Les Reed told a friend of a friend that they have identified four. LB, CB, CM and a defender.
Think we'll only bring in one or two new players absolute max in January.

A defender as well as a CB and LB... what roles do the CB and LB play? ;)

If true, it's good to hear it from the horses mouth, so to speak.

I took it to mean an all round defender that could play in any of the back four positions.

A CB, a defensive midfielder to challenge Morgan & Cork and an experienced GK if better than Boruc or Davis, in that order.

I really think our recent improvement is down to having 2 proper DM's in place and using the PL 4-2-3-1 formation. Some have mentioned that JWP can play the DM role, but I'm not so sure yet. For me there is no obvious option if our 2 current starters get injured/suspended and they will improve if additional competition..

I honestly don't see a need to add to Lambert, Jay Rod, Mayuka, Lallana, Lee, Puncheon, Gaston, Guly & Davis for the 4 attacking positions. Obviously if our first team players get injured, we are weaker, but the quality of the reserves in that group is decent.

Why do people want to sign a keeper? We've got 3 that are perfectly capable of doing that job without us having to go out and invest time and money that could be better spent improving other areas of the team.

CB, LB and a wide midfielder for me. Caldwell, Olsson and Pennant?

You are joking? How many points have we lost this season that can be directly attributed to keeper error? Can't be bothered to go back and look, but I reckon maybe 5 or 6? Those points are precious, precious I tell you!

In the 'window' we need to sell as much as buy, having a load of staff with no hope of playing is not good for anybody, or for the bank balance

A lot of them are already out on loan, Seaborne, Martin, Sharp, Hammond etc. Getting rid of them may need to wait until the summer.

Do we have several attacking options? If SRL was out longterm (god forbid) we'd have J Rod, Guly and Mayuka.

NA does not seem to rate Mayuka, Guly has zero goals in last 28 and J Rod has not yet found his feet.

You said we could only have ONE signing so I looked at where we are most exposed and that's CB. In all the other positions we can find someone to fill the spot but at CB we have Jos and that's it basically. As I said I'd like 3.

Hmmmmmmmm. Most ridiculous point of view of the year? You are entitled to your own view of course. This goes without saying.

Can't say I'm over-enthusaistic about any of our goalies....and although I agree with another CB and even extra defensive cover......and I can't think that Pennant would be such a good choice .

If it's the same fella' I know about he's a walking time-bomb.. As I recall, his antics made Puncheon seem like a Sunday school teacher.

Well seeing as Boruc seems to have been cast aside as Davis got the nod the other day, no.1 priority for me would be a keeper -

One of -

Freidel

Given

Robinson

Would fit the bill and wouldn't cost much up front.

We also need a better CB to challenge for a first team place, a defensive midfielder to challenge for place against Morgan/Cork, and another wide midfielder such as Ince, Phillips, Scott Sinclair, maybe that Will Hughes guy from Derby.

I think the centre back will be the toughtest one.

Doubt we can afford another left back that will be better than what Shaw has shown and Fox is a good enough back up.

reckon we might be able to get sinclair on loan until the end of the season. Do the like look of Hughes though

there will be no chance of getting sinclair on loan..why on earth would man city loan him to us....

lescott is out of favor with Mancini, maybe moneybags city will loan him to us while covering 50% of his wages? my Christmas wish...

I thought the same, we should definitely be enquiring.

Why wouldn't they? It's not like he's a massive part of their squad.

but he i a part of their squad...makes the bench and will no doubt feature at times this season.....

also, who will pay his £75k a week or what ever it is....?

He will only go where he will be played as a striker. Wouldn't happen here.

Really depends whether Punch is given (or wants) a new contract. 4-4-3 would suit Theo well as he would be one of three strikers who moves wide to cover the defenders when not in possession of the ball. He would have that attacking role yet we would still have the benefit of his pace and his crossing. 12 months ago I would have laughed at the suggestion of him coming back but it is the sort of deal Cortese would put a lot of effort into securing. But as I said, it really depends on what Puncheon's ambitions are for next season. If he has matured as it seems then I can't imagine he would want to risk that good work by starting fresh somewhere else. He is good mates with Clyne on and off the pitch and he appears settled an happy. What is there to consider really?

All three of our keepers our currently championship level at best, boruc has played at a higher level but is nowhere near the fitness or skill level he was at and has a rumoured bad attitude which leaves us with two keepers that can neither communicate with their defence, deal with crosses, or get down to shots quick enough. We do have a goalkeeping problem people are in denial

Boruc looked as though he had lost a lot of weight, viewed at the warm up before the game on Sat from a distance. Anybody better placed?

could we not have loaned out Boruc for a month to some awful League 2 side to get him a few matches on the counter. I mean there was about a month where we had no use for him so it might have been put to better use.

Butland has conceded 33 in 20 games and made a few mistakes

All keepers seem to be struggling this year...... Loads of goals being scored. Even the very best have off days

Or butland is just not ready and not worth the hype maybe? From what I have seen he is a forecast in the making... okay not quite that bad, but he clearly isn't going to cut it. That has been obvious since the olympics.

Agreed it would have made sense although wether he'd have agreed to go to league 2 is another matter. Adkins obviously deems the bottle throwing incident serious as he'd been nowhere nr the first team or bench for that matter he seems seriously out of favour

Surprised people can't see that Davis is always in the 18 squad. I don't think it's a case of Boruc being 'nowhere near' I think its more of what Davis brings to the dressing room as club captain.

If Gazza is no1, then Davis is on the bench.

If Boruc is in goal, then Davis is on the bench.

When Davis has played either of Gazza or Boruc have been on the bench.

When Gazza got injured Davis replaced him, if Boruc was going to play then it would have been in that game.
