the church is accused of discrimation......

The Government says that by specifically excluding the church from this legislation, this scenario cannot happen. Presumably as the Church has no option of 'in' or 'out' it cannot discriminate. ( Then again - politician's promises....).

Turkish, why are you still debating with people on this thread? Can't you except (sic) their views even if they are different to yours?

Some people don't seem to be able to *accept* that for gays to have the choice and rights to marry where they want someone else's choices and rights may have to be compromised. How is this fair?

I was also interested to see aintforever label Muslims bigots for having a different view point to his. Interesting comment wasn't it.

errr, that's life isn't it? I'm not sure how gays getting married in a church that was happy to marry gays compromises the rights and choices of those against Gay marriage. You could just as easily invert all of your arguments: why, if you are against gay marriage, would you want to belong to a church that accepted gay marriage? Is it fair that the rights and choices of gays have to be compromised because of the views of others?

I think this debate has gone nowhere for the last few pages. Can we agree on the following:

1. Gays should have the right to be "married" in the same way as hetero couples in civil ceremonies (registry offices, hotels etc)? My view - Yes.

2. Should religious institutions that want to offer gay marriages be allowed to do so? My view - Yes

3. Should religious institutions be forced by law to offer gay marriages? My view - No

I think if someone were to say "ALL muslims are bigots" then that in its self would be bigotted. If someone were to say "some Muslims" are bigotted then that would be fair comment wouldn't it?

Basically it all boils down to which 'right' you feel is more important: the right to equality; or the right of religious groups to preach inequality.

How dare those Westminster-types think they can try to pass legislation to prevent the intolerance's of unevinced deities. Seriously, where do they get off with all their secular undivine powers? Cough.
