Olallana Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Is Rickie too strong for his own good and is that why defenders are allowed to climb on his back without him getting any freekicks? Compare with, for example, Andy Carroll and Jason Roberts that is in the same weightclass. They get a lot of easy freekicks that Rickie almost never gets. Should he be more cynical and go down to his knees like Carroll or shout and wave his arms like Roberts when they´re climbing all over him? pele Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Agreed Barnard used to go down like a sack of spuds everytime and he used to get a lot of free kicks!
benjii Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Yep, Lambert has never learnt how to play the ref.
ericofarabia Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 But that strength has helped him carry our team from League1 to The Prem!! As much as I wish refs would look after him a bit more protection and give him his fair amount of free kicks, I'd hate for him to go down the poncy Andy Carroll or whinging Roberts route. Also worth giving him a huge round of applause for his passing game, showing that he isn't just a human battering ram. His weighted pass to put Clyne on the overlap for Punchy's goal y'day was simply exsquisite.
St Mikie Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Seeing him yesterday he also looks like he has trimmed up a bit and shed a bit of timber!

Saint Garrett Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 There was a few times where he dropped off a bit yesterday, and pretty much every time found his man. His technical ability is superb.

Chez Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 The Ref wised up pretty quickly to Roberts' pathetic attempts to cheat. Shame the one at West Ham didn't do the same with Carroll. Lets not encorage our own big man to cheat

A less strong player gets those freekicks cause he cant stand up, is that fair to the stronger one? Unfortunately referees seems to never understand players strength and therefore dont make the fair decisions....

Graffito Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Respect to Lambert for not going down. We're generally a very honest side all round which is credit to Adkins and the players.
Colbury Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Anyone else notice reading doubling up on him every time a ball was hung up to him in the air - still managed to win more headers than he lost.

To be fair to Reading, especially in the second half that's the most I've seen Rickie beaten in the air by the opposition defence. Like you say they were doubling up on him (and he still won his fair share), but I thought they contained him well. His touch and awareness really are first class though when he drops off; exemplified by his nutmeg pass to set the move for the goal on the way.
